Book Modeling and Simulation in Engineering

Download or read book Modeling and Simulation in Engineering written by Catalin Alexandru and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an open platform to establish and share knowledge developed by scholars, scientists, and engineers from all over the world, about various applications of the modeling and simulation in the design process of products, in various engineering fields. The book consists of 12 chapters arranged in two sections (3D Modeling and Virtual Prototyping), reflecting the multidimensionality of applications related to modeling and simulation. Some of the most recent modeling and simulation techniques, as well as some of the most accurate and sophisticated software in treating complex systems, are applied. All the original contributions in this book are jointed by the basic principle of a successful modeling and simulation process: as complex as necessary, and as simple as possible. The idea is to manipulate the simplifying assumptions in a way that reduces the complexity of the model (in order to make a real-time simulation), but without altering the precision of the results.

Book Study of Data Sources and Processing for Radar Land Mass Simulation

Download or read book Study of Data Sources and Processing for Radar Land Mass Simulation written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To generate input data with a 50-foot resolution and fifteen shades of gray for advanced high-resolution digital radar simulators, this research examined and defined data sources and processing techniques. Limited to the Continental United States and to unclassified information, the data sources included all known aerial mapping imagery and topographic maps. All existing image processing techniques and devices were examined to define their operating principles. This review led to the conclusion that adequate geometric information for radar simulation data could be extracted from the current data sources and that existing processing capabilities could be combined into a feasible automatic system. In related work, non-parametric three-dimensional resections were calculated on a digital computer, and mathematical concepts were developed to give a computer system the capability of interpreting the physical characteristics in photos by using cues as done by a trained photo interpreter. Book 3D Recording and Interpretation for Maritime Archaeology

Download or read book 3D Recording and Interpretation for Maritime Archaeology written by John K. McCarthy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access peer-reviewed volume was inspired by the UNESCO UNITWIN Network for Underwater Archaeology International Workshop held at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia in November 2016. Content is based on, but not limited to, the work presented at the workshop which was dedicated to 3D recording and interpretation for maritime archaeology. The volume consists of contributions from leading international experts as well as up-and-coming early career researchers from around the globe. The content of the book includes recording and analysis of maritime archaeology through emerging technologies, including both practical and theoretical contributions. Topics include photogrammetric recording, laser scanning, marine geophysical 3D survey techniques, virtual reality, 3D modelling and reconstruction, data integration and Geographic Information Systems. The principal incentive for this publication is the ongoing rapid shift in the methodologies of maritime archaeology within recent years and a marked increase in the use of 3D and digital approaches. This convergence of digital technologies such as underwater photography and photogrammetry, 3D sonar, 3D virtual reality, and 3D printing has highlighted a pressing need for these new methodologies to be considered together, both in terms of defining the state-of-the-art and for consideration of future directions. As a scholarly publication, the audience for the book includes students and researchers, as well as professionals working in various aspects of archaeology, heritage management, education, museums, and public policy. It will be of special interest to those working in the field of coastal cultural resource management and underwater archaeology but will also be of broader interest to anyone interested in archaeology and to those in other disciplines who are now engaging with 3D recording and visualization.

Download or read book Environmental Simulation written by R.W. Marans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended to provide an overview and scholarly analysis of state-of-the-art developments within the field of environmental simulation research. Environmental simulation involves the presentation of scale model previews, full-scale mock-ups, and computer images of planned environments and activities taking place within them to designers and to prospective users of those settings. Environmental simulations are under taken for many purposes, including (1) the training of environmental de sign students and professionals, (2) the assessment of people's environ mental preferences, and (3) the incorporation of observers' assessments of simulated settings into the planning, design, and renovation of actual envi ronments to maximize the degree of fit between occupants' needs and the arrangement of their physical surroundings. Environmental simulation research has expanded rapidly during the past two decades as the result of increasing collaboration between behav ioral and social scientists, environmental designers, and professional plan ners. During this period, alternative conceptual and methodological ap proaches to environmental simulation have emerged, and numerous programs of simulation research have been initiated worldwide. To date, however, no attempt has been made to present a comprehensive review and assessment of these research developments and an analysis of their implications for design and public policy. Accordingly, the major objectives of this volume are to provide an overview of key conceptual and meth odological advances within the field of environmental simulation research and to place these diverse developments within a broader scientific and public policy context.

Book Simulation and Modeling of Systems of Systems

Download or read book Simulation and Modeling of Systems of Systems written by Pascal Cantot and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems engineering is the design of a complex interconnection of many elements (a system) to maximize a specific measure of system performance. It consists of two parts: modeling, in which each element of the system and its performance criteria are described; and optimization in which adjustable elements are tailored to allow peak performance. Systems engineering is applied to vast numbers of problems in industry and the military. An example of systems engineering at work is the control of the timing of thousands of city traffic lights to maximize traffic flow. The complex and intricate field of electronics and computers is perfectly suited for systems engineering analysis and in turn, advances in communications and computer technology have made more advanced systems engineering problems solvable. Thus, the two areas fed off of one another. This book is a basic introduction to the use of models and methods in the engineering design of systems. It is aimed at students as well as practicing engineers. The concept of the "systems of systems" is discussed extensively, after a critical comparison of the different definitions and a range of various practical illustrations. It also provides key answers as to what a system of systems is and how its complexity can be mastered.
