Even I could not imagine that I will come up with such a book so early. As always, there are few people behind a person who do the things. I, first of all, will mention those three people. Firstly, Himanshu, my husband, this is his idea. It was just a few months back when the research methodology lectures started around March. I was making my notes for class. He said, “Write every lecture in detail; you can make it a book later”. I didn’t know this can be materialized in July. Secondly, my Guruji Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay, who is always an inspiration for almost everything in my life. He deserves special thanks as he only had confidence (which I didn’t have) on me. Thirdly, Dr Krishnendu Dutta, My colleague at Sikkim University. He has just blind confidence in me. He only asked me to do it just now. And I did; thank You Sir! The time when this book was being written was tough in every one’s life. India was fighting with the second wave of COVID-19. With lots of stress and worry of losing one of the dearest members of the family, sometimes I was writing with tears in my eyes. In this journey, two of my dearest students Manisha and Saraswati, who were with me for almost three months, have helped me a lot in nearly everything. They are the witness of all the sentences/pages I was improving. Every diagram I was doing. Thanks a lot, Dear!. God bless you. My mother and sister were worrying every day about how will I finish my work. My MPhil and PhD student. Who unknowingly are the very first inspiration for this book to happen. And to my little sitar student Shradha Sharma who has designed the cover page. Special thanks to the wizard publisher especially Saiyed Junaid, to bear with my delay submitting the manuscript and materializing it.

Book Undergraduate Research in Music

Download or read book Undergraduate Research in Music written by Gregory Young and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undergraduate Research in Music: A Guide for Students supplies tools for scaffolding research skills, with examples of undergraduate research activities and case studies on projects in the various areas of music study. Undergraduate research has become a common degree requirement in some disciplines and is growing rapidly. Many undergraduate activities in music have components that could be combined into compelling undergraduate research projects, either in the required curriculum, as part of existing courses, or in capstone courses centered on undergraduate research. The book begins with an overview chapter, followed by the seven chapters on research skills, including literature reviews, choosing topics, formulating questions, citing sources, disseminating results, and working with data and human subjects. A wide variety of musical subdisciplines follow in Chapters 9–18, with sample project ideas from each, as well as undergraduate research conference abstracts. The final chapter is an annotated guide to online resources that students can access and readily operate. Each chapter opens with inspiring quotations, and wraps up with applicable discussion questions. Professors and students can use Undergraduate Research in Music: A Guide for Students as a text or a reference book in any course that has a significant opportunity for the creation of knowledge or art, within the discipline of music or in connecting music with other disciplines.

It is only necessary to learn the sound of eleven basic intervals, which the student will readily master because they are here presented as the first two tones of widely known tunes, or, as in the case of a few, newly composed melodies that imme' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Rethinking Music through Science and Technology Studies

Download or read book Rethinking Music through Science and Technology Studies written by Antoine Hennion and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume seeks to offer a new approach to the study of music through the lens of recent works in science and technology studies (STS), which propose that facts are neither absolute truths, nor completely relative, but emerge from an intensely collective process of construction. Applied to the study of music, this approach enables us to reconcile the human, social, factual, and technological aspects of the musical world, and opens the prospect of new areas of inquiry in musicology and sound studies. Rethinking Music through Science and Technology Studies draws together a wide range of both leading and emerging scholars to offer a critical survey of STS applications to music studies, considering topics ranging from classical music instrument-making to the ethos of DIY in punk music. The book’s four sections focus on key areas of music study that are impacted by STS: organology, sound studies, music history, and epistemology. Raising crucial methodological and epistemological questions about the study of music, this book will be relevant to scholars studying the interactions between music, culture, and technology from many disciplinary perspectives.

