Book Shot Peening Sensitivity of Aluminum With Corrosion Preventive Coatings

Download or read book Shot Peening Sensitivity of Aluminum With Corrosion Preventive Coatings written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center Aviation Engineering Division (Huntsville, AL) requested that the U.S. Army Research Laboratory Weapons and Materials Research Directorate (Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD) execute a program aimed at evaluating the shot-peening sensitivity of 7075-T73 aluminum with U.S. Army corrosion-preventive coatings for aluminum. The coatings represent the two most common coatings for aviation aluminum alloys. The study was a follow-up to previous work that investigated shot-peening sensitivity on the base material. During that study, it was discovered that the aluminum alloy showed decreased fatigue strength when shot-peened at high Almen intensities. The present study focuses on the shot-peening interaction with the coatings. Both studies develop data to correlate surface roughness, x-ray diffraction residual stress analysis, and fatigue strength at a prescribed stress intensity, Kt = 1.75.

Book The Effect of Shot Peening on the Stress Corrosion Properties of Aluminum Alloy D T D 5054

Download or read book The Effect of Shot Peening on the Stress Corrosion Properties of Aluminum Alloy D T D 5054 written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress corrosion data have been obtained from shot peened specimens cut in the short transverse direction from an aluminum alloy extrusion to specification D.T.D. 5054. The specimens were prepared for test in three different ways to obtain three different residual macro stress systems, typical of the conditions in which the alloy is used in service; it has been shown that after shot peening, the stress-corrosion properties of each of the three groups of specimens have been improved to a marked extent. X-ray diffraction studies on the specimens have shown that for the particular intensity of employed, the resulting highly stressed compressive layer on the surface is of the order 0.006 in. thick and that all evidence of the pre-peening residual stress on the specimen surface has been obliterated. The residual stress measurements show that the balancing tensile stresses are distributed through the remainder of the section rather than concentrated in peak form immediately below the induced surface compression.

Book excerpt: The comprehensive resource for understanding the structure, properties, and applications of cyclodextrins Cyclodextrins: Properties and Industrial Applications is a comprehensive resource that includes information on cyclodextrins (CDs) structure, their properties, formation of inclusion complex with various compounds as well as their applications. The authors Sahar Amiri and Sanam Amiri, noted experts in the field of cyclodextrins, cover both the basic and applied science in chemistry, biology, and physics of CDs and offers scientists and engineers an understand of cyclodextrins. Cyclodextrins are a family of cyclic oligosaccharides consisting of (α-1,4)-linked α-D-glucopyranose units. The formation of inclusion complex between CDs as host and guest molecules is based on non-covalent interaction such as hydrogen bonding or van der waals interactions and lead to the formation of supramolecular structures. These supramolecular structures can be used as macroinitiator for initiating various type of reactions. CDs are widely used in many industrial products such as pharmacy, food and flavours, chemistry, chromatography, catalysis, biotechnology, agriculture, cosmetics, hygiene, medicine, textiles, drug delivery, packing, separation processes, environment protection, fermentation, and catalysis. This important resource: Offers a basic understanding of cyclodextrins for researchers and engineers Includes information of the basic structure of cyclodextrins and their properties Reviews how cyclodextrins can be applied in a variety of fields including medicine, chemistry, textiles, packing, and many others Shows how encapsulate corrosion inhibitors became active in corrosive electrolytes to ensure delivery of the inhibitors to corrosion sites and long-term corrosion protection Cyclodextrins offers research scientists and engineers a wealth of information about CDs with particular focus on how cyclodextrins are applied in various ways including in drug delivery, the food industry, and many other areas.
