Book Shock Spectra Measurements Using Multiple Mechanical Gages

Download or read book Shock Spectra Measurements Using Multiple Mechanical Gages written by V. F. DeVost and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance and characteristics of a family of oscillatory and nonoscillatory mechanical gages, used to measure shock spectrally, are discussed. The gages are simple, self-recording, mass-spring devices ranging in natural frequency from 12 Hz to 18.1 kHz. Response of the gages to simple and complex shocks is compared with analog responses to the same shocks. The use of a number of mechanical gages to measure shock significantly minimizes individual gage error and defines spectra of shock accurately enough to estimate some of the critical parameters and characteristics of shock. Book The Science and Engineering of Mechanical Shock

Download or read book The Science and Engineering of Mechanical Shock written by Carl Sisemore and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-08 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills a unique position in the literature as a dedicated mechanical shock analysis book. Because shock events can be extremely damaging, mechanical shock is an important topic for engineers to understand. This book provides the reader with the tools needed to quantitatively describe shock environments and their damage potential on aerospace, civil, naval and mechanical systems. The authors include the relevant history of how shock testing and analysis came to its current state and a discussion of the different types of shock environments typically experienced by systems. Development of single-degree-of-freedom theory and the theory of the shock response spectra are covered, consistent with treatment of shock spectra theory in the literature. What is unique is the expansion to other types of spectra including less common types of shock spectra and energy spectra methods using fundamental principles of structural dynamics. In addition, non-spectral methods are discussed with their applications. Non-spectral methods are almost completely absent from the current books on mechanical shock. Multi-degree-of-freedom shock spectra and multi-degree-of-freedom testing are discussed and the theory is developed. Addressing an emerging field for laboratory shock testing, the authors bring together information currently available only in journals and conference publications. The volume is ideal for engineers, structural designers, and structural materials fabricators needing a foundation to practically analyze shock environments and understand their role in structural design.

Book Shock Spectrum Measurements

Download or read book Shock Spectrum Measurements written by M. V. Barton and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve reed gages were installed for horizontal and vertical displacement shock spectrum measurements on the GNOME event. Seven of the 12 reed gages were placed on the earth's surface at various ranges from surface zero. Four of the gages were placed in the GNOME tunnel. One gage was placed in the International MineralsAND Chemical Corporation Mine (Shaft No. 4) approximately nine miles from the GNOME site. Usable data were obtained from nine of the 10 records recovered to date. The gage in the IMC mine recorded no displacements. Records from the gages in tunnel nearest zero were not recovered. Book Shock Spectrum Measurements

Download or read book Shock Spectrum Measurements written by Frank W. Galbraith and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ground shock spectrum measurements were made for the Prairie Flat 500-ton HE test and for the associated HEST test using mechanical reed gages. These tests were conducted at the Defence Research Establishment Suffield at Ralston, Alberta, Canada, and were sponsored by the Defense Atomic Support Agency. A total of 33 gages were used for the 500-ton test. Of these, 22 were in the free-field soil at ranges having overpressures of 840 (expected 1000), 600, and 300 psi and were oriented to measure vertical, horizontal-radial, and horizontal-transverse ground shock at the surface and at depths of 5 and 10 feet. The remaining 11 gages were in three model structures at overpressures of 600, 450, and 300 psi and were oriented vertically and horizontal-radially. The results of the 500-ton test indicated greater than expected ground shock. The model structures responded about as the free field at their mid-depths except for resonances peculiar to the structures themselves. The 500-ton free-field ground shock was somewhat greater than that from the HEST test especially in the horizontal direction. The spectra measured within the structures for the HEST and 500-ton tests were quite similar. (Author).

This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book Effect of Measurement System Phase Response on Shock Spectrum Computation

Download or read book Effect of Measurement System Phase Response on Shock Spectrum Computation written by P. L. Walter and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the standard methods for characterizing mechanical shock is by means of the shock spectrum. The principal application of the shock spectrum in aerospace technology is to permit component shock test specifications to be generated, independent of specific time histories. Inattention to the dynamics of the instrumentation system used to measure mechanical shock can result in distorted test data. Erroneous component test specifications will originate from shock spectra calculations based on these distorted data. This documents' premise is that measurement system design is frequently based upon amplitude response considerations with phase response ignored. In structural testing nonlinear phase response in measurement systems results in distorted transient data being recorded for analysis with resultant error in the computed shock spectra. Design guidelines are provided in this work to preclude these errors from occuring.
