Book excerpt: The movement known as Hindu Resurgence, Hindu Awakening or Hindu Renaissance has become increasingly noticeable, and there is a distinct effort to liberate Hinduism from the definitions andlimitations imposed by the domination of hostile outsiders. However, confusion and lack of proper information are still serious obstacles on the path of proper understanding and realisation. India, or as it was called in ancient times, Bharata Varsha, has an immense potential that can be materialised simply by returning to the correctoriginal perspective of the golden Vedic civilisation that is the natural heritage of all Indians and in fact of all human beings. The Rig Veda samhita (9.63.5) points us in the correct direction: Krinvanto visvam aryam, "Let everyone become arya"

Book The Authority of Female Speech in Indian Goddess Traditions

Download or read book The Authority of Female Speech in Indian Goddess Traditions written by Anway Mukhopadhyay and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-27 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary debates on “mansplaining” foreground the authority enjoyed by male speech, and highlight the way it projects listening as the responsibility of the dominated, and speech as the privilege of the dominant. What mansplaining denies systematically is the right of women to speak and be heard as much as men. This book excavates numerous instances of the authority of female speech from Indian goddess traditions and relates them to the contemporary gender debates, especially to the issues of mansplaining and womansplaining. These traditions present a paradigm of female speech that compels its male audience to reframe the configurations of “masculinity.” This tradition of authoritative female speech forms a continuum, even though there are many points of disjuncture as well as conjuncture between the Vedic, Upanishadic, puranic, and tantric figurations of the Goddess as an authoritative speaker. The book underlines the Goddess’s role as the spiritual mentor of her devotee, exemplified in the Devi Gitas, and re-situates the female gurus in Hinduism within the traditions that find in Devi’s speech ultimate spiritual authority. Moreover, it explores whether the figure of Devi as Womansplainer can encourage a more dialogic structure of gender relations in today’s world where female voices are still often undervalued.

Download or read book Yoga Psychology written by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-02-17 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychology, for the author, is a developing science which is considered to be a part of philosophy. Traditionally philosophy has included the branches of ontology, metaphysics, ethics and epistemology, but Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii has expanded the scope of philosophy to include psychology and spiritual practices. In fact, this is one of the features which makes Ananda Marga spiritual philosophy unique.Regarding the scope of philosophy and psychology, in "Our Philosophical Treatise" (Tattva Kaomudii Part 2, 1969), the author writes: In Western philosophy there is no mention of spiritual practice, because Western philosophers had no opportunity to learn such a practice. The main reason is that, in the theology prevalent in the West, there is no concrete spiritual practice.According to general belief, psychology is a part of general science, and should therefore not be included as a part of philosophy. Thus psychology has been accepted as a branch of science in the West. But in Ananda Marga, psychology has been included as a part of philosophy. Moreover, according to Ananda Marga, the scope of psychology is wider than what is usually accepted by psychologists.Yoga psychology, though a part of philosophy, is also a science, but is not restricted to the materialistic paradigm which characterizes Western philosophy and psychology. It is the science by which spiritual aspirants can acquire knowledge and mastery of themselves in their quest for Self-realization. Knowledge of yoga psychology is essential for spiritual practices; without this knowledge, aspirants will not achieve success in their spiritual endeavours.

Book The Eternal Dance of Macrocosm

Download or read book The Eternal Dance of Macrocosm written by M. Towsey and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of fascinating essays which which attempt to find a synthesis between science, sociology and spirituality; East and West; materialism and mysticism. Using the ideas of the twentieth century polymath and mystic P. R. Sarkar as a base, the author weaves together the best of the scientific and mystical traditions, and searches for a point upon which they can meet and enrich each other instead of collide, thus also enriching our shared human experience. Comparisons are made with thinkers such as Thomas Kuhn ('The Structure of Scientific Revolutions'), Maturana, Verela, Sheldrake and Ken Wilber, among others. The essays discuss the idea of a paradigm shift within science, which will lead us beyond the materialist paradigm; the possible synthesis between Tantric metaphysics with modern physics and psychology; the layers and functions of mind and consciousness, with tantric and yogic practices being considered and a science of intuition and expansion of mind; and the idea of 'science with heart' which, without abandoning the scientific method, can incorporate the fact that we are not only physical entities, but also emotional and spiritual ones, seeking purpose and meaning.

Book Resistance in Everyday Life

Download or read book Resistance in Everyday Life written by Nandita Chaudhary and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-10 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about resistance in everyday life, illustrated through empirical contexts from different parts of the world. Resistance is a widespread phenomenon in biological, social and psychological domains of human cultural development. Yet, it is not well articulated in the academic literature and, when it is, resistance is most often considered counter-productive. Simple evaluations of resistance as positive or negative are avoided in this volume; instead it is conceptualised as a vital process for human development and well-being. While resistance is usually treated as an extraordinary occurrence, the focus here is on everyday resistance as an intentional process where new meaning constructions emerge in thinking, feeling, acting or simply living with others. Resistance is thus conceived as a meaning-making activity that operates at the intersection of personal and collective systems. The contributors deal with strategies for handling dissent by individuals or groups, specifically dissent through resistance. Resistance can be a location of intense personal, interpersonal and cultural negotiation, and that is the primary reason for interest in this phenomenon. Ordinary life events contain innumerable instances of agency and resistance. This volume discusses their manifestations, and it is therefore of interest for academics and researchers of cultural psychology, cultural studies, anthropology, sociology, and human development.

Book Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic

Download or read book Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic written by Osho and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2001-06-09 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understand the life and teachings of Osho, one of the twentieth century’s most unusual gurus and philosophers, in Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic. In 1990, Osho prepared for his departure from the body that had served him for fifty-nine years—in the words of his attending physician—“as calmly as though he were packing for a weekend in the country.” Who was this man, known as the Sex Guru, the “self-appointed bhagwan” (Rajneesh), the Rolls-Royce Guru, the Rich Man’s Guru, and simply the Master? Drawn from nearly five thousand hours of Osho’s recorded talks, this is the story of his youth and education, his life as a professor of philosophy and years of travel teaching the importance of meditation, and the true legacy he sought to leave behind: a religion-less religion centered on individual awareness and responsibility and the teaching of “Zorba the Buddha,” a celebration of the whole human being. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.
