Book Practical Point of Care Medical Ultrasound

Download or read book Practical Point of Care Medical Ultrasound written by James M. Daniels and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a comprehensive guide for integrating point-of-care ultrasound into clinical care. It includes detailed chapters on the use of ultrasound in cardiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics, as well as for the assessment of the abdomen, musculoskeletal system, eyes, and thorax. Over the last decade, the use of diagnostic, point-of-care ultrasound at the bedside has been widely adopted by healthcare professionals in the United States. This technology has spread into many new areas of clinical medicine and more non-radiologists are seeking training and an up-to-date resource on use of the ultrasound machine. This book provides guidance on how to best approach patients with particular problems, practical guidelines on how to operate the machine and choose probes, descriptions and illustrations that depict the patient’s position and structures that are scanned, and the anatomy and pathophysiology of each area. Practical Point-of-Care Medical Ultrasound is a valuable addition to the library of any resident, fellow, physician, or other healthcare provider who uses ultrasound in a clinical setting.

Book Essentials of Medical Ultrasound

Download or read book Essentials of Medical Ultrasound written by Michael H. Repacholi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the first applications of ultrasound was in submarine sonar equip ment. Since then ultrasound has found increasing applications, particularly in industry, but increasingly in biomedicine. For many years ultrasound has been used in physical therapy, although only in the past decade or two has it evolved from laboratory curiosity to a well-established diagnostic imaging modality. Ultrasound is now a widely accepted, indeed pervasive, diagnos tic and therapeutic tool in the medical field, and its applications are increasing rapidly. Our intent in developing this book is to provide a coherent tutorial intro duction to the field of medical ultrasound at a level suitable for those en tering the area from either medical or scientific backgrounds. The topics discussed should be of interest to nearly all medical and health care per sonnel needing to understand or operate ultrasonic devices, including clini cians, medical technicians, physiotherapists, medical physicists, and other biomedical scientists interested in the field. The book opens with a description of the basic principles of propagating acoustic waves, explains how they interact with a wide range of biological systems, and outlines the effects they produce. To provide practical infor mation to operators of ultrasound equipment, we have included thorough coverage of the details of ultrasonic instrumentation and measurement techniques, and set forth the framework for an effective quality assurance program.

Book Manual of Austere and Prehospital Ultrasound

Download or read book Manual of Austere and Prehospital Ultrasound written by Benjamin D. Nicholson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasound has rapidly become integral to the practice of emergency medicine. Over the past few years, with improvements in device size and cost, there has been increasing interest in exploring the utility of ultrasound in the prehospital environment. Much of the available literature on ultrasound in the emergency setting focuses on care delivered in emergency departments and intensive care units within the developed world. As a result, most resources are inappropriate and inadequate for doctors and non-physicians practicing in out-of-hospital environments that, by definition, are resource limited. This manual fills that gap by focusing on simplified discussions of ultrasound studies, ultrasound physics, and research that impacts out-of-hospital care in order to meet the needs of prehospital and austere providers. The manual discusses the use of ultrasound for diagnosis in out-of-hospital care, advanced noninvasive monitoring of patients, and safety in performing procedures common to the prehospital and austere environment. As is the approach for prehospital education, the chapters are complaint based and not diagnosis based where applicable. Chapters cover ultrasound image interpretation and basic physics; common image adjustments to improve image quality; unique challenges found in urban prehospital environments, austere/wilderness environments, tactical environments, and military special operations environments; and initial training, quality improvement/assurance programs, and credentialing. It also includes a section on procedures such as pericardiocentesis, vascular access, cricothyroidotomy, and others specific to austere providers. The Manual of Austere and Prehospital Ultrasound is an essential resource for physicians and related professionals, residents, and medical students in emergency medicine, civilian and military EMS providers, and critical care flight paramedics and nurses.

This book was released on 2021-03-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes three challenges that were held in conjunction with the 23rd International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2020, in Lima, Peru, in October 2020*: the Anatomical Brain Barriers to Cancer Spread: Segmentation from CT and MR Images Challenge, the Learn2Reg Challenge, and the Thyroid Nodule Segmentation and Classification in Ultrasound Images Challenge. The 19 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected form numerous submissions. The ABCs challenge aims to identify the best methods of segmenting brain structures that serve as barriers to the spread of brain cancers and structures to be spared from irradiation, for use in computer assisted target definition for glioma and radiotherapy plan optimization. The papers of the L2R challenge cover a wide spectrum of conventional and learning-based registration methods and often describe novel contributions. The main goal of the TN-SCUI challenge is to find automatic algorithms to accurately segment and classify the thyroid nodules in ultrasound images. *The challenges took place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At these meetings papers are presented de scribing the latest developments in this field allover the North American continent. The decision of the Executive Board of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine to publish the manu scripts presented at its annual scientific meetings will therefore be welcomed both by workers in the field who are unable to attend the meetings, but nevertheless wish to follow the latest develop ments in their field of interest, and also by members of the Insti tute who will wish to be able to refer later to details in papers of interest. It will be our endeavour to ensure that these Annual Proceedings will be in the hands of subscribers no later than four months after the meeting reported. It is hoped that such prompt publication will further enhance their value to those interested in the field of ultrasound in medicine and biology. The Editor gratefully acknowledges the assistance of his secre tary, Mrs. Joan Carson, upon whose shoulders fell the burden of re typing all the manuscripts in this volume presented in abstract form and who played an invaluable part in the compilation of all the text for photographic printing.
