Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ignition of heptane in mixtures containing oxygen and argon was studied behind reflected shock waves in 56 mm i.d. and 26 mm i.d. single-pulse shock tubes. Book Product Distribution and Induction Times in the Shock Initiated Ignition of Cyanogen Oxygen Argon Mixtures

Download or read book Product Distribution and Induction Times in the Shock Initiated Ignition of Cyanogen Oxygen Argon Mixtures written by Davy M. Bass and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixtures of cyanogen and oxygen diluted in argon were ignited behind reflected shocks in a single-pulse shock tube. The ignition delay times were determined from pressure observations. The experiments covered the temperature range 1400 K to 2000 K. This range permitted ignition delay times from 15 to 430 microseconds. Eight mixture groups and their initial conditions were chosen in such a manner that the influence of each particular parameter on the induction period would be unequivocally evaluated. The resulting equation for induction time was determined. Product distribution before and after ignition was determined by mass spectroscopy. Results indicated that the combustion of cyanogen is thermodynamically controlled. Hydrogen lowers activation energy and shortens induction time. This indicates that with the addition of H2 a chain branching mechanism becomes rate controlling. Modified author abstract).

Book Shock Initiated Ignition of Ethane Oxygen Argon Mixtures

Download or read book Shock Initiated Ignition of Ethane Oxygen Argon Mixtures written by Alexander Burcat and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed study was made of ignition delay times in ethane-oxygen-argon mixtures behind a reflected shock wave as indicated by pressure and light emission observation. Measured induction times ranged from 20-600 microsec over a temperature interval of 1235 - 1660K and associated pressures of from 2-8 atm. To elucidate composition effects, the equivalence ratio of the test mixture were varied from 0.5 - 2.0 in approximately 95% dilution with argon. (Author).

Book Shock Tube Investigation of Ignition in Propane Oxygen Argon Mixtures

Download or read book Shock Tube Investigation of Ignition in Propane Oxygen Argon Mixtures written by Karl Scheller and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ignition of propane-oxygen mixtures highly diluted with argon has been examined in the region behind a reflected shock wave in a single pulse shock tube. The measurements covered a temperature range of 1250-1600K at pressures varying from 2 to 10 atmospheres for mixture equivalence ratios of 0.125 to 2.0. For these conditions, observed induction times ranged from 12 to 600 microseconds. In one series of tests on a stoichiometric mixture, analyses were made of the shocked gas just prior to and immediately after ignition. These revealed that extensive pyrolysis of the propane preceded ignition. Mixture compositions and test conditions in this investigation were selected in such a manner that the influence of significant parameters on the ignition delay times could be clearly delineated. It was found that the experimental results of more than 150 tests were well correlated. (Author).

Book Weak and Strong Ignition I Numerical Simulations of Shock Tube Experiments

Download or read book Weak and Strong Ignition I Numerical Simulations of Shock Tube Experiments written by E. S. Oran and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed one-dimensional calculations have been performed to simulate weak and strong ignition in reflected shock tube experiments in hydrogen-oxygen-argon mixtures. It is found that the experiment and simulations agree well in the strong ignition case studied. In the weak ignition case, the simulations show the same qualitative behavior as the experiment. Here ignition starts at a distance away from the reflecting wall at a time much earlier than the calculated chemical induction time. This latter effect is shown to arise because of the sensitivity of the chemical induction time to fluctuations in the calculation. In the calculations these fluctuations arise from small numerical inaccuracies. In experiments, they can arise from a number of sources including nonuniformities in the incident shock wave leading to non-uniform reflection, thermal conduction to the walls, and interactions with boundary layers. Book Ignition Delay Times of Propene Oxygen Argon Mixtures

Download or read book Ignition Delay Times of Propene Oxygen Argon Mixtures written by Alexander Burcat and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ignition times of Propene Oxygen Argon mixtures were measured in a shock tube. The concentrations ranged from 0.6% to 1.6% C3H6 and 2.7% to 14.4% oxygen. The initial pressures were 50 to 133 torr, and the temperatures achieved were 1274-1848 K. The overall ignition delay equation for Propene Oxygen Argon mixtures has a value of tau = 5.3 x 10 to the minus 14th power exp((37.5 x 10 to 3rd power)/RT)(C3H6) 0.23 (O2) -1.12 (Ar)0 sec. A kinetic scheme for the oxidation of propene is proposed.
