Book excerpt: The objectives of this study are: to demonstrate that a collection of proprietary techniques constitute an adequate basis for digital beam forming in a phased-array radar; To demonstrate that these techniques can be approximated accurately by digital simulation; To define a vocabulary to facilitate communication between radar designers and computer programmers; To demonstrate adaptive behavior of a phased-array radar by digital simulation. The first and third objectives were accomplished and are described in the body of this first report. The second and fourth objectives were not accomplished and the reasons for this are discussed. Book ADAPTIVE PHASED ARRAY RADAR

Download or read book ADAPTIVE PHASED ARRAY RADAR written by Theodore Mairson and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the results of a 12-month study program to investigate the design of an adaptive phased-arry radar (APAR) using digital techniques. The studies have been aimed at defining the problems which must be solved in developing APAR, and have produced a number of fundamental results. In particular, a straightforward mathematical model has been formulated to describe the conceptual framework of an adaptive phased-array radar in unambiguous fashion. It is concluded that a digital approach to APAR is economical and effective. It is recommended that the study be continued and that the continuation should include a coordinated demonstration and simulation. (Author).

Book Enhanced Capabilities of Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation

Download or read book Enhanced Capabilities of Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MITRE has enhanced the capabilities of the Advanced Airborne Radar Simulation, a flexible end-to-end steady-state simulation that can be used to evaluate the critical issues affecting the performance of advanced airborne radars that use adaptive antenna techniques, i.e., space-time processing (STP), for both jamming and clutter suppression. For a large phased-array antenna, the limitations of a practical implementation of optimal STP will generally require suboptimal adaptive array architectures, such as element space, beam space, and subarrays. The simulation was modified to augment these suboptimal architectures with spatial degrees of freedom in elevation. The received signal models, i.e., target, jamming, and clutter, were modified to include the effects of near-field scattering using a multiple point scatterer model.

Book Phased Array Radar Data Processing Using Adaptive Displaced Phase Centre Antenna Principle

Download or read book Phased Array Radar Data Processing Using Adaptive Displaced Phase Centre Antenna Principle written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employing the autoregressive (AR) technique and the principle of displaced phase centre antenna (DPCA) we construct an optimum adaptive DPCA processor for moving target detection from airborne phased arrary radar data collected under non- DPCA conditions. It is fundamentally different from the existing adaptive DPCA which is not optimum. The number of range samples it needs to estimate its parameters is only approximately twice the number of antenna elements, significantly smaller than the number required by the conventional space-time adaptive processing (STAP) and other algorithms. Computationally it only requires 5-10% cost of STAP. The processor is tested using both the simulated and genuine airborne phased array radar data. With ample samples, its performance approaches optimum. In the case of reduced samples, it considerably outperforms STAP and others examined.

Book Digital Phased Array Architectures for Radar and Communications Based on Off the Shelf Wireless Technologies

Download or read book Digital Phased Array Architectures for Radar and Communications Based on Off the Shelf Wireless Technologies written by Chin S. Ong and published by . This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is a continuation of the design and development of a three-dimensional 2.4 GHz digital phased array radar antenna. A commercial off- the-shelf quadrature modulator and demodulator were used as phase shifters in the digital transmit and receive arrays. The phase response characteristic of the demodulator was measured and the results show that the phase difference between the received phase and transmit phase is small. In order to increase the bandwidth of the phased array, a method of time-varying phase weights for linear frequency modulated signal was investigated. Using time-varying phase weights on transmit and receive give the best performance, but require the range information of the target. It is more practical to use time-varying phase weights on only one side (transmit or receive but not both), and constant phase weights on the other side. The simulation results showed that by using time- varying phase weights, the matched filter loss is not as severe as it is when using the conventional fixed weights technique. It is also found that this method is only effective for small scan angles when the time-bandwidth product is large. The approach to implement time-varying phase weights on transmit using commercial components such as direct digital synthesizer and quadrature modulator is discussed.
