In fact, rather than consider "of language" in the expression "philosophy of language" as indicating language as the object of study of philosophy, this expression, "philosophy of language," may be understood as indicating "philosophy" inherent in language itself, that is, the attitude, the inclination to philosophy, to philosophizing characteristic of language."--
