They are increasingly developed and installed in cars and are beginning to appear in twowheelers. It is clear that these systems have proven efficient, although there is no information about their actual operation by current users. The authors of this book present a state of the art on safety systems and assistance to driving and their two-wheeled counterparts. The main components constituting a driving simulator are described, followed by a classification of robotic architectures. Then, a literature review on driving simulators and two-wheeled vehicles is presented. The aim of the book is to point out the differences of perspectives between motor vehicles and motorcycles to identify relevant indicators to help in choosing the mechanical architecture of the motorcycle simulator and appropriate controls. VI The traditional International Conference jointly promoted by ASIMUTH - Applied Simulation Technology and some other members of the Society of Computer Simulaton created an interest to publish new projects including their results. A large number of contributed papers has been strictly examined and selected by the editorial commitee to guarantee a high international technical standard.

In early 1993 the Eurographics Association decided to establish a working group on Virtual Environments with the aim to communicate advances in this fascinating area on a scientific and technical level. In September 1993 the first workshop on VEs was held in Barcelona, Spain, in conjunction with the annual Eurographics conference. The workshop brought together about 35 researchers from Europe and the US. The second workshop was held together with Imagina '95 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. This time, around 40 researchers from Europe, the US, but also from Asia met for a 2-day exchange of experience. Needless to say -as in all Eurographics workshops -we found the atmosphere very open and refreshing. The workshops were sponsored by ONR (Office of Naval Research), UK; US Army Research Institute, UK; University of Catalonia, Spain; EDF France; CAE France, INA France and IGD Germany and locally organized by Daniele Tost and Jaques David. While in the first workshop in 1993 many concepts in VE were presented, the '95 workshop showed up various applications in different areas and demonstrated quite clearly that Virtual Environments are now used in interactive applications.

Diese Repräsentation resultiert aus einem komplexen Verstehensprozess, der durch die Verwendung von Zusatzsystemen im Fahrzeug beeinträchtigt werden kann, insbesondere wenn diese Systeme auf visuelle und / oder kognitive Verarbeitungskapazitäten zurückgreifen. Um diesem Ressourcenkonfl ikt und der damit verbundenen Ablenkungswirkung vorzubeugen, ist es wichtig, frühzeitig im Entwicklungsprozess von Zusatzsystemen deren Beanspruchungshöhe zu bestimmen. Dieses Forschungsvorhaben evaluiert ein einfach zu implementierendes Verfahren, das auf das Zweitaufgabenparadigma zurückgreift mit dem Ziel, simultan die visuelle und kognitive Beanspruchung von Zusatzsystemen im Fahrzeug zu erfassen. Verschiedenste Fahrerinformationssysteme zählen mittlerweile zur Grundausstattung vieler Fahrzeuge. In der Auslegung dieser Systeme ist es wichtig, dass die Ausführung der Fahraufgabe durch die Bedienung dieser Systeme nicht sicherheitskritisch beeinträchtigt wird. Dieser Beitrag stellt ein einfaches Messverfahren vor, das es frühzeitig im Entwicklungsprozess von Fahrerinformationssystemen ermöglicht, deren visuelle und kognitive Beanspruchung an den Fahrer abzuschätzen und die Auswirkungen auf das Situationsbewusstsein des Fahrers vorherzusagen.
