Book Experimental and Kinetic Modeling Study of Cyclohexane and Its Mono alkylated Derivatives Combustion

Download or read book Experimental and Kinetic Modeling Study of Cyclohexane and Its Mono alkylated Derivatives Combustion written by Zhandong Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates the combustion chemistry of cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, and ethylcyclohexane on the basis of state-of-the-art synchrotron radiation photoionization mass spectrometry experiments, quantum chemistry calculations, and extensive kinetic modeling. It explores the initial decomposition mechanism and distribution of the intermediates, proposes a novel formation mechanism of aromatics, and develops a detailed kinetic model to predict the three cycloalkanes’ combustion properties under a wide range of conditions. Accordingly, the thesis provides an essential basis for studying much more complex cycloalkanes in transport fuels and has applications in engine and fuel design, as well as emission control.

Book High Temperature Shock Tube Ignition Studies of CO2 2 Diluted Mixtures

Download or read book High Temperature Shock Tube Ignition Studies of CO2 2 Diluted Mixtures written by Owen Marcus Pryor and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data for ignition delay times and species time-histories (CH4) were obtained in mixtures diluted with CO2. Experiments were performed behind reflected shockwaves from temperatures of 1200 to 2000 K for pressures ranging from 1 to 11 atm. Ignition times were obtained from emission and laser absorption measurements. Current experimental data were compared with the predictions of detailed chemical kinetic models (available from literature) that will allow for accurate design and modeling of combustion systems.

Research was conducted in four Stanford shock tube facilities and focused on the following topics: (1) development of the aerosol shock tube; (2) ignition delay time measurements of gaseous jet fuels (JP-8 and Jet-A) and surrogate components at high pressures and low temperatures; (3) laser absorption measurements of species time-histories for OH radicals and alkanes; (4) ignition delay times of n-dodecane, jet fuel and diesel using the aerosol shock tube technique; and (5) improving shock tube performance and modeling.

Book Shock Tube Studies of the Effects of Sharp rising Long duration Overpressures on Biological Systems

Download or read book Shock Tube Studies of the Effects of Sharp rising Long duration Overpressures on Biological Systems written by V. C. Goldizen and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock tubes have been used successfully by a number of investigators to study the biological effects of variations in environmental pressures (1,2,3). Recently an unusually versatile laboratory pressurization source became available with the capability of consistently reproducing a wide variety of pressure-time phenomena of durations equal to and well beyond those associated with the detonation of nuclear devices (4). Thus it became possible to supplement costly full-scale field research in blast biology carried out at the Nevada Test Site (5,6) by using an economical yet realistic laboratory tool. In one exploratory study employing pressure pulses of 5 to 10 sec duration wherein the times to max overpressure and the magnitudes of the overpressures were varied, a relatively high tolerance of biological media to pressures well over 150 psi was demonstrated (7). In contrast, the present paper will describe the relatively high biological susceptibility to long duration overpressures in which the pressure rises occurred in single and double fast-rising steps.

Book A Shock Tube and Diagnostics for Surface Effects at Elevated Pressures with Applications to Methane ammonia Ignition

Download or read book A Shock Tube and Diagnostics for Surface Effects at Elevated Pressures with Applications to Methane ammonia Ignition written by Justin Urso and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing energy demands, and the subsequent need for cleaner energy conversion to combat climate change, creates a challenge that requires both short- and long-term solutions. To that end, new energy conversion cycles such as the Allam-Fetvedt cycle uses the combustion products (CO2) as the working fluid to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. There are several challenges regarding the implementation of these cycles, namely the extreme combustor conditions required (approximately 300 bar). The new High Pressure, Extended Range Shock Tube for Advanced Research (HiPER-STAR) was designed, built, and characterized to study combustion at these conditions to aid in the development of these sCO2 systems, among other extreme environments such as rocket chamber conditions. Further, development of chemical kinetics models used to predict combustion in these conditions typically assume reactions only in the homogeneous bulk gas region, while in these systems there are stagnation regions where hot gases are in contact with a heated wall for extended durations. Heterogeneous reactions are historically difficult to study, as typically there are coupled gas dynamic and transport-related complications that affect the reactions. A shock tube is an ideal location to mitigate and decouple these effects. The current work explores reactive and non-reactive end wall effects at high pressure, an area of interest for implementation by industry and resultantly where better efficiency can be achieved. Further designs have been completed and fabrication is underway to improve the capabilities of the facility to better decouple thermal wall effects and catalytic surface effects, as well as improve other combustion diagnostic capabilities of the facility.

Book Shock Tube Investigation of Pressure and Ion Sensors Used in Pulse Detonation Engine Research

Download or read book Shock Tube Investigation of Pressure and Ion Sensors Used in Pulse Detonation Engine Research written by Robert J. McMillan and published by . This book was released on 2004-06 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock tubes utilize a difference in pressures between gases separated by a diaphragm to create a shock wave when the diaphragm ruptures. The AFIT 2- inch shock tube was reassembled and tested to ensure proper and safe operation. A high-speed data acquisition system was configured to take data at 2 MS/s. This research showed that the Mach number of the shock waves produced in this shQCk tube fall within 7% of theoretical values at speeds under Mach 3 and within 9% at higher speeds. The peak velocity of each shock wave was shown to occur at approximately 3 meters from the diaphragm. The second portion of the research focused on the testing of sensors used to evaluate the performance of the pulse detonation engine (PDE) for research and developmental purposes. Two alternatives were developed to standard sensors to withstand the heat of the engine: coat the sensors with an insulating, 0.6 mm thick silicone that protects it from the heat and use spark plugs as ion sensors to detect the ions in the combustion inside the PDE tubes. This researched proved that no degradation in response time, rise time, or sensitivity results from coating the pressure transducers with silicone. The research also found that the ion sensors are unable to consistently detect ions created by a Mach 8 shock wave through air.

Book Shock Tube Measurements for Liquid Fuels Combustion

Download or read book Shock Tube Measurements for Liquid Fuels Combustion written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report results of basic research aimed at improving knowledge of the combustion behavior of diesel and jet-related fuels.
