But though I set to work at once, yet Thad so little time at my disposal that the Grammar progressed only very slowly. At the beginning of last year, when about two-thirds of the Phonology were written, I received the first number of Professor Wilmanns Deutsche Grammatik, which, though on a larger scale, proceeded on the same lines which I had marked out to myself.
