Book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant

Download or read book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant written by G. Strukul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical that is becoming increasingly fashionable as an oxidant, both in industry and in academia and whose production is expected to increase significantly in the next few years. This growth in interest is largely due to environmental considerations related to the clean nature of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant, its by-product being only water. To date this chemical has largely been employed as a non-selective oxidant in operations like the bleaching of paper, cellulose and textiles, or in the formulation of detergents, and only to a minimal extent in the manufacture of organic chemicals. This book has been organized to cover the different aspects of the chemistry of hydrogen peroxide. The various chapters into which the book is divided have been written critically by the authors with the general aim of stimulating new ideas and emphasizing those aspects that are likely to lead to new developments in organic synthesis in the coming future.

Book MWW Type Titanosilicate

Download or read book MWW Type Titanosilicate written by Peng Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of a new generation of selective oxidation titanosilicate catalysts with the MWW topology (Ti-MWW) based on the research achievements of the past 12 years. It gives an overview of the synthesis, structure modification and catalytic properties of Ti-MWW. Ti-MWW can readily be prepared by means of direct hydrothermal synthesis with crystallization-supporting agents, using dual-structure-directing agents and a dry-gel conversion technique. It also can be post-synthesized through unique reversible structure transformation and liquid-phase isomorphous substitution. The structural conversion of Ti-MWW into the materials usable for processing large molecules is summarized. Taking advantage of the structure diversity of the lamellar precursor of Ti-MWW, it can be fully or partially delaminated, and undergo interlayer silylation to obtain a novel structure with larger porosity. In the selective oxidation (alkene epoxidation and ketone/aldehyde ammoximation) with hydrogen peroxide or organic peroxide as an oxidant, the unique catalytic properties of Ti-MWW are described in comparison to conventional titanosilicates such as TS-1 and Ti-Beta.

Book Environmentally Benign Photocatalysts

Download or read book Environmentally Benign Photocatalysts written by Masakazu Anpo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-10 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades, mankind has observed an unprecedented and remarkable growth in industry, resulting in a more prosperous lifestyle for peoples of many countries. In developing countries, however, explosive industrial growth is just now beginning to raise the living standards of the people. Most industries, especially in these developing countries, are still powered by the burning of fossil fuels; con- quently, a lack of clean energy resources has caused environmental pollution on an unprecedented large and global scale. Toxic wastes have been relentlessly released into the air and water leading to serious and devastating environmental and health problems while endangering the planet and life itself with the effects of global warming. To address these urgent environmental issues, new catalytic and photocatalytic processes as well as open-atmospheric systems are presently being developed that can operate at room temperature while being totally clean and ef?cient and thus environmentally harmonious. Essential to technologies harnessing the abundant solar energy that reaches the earth are the highly functional photocatalytic proce- es that can utilize not only UV light, but also visible light.

Book Transition Metal Oxides

Download or read book Transition Metal Oxides written by H.H. Kung and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1989-04-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author presents an up-to-date summary of existing information on the structure, electronic properties, chemistry and catalytic properties of transition metal oxides. The subjects covered in the book can be divided into three sections. The first (chapters 1 to 3) covers the structural, physical, magnetic, and electronic properties of transition metal oxides. Although the emphasis is on surface properties, relevant bulk properties are also discussed. The second section (chapters 4 to 7) covers surface chemical properties. It includes topics that describe the importance of surface coordinative unsaturation in adsorption, the formation of surface acidity and the role of acidity in determining surface chemical properties, the nature and reactivities of adsorbed oxygen, and the surface chemistry in the reduction of oxides. The third section (chapters 8 to 14) is on the catalytic properties. Various catalytic reactions including decomposition, hydrogenation, isomerization, metathesis, selective oxidation, and reactions involving carbon oxides are discussed. Emphasis is placed more on reaction mechanisms and the role of catalysts than on kinetics and processes. Chapters on the preparation of oxide catalysts and on photo-assisted processes are also included. Whenever appropriate, relationships between various topics are indicated. Written for surface physicists, chemists, and catalytic engineers, the book will serve as a useful source of information for investigators and as a comprehensive overview of the subject for graduate students.

