Book excerpt: A woman and her two daughters are killed in a car bombing in Tel Aviv. The woman, a sophisticated academic, is also a Mossad assassin of nearly twenty years. Her husband, Pantera, identifies the bodies of his wife and children, swearing vengeance. Reaching as far back as 1989, to their meeting in Rome at a U.S. Embassy New Year's Eve ball, Deadly Dance starts the story of their relationship in the onion-layered world of covert operatives. Of necessity theirs is an encounter beset by lies wrapped in half-truths, concealed in shadowy realities. Kat and Pantera maneuver through action-packed covert operations, romantic encounters, torture and acrobatic combat, all while coming to grips about who they're hunting and who is hunting them. Deadly Dance is based on the life of the youngest Kidon Katsa agent in the history of Mossad and her husband, the fabled Chief Black Site Interrogator, who worked under such special access programs as the Operation Copper Green (created under Donald Rumsfeld), the United Nations Security Council - Special Operations Group (UN-SOG), and Task Forces 88 and 121. "A brilliantly insightful trip into the unique experience and tragic romance of two extraordinary people chasing demons through the secret real world. Wallace demonstrates how easily the most extreme and malevolent behavior can become acceptable when redefined within a context that makes any ordinary sense of right and wrong seem meaningless. His characters are as disturbingly human as any of us, and frighteningly likeable and real from an altered perspective on the everyday world we only thought we knew." Keith Harary, Ph.D. Executive Director, Institute for Advanced Psychology Bestselling author, Who Do You Think You Are?

Book Dancing Cats Silent Canaries

Download or read book Dancing Cats Silent Canaries written by David Denton Davis and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the biggest mistakes of the 20th Century may be the use of polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC, in baby mattresses and the aggressive use of unproven baby and infant vaccines. Both PVC and vaccines contain dangerous heavy metal toxins. The epidemics of Sudden Infant Death and the spectrum of autistic disorders have grown in parallel with the growing use of PVC and vaccines. Dr. Davis' emergency medicine career has witnessed many events that support his accusations. This book provides parents with little known but important facts that suggest both PVC and vaccines can be deadly or disabling alone or in combination with each other. Most importantly, Dr. Davis offers parents, who wish to become advocates, steps that can be taken to protect their babies from the oversights and greed of the petrochemical, pharmaceutical and medical industries before it is too late.

Book The Cat Who Thought Too Much An Essay Into Felinity

Download or read book The Cat Who Thought Too Much An Essay Into Felinity written by Robin D. Gill and published by Paraverse Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine a cat who mastered more tricks than a highly trained dog, covered up cans of food he did not want to eat before they were opened and could delicately touch a tiny finger-spun top repeatedly without stopping it. Han-chan was such a cat. His memory, preserved in notes and sketches, inspired an authority on stereotypes of national character and translator of Edo era Japanese poetry to essay out of his fields of expertise and into felinity. Sample chapters: The animal that kneads the world. / Conversing with cats: easier in Japanese? / Smiling with closed eyes, or far from Ecotopia. /Are cats the most or least false animal. / Beauty: Is it relative or . . . is it the cat? / A little red mouse, or are we keeping the right pet? / The third-generation tanuki - a new theory of domestication. Observations are coupled with thought about things such as 1) whether the altered behavior usually explained as saving face or covering up weakness is not more like improvisation that, retrospectively, makes melodic sense of what would be wrong notes by offsetting or dream-style logic that, ever present, keeps the flow from breaking. 2) Cats, or some cats, may avoid trauma from bad experiences by convincing themselves it was only a nightmare and continuing to hope until they can cope. 3) Cats demonstrate their social nature by showing off their catches, sleeping together in the cold and behaving themselves, but most are, unfortunately, like so-called feral children: because they are separated from their family while too young to have socialized, they re-enforce the stereotype of the independent asocial cat. One can only understand felinity by living with generations of cats under one roof. The author did this. People who liked Barbara Holland's "Secrets of the Cat," the cat chapter in Vicki Hearne's "Adam's Task" and Leonard Michaels' "A Cat" will probably purr while reading this.

Book Silent Players

Download or read book Silent Players written by Anthony Slide and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2002-09-27 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " From his unique perspective of friendship with many of the actors and actresses about whom he writes, silent film historian Anthony Slide creates vivid portraits of the careers and often eccentric lives of 100 players from the American silent film industry. He profiles the era’s shining stars such as Lillian Gish and Blanche Sweet; leading men including William Bakewell and Robert Harron; gifted leading ladies such as Laura La Plante and Alice Terry; ingénues like Mary Astor and Mary Brian; and even Hollywood’s most famous extra, Bess Flowers. Although each original essay is accompanied by significant documentation and an extensive bibliography, Silent Players is not simply a reference book or encyclopedic recitation of facts culled from the pages of fan magazines and trade periodicals. It contains a series of insightful portraits of the characters who symbolize an original and pioneering era in motion history and explores their unique talents and extraordinary private lives. Slide offers a potentially revisionist view of many of the stars he profiles, repudiating the status of some and restoring to fame others who have slipped from view. He personally interviewed many of his subjects and knew several of them intimately, putting him in a distinctive position to tell their true stories.
