Download or read book Shock Tube Determination of the Drag Coefficient of Small Spherical Particles written by Bruce P. Selberg and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was conducted to determine the drag coefficient of inert spherical particles accelerating in a laminar, non-reacting, incompressible continuum flow. The Reynolds number range which was covered in the study was from 150 to 1700, and particle sizes ranged from 150 microbar to 450 microbar. The convective flow behind the shock wave in a shock tube was used to accelerate the particles. The particle's diameter and the displacement versus time measurements were obtained using a rotating drum camera in conjunction with an oscillating light source. The photographic data, the particle density, the shock speed, and the initial pressure and temperature in conjunction with the normal shock relations were combined to calculate the drag coefficient. The drag coefficient is usually considered to be a function only of Reynolds number and acceleration modulus, however, C(sub D) varies considerably because of particle roughness. Experiments with HP 295 ball powder, whose surface is relatively rough, produced results which were as much as 85 per cent higher than the steady state curve, with the increase dependent upon the relative Mach number of the flow about the particle. Similar drag coefficient experiments with smooth sapphire balls did not produce the scatter, the higher values, nor the dependence on relative Mach number.

Download or read book Frontiers of Shock Wave Research written by Kazuyoshi Takayama and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains 12 chapters written by well-known shock wave researchers from seven different countries. Each researcher provides a brief description of his main research interests and results, thereby providing the readers with an excellent view of shock wave research conducted in the past fifty years. It also provides hints as to what still needs further investigation. It will be an excellent guide for young researchers entering the field of shock wave phenomena. Among the described investigations are the following topics: Blast wave interaction with a body when the body is in the area of interference of two blast waves moving in different directions; equation of state for water based on the shock Hugoniot data; Mach waves occurring over a backward facing edge in supersonic flow; shock waves in dusty gas; shock wave interaction with various bodies; three shock interactions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 24th International Symposium on Shock Waves (ISSW24) was held at the Beijing Friendship Hotel during July 11-16, 2004, in Beijing. It was a great pleasure for the Local Organizing Committee to organize the ISSW in China for the first time, because forty-seven years have passed since the First Shock Tube Symposium was held in 1957 at Albuquerque. The ISSW24 had to be postponed for one year because of the SARS outbreak in Beijing shortly before the Symposium was scheduled to be held in 2003, but it has achieved success due to the continuous support and kind understanding from all the delegates. It is very heart-warming to have had such an experience and I am very happy to have served as chairman for the Symposium. I would like to thank all for the contributions and help that they have given us over the past three years, without which we would not have had the Symposium. A total of 460 abstracts were submitted to the ISSW24. Each of the abstracts was evaluated by three members of the Scientific Review Committee and the decision on acceptance wasmade based on the reviewers' reports. 195oral papers, including 9plenary lectures, wereaccepted to be presented in three parallel sessions, and 135poster papers in three dedicated poster sessions. Topics discussed in these papers cover all aspects ofshock wave research.

Book excerpt: Recently, there have been significant advances in the fields of high-enthalpy hypersonic flows, high-temperature gas physics, and chemistry shock propagation in various media, industrial and medical applications of shock waves, and shock-tube technology. This series contains all the papers and lectures of the 19th International Symposium on Shock Waves held in Marseille in 1993. They are published in four topical volumes, each containing papers on related topics, and preceded by an overview wrtitten by a leading international expert. The volumes may be purchased independently.

Download or read book Fundamentals of Gas particle Flow written by George Rudinger and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Gas-Particle Flow is an edited, updated, and expanded version of a number of lectures presented on the Gas-Solid Suspensions course organized by the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics. Materials presented in this book are mostly analytical in nature, but some experimental techniques are included. The book focuses on relaxation processes, including the viscous drag of single particles, drag in gas-particles flow, gas-particle heat transfer, equilibrium, and frozen flow. It also discusses the dynamics of single particles, such as particles in an arbitrary flow, in a rotating gas, in a Prandtl-Meyer expansion, and in an oscillating flow. The remaining chapters of the book deal with the thermodynamics of gas-particle mixtures, steady flow through ducts, pressure waves, gas-particle jets, boundary layer, and momentum transfer. The experimental techniques included in this book present the powder feeders, the instrumentation on particle flow rate, velocity, concentration and temperature, and the measurement of the particle drag coefficient in a shock tube.
