Although the Lords Proprietors were committed to the policy of the established church, they did not attempt to erect the establishment until about 40 years after they received the charter. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Narrative and Documentary History of St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church (Formerly St. James) Of Waterbury, Connecticut While compiling a sketch of the Episcopal Church for the H is tory of the Town and City of Waterbury I became aware of material which would, or should, interest the present members of the church, but could hardly be properly used in the somewhat circumscribed limits of a town history. I had it in mind to use these materials at some future time in a fuller account, but multiplicity of duties and increasing years led to the postponement and finally to an abandonment of the plan. Of late, however, several requests that I would do this work, and the fact that, although I have grown no younger, I seem to be rather less pressed for time, have led me to make the attempt to carry out my former undertaking. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Annual Publication of the Historical Society of the North Carolina Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church, South These men were entirely unselfish in their ministry. They sent out no pioneers hunting golden placers, ran no lines of circumvallation, built no fortresses on rich alluvial sites, hung not around commercial centers waiting for goodly openings; but in the city and in the wilderness raised the cry: Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand. The charge that they were turning the world upside down never moved them. Mountains towered and rivers rolled in vain to stop them. They wrestled with floods of water, but neither floods of water nor floods of ungodly men made them afraid. They slept by camp-fires, saddles their pillows, the heavens their covering; explored forests, traversed sand hills, their dainties the homeliest fare, their theme Jesus and the Resurrection, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fifty Favored Years, a History of St. John's Baptist Church: On the Occasion of the Observance of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Church at Charlotte, North Carolina, March 26, 1972 The contents of these pages are referred to as a history. But they are not a complete history. Words could never tell the entire story of St. Johns. Of necessity the history refers primarily to ministers, other staff members and elected leaders. But the true history of St. John's has been written by the hundreds of persons who have served tirelessly as Sunday School teachers, as children's workers, as choir members, as meal servers at many dinner functions, as contributors of time and money. St. John's has been blessed by these faithful members and favored by God over its 50-year history. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Charles Pettigrew First Bishop Elect of the North Carolina Episcopal Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book Charles Pettigrew First Bishop Elect of the North Carolina Episcopal Church Classic Reprint written by Bennett H. Wall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Charles Pettigrew, First Bishop-Elect of the North Carolina Episcopal Church As soon as he received the news of his appointment, Pettigrew resigned his position in Bute County and moved to Edenton. He became a member of the Church of England about this time and obtained a position as lay reader of St. Paul's Church in Edenton. Since several members of the vestry of St. Paul's Parish were trustees of the academy, it is reasonable to assume that he had contacted these men and made known to them his desire to become a minister of the Church of England. Whether or not that View is correct, it is known that while occupying the positions of schoolmaster and lay reader he engaged in the studies expected of candidates for ordination in that church. In the spring of 1775 he sailed for London where he was duly ordained deacon and priest by the bishops of London and Rochester.
