Book Handbook of Shock Waves Three Volume Set

Download or read book Handbook of Shock Waves Three Volume Set written by Gabi Ben-Dor and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-18 with total page 2188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Shock Waves contains a comprehensive, structured coverage of research topics related to shock wave phenomena including shock waves in gases, liquids, solids, and space. Shock waves represent an extremely important physical phenomena which appears to be of special practical importance in three major fields: compressible flow (aerodynamics), materials science, and astrophysics. Shock waves comprise a phenomenon that occurs when pressure builds to force a reaction, i.e. sonic boom that occurs when a jet breaks the speed of sound. This Handbook contains experimental, theoretical, and numerical results which never before appeared under one cover; the first handbook of its kind. The Handbook of Shock Waves is intended for researchers and engineers active in shock wave related fields. Additionally, R&D establishments, applied science & research laboratories and scientific and engineering libraries both in universities and government institutions. As well as, undergraduate and graduate students in fluid mechanics, gas dynamics, and physics. Key Features* Ben-Dor is known as one of the founders of the field of shock waves* Covers a broad spectrum of shock wave research topics* Provides a comprehensive description of various shock wave related subjects* First handbook ever to include under one separate cover: experimental, theoretical, and numerical results

Book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes written by Hans G Hornung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.

Book Riemann Solvers and Numerical Methods for Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Riemann Solvers and Numerical Methods for Fluid Dynamics written by Eleuterio F. Toro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1917, the British scientist L. F. Richardson made the first reported attempt to predict the weather by solving partial differential equations numerically, by hand! It is generally accepted that Richardson's work, though unsuccess ful, marked the beginning of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), a large branch of Scientific Computing today. His work had the four distinguishing characteristics of CFD: a PRACTICAL PROBLEM to solve, a MATHEMATICAL MODEL to represent the problem in the form of a set of partial differen tial equations, a NUMERICAL METHOD and a COMPUTER, human beings in Richardson's case. Eighty years on and these four elements remain the pillars of modern CFD. It is therefore not surprising that the generally accepted definition of CFD as the science of computing numerical solutions to Partial Differential or Integral Equations that are models for fluid flow phenomena, closely embodies Richardson's work. COMPUTERS have, since Richardson's era, developed to unprecedented levels and at an ever decreasing cost. PRACTICAL PROBLEMS to solved nu merically have increased dramatically. In addition to the traditional demands from Meteorology, Oceanography, some branches of Physics and from a range of Engineering Disciplines, there are at present fresh demands from a dynamic and fast-moving manufacturing industry, whose traditional build-test-fix approach is rapidly being replaced by the use of quantitative methods, at all levels. The need for new materials and for decision-making under envi ronmental constraints are increasing sources of demands for mathematical modelling, numerical algorithms and high-performance computing.

Book Inertial Confinement Fusion Driven Thermonuclear Energy

Download or read book Inertial Confinement Fusion Driven Thermonuclear Energy written by Bahman Zohuri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a holistic approach to plasma physics and controlled fusion via Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) techniques, establishing a new standard for clean nuclear power generation. Inertial Confinement Fusion techniques to enable laser-driven fusion have long been confined to the black-box of government classification due to related research on thermonuclear weapons applications. This book is therefore the first of its kind to explain the physics, mathematics and methods behind the implosion of the Nd-Glass tiny balloon (pellet), using reliable and thoroughly referenced data sources. The associated computer code and numerical analysis are included in the book. No prior knowledge of Laser Driven Fusion and no more than basic background in plasma physics is required.
