Book Nano and Bio Based Technologies for Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Nano and Bio Based Technologies for Wastewater Treatment written by Elvis Fosso-Kankeu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents recent challenges related to new forms of pollution from industries and discusses adequate state-of-the-art technologies capable to remediate such forms of pollution. Over the past few decades the boom in the industrial sector has contributed to the release in the environment of pollutants that have no regulatory status and which may have significant impact on the health of humans and animals. These pollutants also referred to as "emerging pollutants", are mostly aromatic compounds which derive from excretion of pharmaceutical, industrial effluents and municipal discharge. It is recurrent these days to find water treatment plants which no longer produce water that fits the purpose of domestic consumption based on newly established guidelines. This situation has prompted water authorities and researchers to develop tools for proper prediction and control of the dispersion of pollutants in the environment to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent the occurrence of outbreaks due to sudden load of these pollutants in the water system. The chapters in this book cover a wide range of nano and bio-based techniques that have been designed for the real time detection of emerging contaminants in environmental water sources, geochemical models that are continuously improved for the prediction of inorganic contaminants migration from the mine solid wastes into ground and surface waters. Remediation strategies are also discussed and include effective techniques based on nanotechnology, advanced membrane filtration, oxidative and bio-degradation processes using various types of nanocatalysts, biocatalysts or supporting polymer matrices which are under advanced investigations for their implementation at large scale for the removal of recalcitrant pollutants from polluted water. Nano and Bio-Based Technologies for Wastewater Treatment: Prediction and Control Tools for the Dispersion of Pollutants in the Environment is divided is two sections. The first section covers the occurrence of emerging pollutants in environmental water while the second section covers state-of-the-art research on the removal of emerging pollutants from water using sustainable technologies. A total of 13 chapters addressing various topics related to the two sections are essentially based on recent developments in the respective field which could have a significant impact on the enhancement of the performance of wastewater treatment plants around the world, and especially in developing countries where access to clean and safe water remains a daily challenge.

Book Detecting Accounting Fraud Analysis and Ethics Global Edition

This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For courses in Accounting Fraud, Forensic Accounting, Financial Statement Fraud, Financial Statement Analysis, Ethics for Accountants, and Auditing. Over the last two decades, financial statement fraud has become an increasingly serious issue, resulting in the collapse of ostensibly solid companies and a subsequent lack of confidence in financial markets. Detecting Accounting Fraud: Analysis and Ethics was created in response to the challenges facing accountants in this era. The text provides students a thorough overview of the most frequently used methods of overstating earnings and assets or understating debt in financial statements. It also provides detailed coverage of the main signals indicating possible fictitious reporting in financial statements to help students learn what to look for. And because breakdowns in ethics underlie accounting fraud, the text presents three major theories of ethics, plus applicable ethical decision-making models as well as opportunities for students to apply ethical models to real-world situations. Book excerpt: Renewable Energy Finance: Theory and Practice, Second Edition integrates the special characteristics of renewable energy with key elements of project finance. Through a mixture of fundamental analysis and real-life examples, readers learn how renewable energy project finance deals mix finance, public policy, legal, engineering and environmental issues. This book investigates the economics of large-scale green power production and incentive mechanisms and how they fit into the global energy industries. It also examines how distributed energy resources such as residential solar and batteries can be financed at the scale needed to play a significant role in the future energy mix. The authors examine how renewable energy projects get financed and built using modern non-recourse project finance structures. It also highlights recent innovations such as Green Bonds and Sustainability Linked Loans that have emerged in the context of ESG investments. The scope of the book is global, and it illustrates how renewable energy project finance has evolved in various places (such as the tax-equity structures used in the United States, due to the corporate tax incentives used there) to cope with local regulatory and policy environments. - Supports efforts to achieve environmental sustainability through renewable financing projects and cleaner production techniques - Provides some real-life case studies to help readers to understand how a project gets financed and built, including the critical interplays between the different financing elements based on how real deals are done - Offers project finance models on a companion website—for wind and solar projects, for example—based on real investment banking experience that can form the basis for student projects and independent study - New to this edition: two new chapters on Addressing Technology Risks for Successful Clean Energy Transition and Financing Green Hydrogen Projects bring the text up to date

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mind-blowing true story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel beyond their portrayal on Netflix. Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar was a devoted family man and a psychopathic killer; a terrible enemy, yet a wonderful friend. While donating millions to the poor, he bombed and tortured his enemies - some had their eyeballs removed with hot spoons. Through ruthless cunning and America's insatiable appetite for cocaine, he became a multi-billionaire, who lived in a $100-million house with its own zoo. Pablo Escobar: Beyond Narcos demolishes the standard good versus evil telling of his story. The authorities were not hunting Pablo down to stop his cocaine business. They were taking over it. Shaun Attwood's War on Drugs trilogy - Pablo Escobar, American Made, and We Are Being Lied To - is a series of harrowing, action-packed and interlinked true stories that demonstrate the catastrophic consequences of drug prohibition."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thoroughly researched book provides the first comprehensive history of how a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Central China Plain, Longmen’s caves and the Buddhist statuary of Luoyang, was rediscovered in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Drawing on original research and archival sources in Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, and Swedish, as well as extensive fieldwork, Dong Wang traces the ties between cultural heritage and modernity, detailing how this historical monument has been understood from antiquity to the present. She highlights the manifold traffic and expanded contact between China and other countries as these nations were reorienting themselves in order to adapt their own cultural traditions to newly industrialized and industrializing societies. Unknown to much of the world, Longmen and its mesmerizing modern history takes readers to the heartland of China, known as “Chinese Babylon” a century ago. With remarkable depth and breadth, this book unravels both a bygone and a continuing human pursuit of artefacts—shared, spiritual, modern, and above all beautiful that have linked so many lives, Chinese and foreign.

Book Sri Swami Satchidananda Apostle of Peace

Download or read book Sri Swami Satchidananda Apostle of Peace written by Joan Wiener Bordow and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The dedicated ever enjoy supreme peace. Therefore live only to serve." This direction from ancient scriptures has been a guiding light for Sri Swami Satchidananda, one of the world's most respected and loved spiritual masters. His life has been dedicated to the service of others--all others regardless of race, religion, nationality, or any other category. An authentic holy man with a keen sense of humor and humility, Swami Satchidananda's radiance, benevolence, tolerance and understanding have helped to bring peace and enlightenment not only to those who practice Yoga but to thousands of Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and others all over the globe. Sri Swami Satchidananda: Apostle of Peace tells the life story of this remarkable being. Born into a deeply spiritual family, he became a successful businessman and happy family man. After losing his wife, he chose the path of renunciation and devoted himself completely to spiritual life. Years of studying with many great sages and saints led him to his Guru, the legendary Sri Swami Sivananda. Swami Satchidananda soon became known as a great spiritual teacher in both the East and the West. Nicely balanced between the actual sayings, writings, and informal teachings of Swami Satchidananda himself and the running narrative of his extraordinary life, this biography stands as both an amazing, highly entertaining story, and as an inspirational guide and book of spiritual wisdom. From the Foreword by Father Thomas Keating, OCSO: "Sri Swami Satchidananda has devoted himself tirelessly to the promotion of spirituality, transcultural values and understanding among the world religions."
