Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bright with Silver, first published in 1947, it has been nearly sixty years since Kathrene Pinkerton wrote Bright with Silver. This study of the famous Fromm brothers and their endeavor and persistence to breed a very rare and valuable type of fox would become a landmark history of American entrepreneurship. The simple beauty and elegance of the silver fox would be the fulfillment of the brothers' struggles to build a fur breeding empire. The story of the Fromm brothers that Pinkerton provides is a classic study of ingenuity and stick-to-itiveness that for so many years became a trademark of these four brothers. The intricate and complex history of their endeavors began with growing ginseng. This included intense observations of the plant that would provide the conditions, which eventually yielded abundant harvests that resulted in the necessary cash to start their fur business. Of course, the main story of Pinkerton is how the dreams of a perfect silver fox culture had overtaken the Fromm's possessions, thoughts and lives. The continual endeavor to find the right strain for their silver fox breed and their devotion to medical research that would ease the ravages of disease that could plague these precious animals would be the story that Pinkerton does so very well. It is without doubt that these four brothers, Walter, Edward, John, and Henry brought to the central Wisconsin landscape a business enterprise that played a large part in the economic development of this part of the state. Their story has all the ingredients of imagination, creativity, and great business sense. This edition brings back the story of the Fromm brothers that has been long gone, and sorely missed from the Wisconsin literary scene. Included are 32 pages of photographs.

This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been significant expansion and development in clinical laboratory sciences and, in particular, metrological concepts, definitions and terms since the previous edition of this book was published in 1995. It is of prime importance to standardize laboratory reports for reliable exchange of patient examination data without loss of meaning or accuracy. New disciplines have appeared and the interrelationships between different disciplines within clinical laboratory sciences demand a common structure and language for data exchange, in the laboratory and with the clinicians, necessitating additional coverage in this book. These new sections will be based upon recommendations published by various national, regional, and international bodies especially IUPAC and IFCC. This book groups and updates the recommendations and will be appropriate for laboratory scientists, medical professionals and students in this area.

Book excerpt: More intense, suspenseful, and gothic than ever, the thrilling Russ Manning Award–nominated Silver saga from Stephan Franck—the supervising animator of Marvel Studio’s What If . . . ?—concludes in Silver: Of Hunters and Prey, an epic finale complete with wry humor, compelling characters, and deep secrets. “There may not be a better original vampire comic book in America than Silver.” —ComicBookBin Deep undercover in a castle full of vampires, charismatic conman James Finnigan and his motley group of grifters must stay one step ahead of the undead in order to steal the famed treasure called the Silver Dragon and live to tell the tale. Will the team crack under pressure? And has Sledge been honest about her involvement? As the last of the Van Helsings, slaying vampires is in her blood, and merely stealing from them may just not be enough. Set in the noir-pulp era of the 1930s, Stephan Franck’s Silver: Of Hunters and Prey is a rip-roaring, genre-bending graphic novel that draws on the best of gothic horror and heist tropes to tell a story that is pure adventure. Offering the captivating dynamics of an ensemble cast of misfits, while inviting us into a world where Bram Stoker’s Dracula is more fact than fiction, Silver is a smart, innovative story complete with world-class visuals and sharply drawn characters that’s equal parts action, humor, and heart.

The ones that shine and the ones that don’t. JAMES FINNIGAN, master thief, only concerns himself with objects from the first category. Those objects don’t hide in plain sight. They hide in dark places. When Finnigan loses his grifter gang’s entire fortune in a job gone wrong, he’s desperate to make amends. He stumbles on his chance to do so in the crypt of the Harker Foundation, where he finds a bar of pure silver and a notebook that tells of the Silver Dragon, an ancient, immeasurable treasure beyond imagination. It’s a tall tale, but also Finnigan’s only lead. To make up for what he’s lost, he formulates the heist of the millennium in search of the Silver Dragon. There’s just one catch: the famed treasure is said to be hidden in a castle full of vampires. Set in the noir-pulp era of the 1930s in a world where Bram Stoker’s Dracula is more fact than fiction, Silver is a genre-bending, rip-roaring romp that’s equal parts gothic horror and pure adventure. With its ensemble cast of misfits, beautifully sharp art, and whip-smart humor, Stephan Franck has struck gold in the first of this critically acclaimed duology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a clear and comprehensive guide to the 2017 FIDIC contracts—written by a member of the FIDIC Updates Task Group FIDIC contracts are the most widely used engineering standard form contracts internationally but until 2017 the three main forms (the Red, Yellow and Silver Books) had not been amended or updated for nearly two decades, since the first editions were published in 1999. Written by a specialist lawyer who was member of the FIDIC Updates Task Group responsible for writing the new contracts, this book examines in detail the many substantial changes they have introduced. After providing an overview the contracts are examined clause by clause with the aim of showing how each compares and contrasts with the others and how the second editions compare and contrast with the first. The first chapter describes how the Red, Yellow and Silver Books evolved from earlier contract forms and the distinctive characteristics of each, before providing an overview of the updates, including new potential risks for both Employer and Contractor, and then examining, in the second chapter, key general provisions such as the new rules on notices and limitation of liability. Chapter 3 examines the enhanced role of the Engineer in the Red and Yellow Books/Employer’s Representative’s function in the Silver including the new procedure for determinations as well as the Employer’s obligations and contract administration. The Contractor’s obligations are considered in chapter 4 while chapter 5 examines his responsibility for design in the Yellow and Silver Books. Chapters 6 to 14 deal respectively with plant, materials and workmanship and staff and labour; time-related provisions in the three contracts including extensions of time, and the Employer’s right to suspend the works; testing on and after completion and the Employer’s taking over of the works; defects after taking over, acceptance of the works and unfulfilled obligations; measurement (in the Red Book), the Contract Price and payment; the new variations regime and adjustments to the Price; termination and suspension; care of the works and indemnities and Exceptional Events (previously, Force Majeure). An important feature of the new contracts is their increased emphasis on clarity in the claims process and on dispute avoidance. These topics are examined in the final two chapters, 15 and 16, which deal respectively with the new claims and dispute resolution provisions of the 2017 forms. FIDIC contracts are the most widely used standard forms of contract for international engineering and construction projects Provides a clear and comprehensive guide to the 2017 FIDIC Red, Yellow and Silver Books Written by a senior specialist lawyer and member of the FIDIC 2017 Updates Task Group responsible for writing the new contracts Accessible to those with little or no familiarity with FIDIC contracts The 2017 FIDIC Contracts is an important guide for anyone engaged in international projects, including employers, contractors, engineers, lawyers, suppliers and project financiers/sponsors.
