Download or read book Effects of Multisensory Sight Word Practice on Reading Fluency written by Joan Padley and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if adding a multisensory approach to teaching and practicing sight words would increase the reading fluency of second grade students in a Level 1 special education class. Students were given a pre- and post-assessment on the list of sight words used in the Marion Independent School District where the study took place. They were assessed weekly on reading fluency and comprehension. A pre- and post- treatment of student attitudes toward reading was also administered. The students demonstrated improvement in both sight word identification and reading fluency at the end of this study.

Book The Effects of Using a Multi Sensory Approach to Improve Reading Recovery Students Sight Word Recognition

Download or read book The Effects of Using a Multi Sensory Approach to Improve Reading Recovery Students Sight Word Recognition written by Wendi S. Shaffer and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to see if using a multisensory approach in teaching sight words would improve reading and writing in Reading Recovery students. A multisensory approach to teach sight word recognition was implemented at the beginning of the school year to four first grade students who scored the lowest of the twenty students given the Ohio Word Test, Writing Vocabulary Test, and running records on benchmark books. It was believed by providing students with multisensory lessons in sight word recognition their writing vocabulary, text level, ans sight word recognition would improve. At the conclusion of the study, the Ohio Word Test, Writing Vocabulary Test, and running records on benchmark books were given as posttests. Findings indicated participating in multisensory lessons increased students' sight word recognition, writing vocabulary, and text level.

Book Methods for Sight Word Recognition in Kindergarten

Download or read book Methods for Sight Word Recognition in Kindergarten written by William E. Phillips and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quasi-experimental action research with a pretest-posttest same subject design was implemented to determine if there is a different effect of the flash card method and the multisensory approach on kindergarteners' achievement in sight word recognition, and which method is more effective if there is any difference. Instrumentation for pretest and posttest were the Dolch sight word pre-primer and primer list. Ten words were selected from a collective list of unknown Dolch sight words. There five unknown Dolch sight words used for the flash card method for a total of two weeks, and there were five additional unknown Dolch sight words used for the multisensory approach for a total of two weeks. A posttest was administered to collect data on learned Dolch sight words after the two weeks of instruction was complete for both types of instruction. The flash card method involved flashing Dolch sight words to participants, discussing the word, and using it in a sentence, while repeating the process until words were read correctly by participants. The multisensory approach consisted of using visuals, kinesthetic-tactile movements, and auditory and mnemonic skills. This included using Dolch sight words in contextual form, writing, sky writing, spelling, and drawing, while using textured surfaces and the color red to signify the Dolch sight word. A paired t-test was conducted for comparing the effect of traditional flashcard method and the multisensory approach on kindergarteners' sight word recognition. The results showed significant gains in Dolch sight word acquisition in favor of the multisensory approach. (Contains 13 figures.).

Book Flash Card Method Vs the Multisensory Approach and Sight Word Recognition

Download or read book Flash Card Method Vs the Multisensory Approach and Sight Word Recognition written by Kristin Rutz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine if there was a different effect of flash card method vs. the multisensory approach on kindergarteners' achievement in sight word recognition. The researcher arranged for one group of 12 students to receive the flashcard method when teaching sight words. A second group of 12 students received sight word instruction using the multisensory approach based on the Orton-Gillingham method. Using the students' benchmark assessments, midpoint, and posttest scores, the researcher compared the two groups. The author concluded that both groups learned how to read their sight words at about the same rate, but the multisensory students were able to spell the sight words more accurately than the flash card group and appeared to have more enthusiasm for learning.

Book Impact of Technology on Sight Word Recognition on Kindergarten Self Contained Special Education Students

Download or read book Impact of Technology on Sight Word Recognition on Kindergarten Self Contained Special Education Students written by Robyn Jaffee and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research has shown that techniques of literacy development are rapidly and incessantly changing as new information and technology appear. As a result, literacy instruction is also changing as it converges with technology. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of technology on sight word recognition in kindergarten self-contained special education students. The study involved one group of twelve kindergarten students utilizing a pre and post-test control group design. Results indicate that students exposed to technology-assisted instruction demonstrated a higher level of word recognition. The use of assisted technology, along with teacher instruction, is promoting literacy development beneficial to kindergarten students. Future research efforts should include other areas of learning, e.g. sentence structure.