Book Environmental Friendly Catalytic Oxidation Processes Based on Hierarchical Titanium Silicate Zeolites at SINOPEC

Download or read book Environmental Friendly Catalytic Oxidation Processes Based on Hierarchical Titanium Silicate Zeolites at SINOPEC written by Changjiu Xia and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since it was claimed by EniChem in 1983 for the first time, titanium silicate-1 (TS-1) zeolite presented the most delightful catalytic performance in the area of selective organic oxidation reactions. To enhance the mass diffusion property, hierarchical titanium silicate with hollow cavities within crystal was prepared by using a post-synthesis treatment in the presence of organic template, and then, it was commercially produced and employed in many industrial catalytic oxidation processes, such as propylene epoxidation, phenol hydroxylation, and cyclohexanone ammoximation. Moreover, we also developed several totally novel oxidation reactions on hollow titanium silicate (HTS) zeolite, id est, Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone and chlorohydrination of allyl chloride with HCl and H2O2. In all cases, HTS shows much better catalytic performance than TS-1, attributing to the mass diffusion intensification by introducing hollow cavities. On the other hand, enormous works on synthesizing hierarchical TS-1 zeolites with open intracrystalline mesopores have been done via silanization treatment and recrystallization. Based on them, several bulk molecule oxidation processes with tert-butyl hydroperoxide, such as epoxidation of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and large olefins, have been carried out. As a consequence, hierarchical TS-1 zeolites supply a platform for developing environmental-friendly catalytic oxidation processes to remarkably overcome the drawbacks of traditional routes.

This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, different catalysts were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition of titanium tetrachloride onto Aerosil200 from Evonik(c) serving as an amorphous silica source, similar to the synthesis of the catalyst of Shell's SMPO process(c), and presumably also similar to the titanium site in TS-1(c). The catalysts were characterized by different spectroscopical methods (e.g. 35Cl NMR, 51V NMR, isotope exchange experiments) and molecuar models for the as obtained surface species were suggested. Finally, the prepared catalysts were used for kinetic experiments and compared to TS-1(c) in epoxidation of different olefi

Book Higher Oxidation State Organoselenides as Catalysts for the Activation of Hydrogen Peroxide

Download or read book Higher Oxidation State Organoselenides as Catalysts for the Activation of Hydrogen Peroxide written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organoselenides in higher oxidation states are effective catalysts for the activation of hydrogen peroxide. Arylseleninic acids were found to be catalysts for the oxidation of bromide with hydrogen peroxide in a two-phase mixture of ether and pH-6 phosphate buffer. Benzeneseleninic acid and 4-methoxyphenylseleninic acid were more efficient catalysts than 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylseleninic acid, 4-nitrophenylseleninic acid, 4-dimethylaminophenylseleninic acid, and 2,4,6-trimethylphenylseleninic acid. Aryl benzyl selenoxides are also catalysts for the bromination of organic substrates in two-phase systems of CH 2 Cl 2 and pH-6 phosphate buffer containing 2 M NaBr and 2.6 M H202. The catalysts are effective at 2.5 mol % relative to the organic substrates. In the bromination of 4-pentenoic acid, catalysts with electron-donating groups (EDG) provide increased reactivity relative to electron-withdrawing group (EWG) substituted catalysts. Benzyl 2-(dimethylaminomethyl)phenyl selenoxide was the most effective catalyst and was used in the preparative bromination of 4-pentenoic acid, 2,2-diphenyl-4-pentenoic acid, 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene, N, N -dimethylaniline, and N -phenylmorpholine. Initial studies have shown that aryl benzyl selenoxides are additionally effective catalysts for the epoxidation of organic substrates. In the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene, electron-withdrawing substituents in the selenoxides demonstrate a faster rate of reaction compared to their electron-donating group counterparts. Benzyl 3,5-bistrifluoromethylphenyl selenoxide was the most effective catalyst studied. Aryl benzyl selenoxides are efficient catalysts for epoxidation of alkenes and for Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of various carbonyl-containing compounds using H 2 O 2 . Of the selenoxides examined here, selenoxide 63 is kinetically the most active catalyst. Rates of Baeyer-Villiger oxidation and epoxidation of the substrates studied with the selenoxide catalysts were similar. Attempts at asymmetric induction with C 2 symmetric selenoxides proved ineffective. Preliminary data indicates that chalcogen containing xerogels may be viable marine antifouling and fouling-release agents. The chalcogens catalyze formation of a hypo-halous barrier with the halide salts and hydrogen peroxide present in ocean water. This barrier aids in the prevention of settlement and removal of bioorganisms. It was determined that xerogels with some hydrophilic silanes are necessary for halide and hydrogen peroxide permeation. Catalysts with two active sites are more effective than catalysts with one active site. Further work is needed to determine the optimal xerogel composition and the most efficient chalcogen catalyst.
