Book Silicon Carbide Whisker Metal Matrix Composites

Download or read book Silicon Carbide Whisker Metal Matrix Composites written by Fred Ordway and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aluminum alloy composites reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers were prepared by liquid-phase hot pressing of aligned whisker-powder bodies. Biaxial (x-y) alignment was obtained by filtering a liquid slurry. Uniaxial alignment was obtained by performing the filtration in a magnetic field, extruding the whisker-powder mixture suspended in solid camphene, or extruding the hot-pressed composite near the matrix melting temperature. Book Silicon Carbide Whisker metal Matrix Composites

Download or read book Silicon Carbide Whisker metal Matrix Composites written by A. Divecha and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several metals and alloys were examined for reinforcement with alpha SiC whiskers. High-temperature matrices were found to degrade the whiskers significantly. Aluminum-silicon alloys and magnesium and its alloys were found compatible at up to their respective solidus temperatures. Hypoeutectic aluminum-silicon alloy composites were investigated in detail. A linear relationship between whisker loading up to about 35 v/o tensile strength was established with reproducible consistency in aluminum -2.5 w/o silicon matrix composites. Classified +60 mesh-length whiskers and 10 microns matrix powder yielded notably higher tensile properties. At 38 v/o, tensile strengths of 68,000 psi were obtained. In 25 v/o whisker composites, strengths of about 13,000 psi at 500 C were recorded consistently. Heat treatable aluminum alloy composites yielded erratic results due to an uncontrolled aging response of the matrix during conventional heat treatments. (Author).

Book Investigation of Silicon Carbide Whisker Reinforced Metallic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Investigation of Silicon Carbide Whisker Reinforced Metallic Matrix Composites written by Harold N. Barr and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique was developed for orienting silicon carbide whiskers in a metal matrix which involves the preparation of a liquid slurry of the whiskers and matrix metal powder followed by the extrusion of the slurry through a fine orifice die. The technique was further developed for the fabrication of aluminum alloy-silicon carbide whisker composites with oriented whiskers. The fabrication of such shapes as strip, tubes, bushings, and cones with oriented whiskers was demonstrated. Mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy-silicon carbide whisker composites were measured at room temperature and at 204 to 427C. The effect of silicon carbide whisker loading, whisker type, and metal powder particle size was studied. (Author).

Book Investigation of microstructural factors that cause low fracture toughness in silicon carbide whisker al alloy composites

Download or read book Investigation of microstructural factors that cause low fracture toughness in silicon carbide whisker al alloy composites written by Franklin Edward Wawner and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This program deals with determining factors that influence strength, ductility, fracture toughness, and elongation to failure in Silicon Carbon Whisker/Aluminum alloy composites. Specifically, a microstructural study is being made in an attempt to define extrinsic and intrinsic factors that control fracture and thus influence properties. One of the more important products produced by ACMC from SiCw/Al composites has been the rolled sheet. The response of the material to secondary processing and thermo-mechanical treatment is of utmost importance with respect to material quality. The present study emphasizes microstructural-mechanical property characterization of the rolled material (JES).

Book Fiber reinforced Metal matrix Composites 1968

Download or read book Fiber reinforced Metal matrix Composites 1968 written by K. R. Hanby and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Report is intended to update DMIC Report S-21, which describes 1967 research on fiber-reinforced metal-matrix composites. A two-page summary outlines the current state of the art of these composites, and is followed by a discussion of 1968 research on the composites, arranged according to matrix- and fiber-materials. The bulk of the report consists of summaries of 1968 research programs, arranged by programs. (Author).

Book Metallic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Metallic Matrix Composites written by Kenneth G. Kreider and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite Materials, Volume 4: Metallic Matrix Components provides an in-depth report and a reference on the technology of metal-matrix composites. The book starts by giving an introduction to metal-matrix composites, and by discussing the principal metal-laminate fabrication methods, the properties of metal laminates, and materials engineering of laminated-metal composites for specific applications. The text also describes the technology in eutectic superalloys of nickel and cobalt; nickel alloys reinforced with alpha-Al2O3 filaments; and the problems and progress encountered in developing wire-reinforced superalloys. The fiber-reinforced titanium alloys; the development of metal-matrix composites reinforced with high-modulus graphite fibers; as well as the development, the physical and mechanical properties, and the engineering considerations for the use of boron-aluminum are also encompassed. Materials scientists and engineers will find the book invaluable.