Book excerpt: Children are inherently musical. They respond to music and learn through music. Music expresses children's identity and heritage, teaches them to belong to a culture, and develops their cognitive well-being and inner self worth. As professional instructors, childcare workers, or students looking forward to a career working with children, we should continuously search for ways to tap into children's natural reservoir of enthusiasm for singing, moving and experimenting with instruments. But how, you might ask? What music is appropriate for the children I'm working with? How can music help inspire a well-rounded child? How do I reach and teach children musically? Most importantly perhaps, how can I incorporate music into a curriculum that marginalizes the arts? This book explores a holistic, artistic, and integrated approach to understanding the developmental connections between music and children. This book guides professionals to work through music, harnessing the processes that underlie music learning, and outlining developmentally appropriate methods to understand the role of music in children's lives through play, games, creativity, and movement. Additionally, the book explores ways of applying music-making to benefit the whole child, i.e., socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and linguistically.

Book The Abcs of Music

Download or read book The Abcs of Music written by Kenneth H. Ward and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written with the intent of simplifying the process of learning music. Music theory should be a subject of study like Science, or Mathematics; when, at the conclusion of the course you understand fully the detail of the theory, and the text yields full understanding and appreciation. Through the years of studying good music, many have the feeling, "Now what?" or "Where do we go from here?" It shows evidence the musical vocation has not been made clear. Music, a universal language, is as important as Hot Dogs at a ballgame and should be an occupation to provide for those who live in its' midst. Back to the Science and Mathematics! They earn us a good living with their knowledge properly applied! Let us start with first things first. Study music without instrumentation from the basics first. Require it in the school system like History. Then for those who want to continue, let them turn out some "works" that will surpass the present system with much greater strength!

Book Creative Research in Music

Download or read book Creative Research in Music written by Anna Reid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative Research in Music explores what it means to be an artistic researcher in music in the twenty-first century. The book delineates the myriad processes that underpin successful artistic research in music, providing best practice exemplars ranging from Western classical art to local indigenous traditions, and from small to large-scale, multi-media and cross-cultural work formats. Drawing on the richness of creative research work at key institutions in South-East Asia and Australian, this book examines the social, political, historical and cultural driving forces that spur and inspire excellence in creative research to extend and to cross boundaries, to sustain our music industry, to advocate for the importance of music in our world, and to make it clear that music matters. In the chapters, our authors present the ideas of informed practice, innovation and transcendence from diverse international perspectives. Each of these three themes has an introductory section where the theme is explored and the chapters in that section introduced. Taken as a whole, the book discusses how the themes in combination, with reference to the authorial group, are able to transform music pedagogy and performance for our global and complex world. Download or read book The Music Practitioner written by JaneW. Davidson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful work has been done in recent years in the areas of music psychology, philosophy and education, yet this is the first book to provide a wide assessment of what practical benefits this research can bring to the music practitioner. With 25 chapters by writers representing a broad range of perspectives, this volume is able to highlight many of the potential links between music research and practice. The chapters are divided into five main sections. Section one examines practitioners use of research to assist their practice and the ways in which they might train to become systematic researchers. Section two explores research centred on perception and cognition, while section three looks at how practitioners have explored their everyday work and what this reveals about the creative process. Section four focuses on how being a musician affects an individual‘s sense of self and the how others perceive him or her. The essays in section five outline the new types of data that creative researchers can provide for analysis and interpretation. The concluding chapter discusses that key question - what makes music affect us in the way it does? The research findings in each chapter provide useful sources of data and raise questions that are applicable across the spectrum of music-related disciplines. Moreover, the research methodologies applied to a specific question may have broader application for readers wishing to take on research themselves.

Download or read book Performance Analysis written by Madalena Soveral and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays highlights different questions concerning music theory, interpretation, and performance. Organized into four chapters, the first section looks into interpretation from a hermeneutic perspective, whereas the second analyses the application of this knowledge in musical practice. The discussion turns, in the third part, to a new field of music theory broadly labelled as performance studies. Focused on physical and psychological events, this section broaches fundamental issues such as gesture, bodily movement, expression, emotion, a whole set of processes that act within the framework of performance. The final section addresses the artistic practices in the 21st century across present-day cultural contexts. Proposing a space for reflection in which one tries to imagine the relation between the scientific field and the interpretative process, this volume reflects the central issues of research in performance analysis, establishing connections between different disciplines, methodologies and research trends. It will be of essential interest to researchers, musicians and performers, and music students.
