Book Ship to shore Interface Analysis

Download or read book Ship to shore Interface Analysis written by Chryssostomos Chryssostomidis and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report's basic task is that of developing the mathematical model simulating the following cargo unloading procedure. The cargo is to be unloaded from a ship at some distance from the shore. The final destination of the cargo is to be at a point on the beach where no port facilities are available. The transferring of cargo from the ship to the transfer vehicles is to be accomplished by ship-based unloading gear, such as ship-based cranes. The cargo transfer from the transfer vehicles on the shore is to be accomplished by beach-based unloading gear, such as fork lifts. The simulation enables the user to gain insight into the unloading procedure and thus to derive correctly the optimal use strategy of the ship-to-shore transfer operations, which is the ultimate goal of the present analysis. Book Ship to Shore Interface Analysis by Digital Simulation

Download or read book Ship to Shore Interface Analysis by Digital Simulation written by Chryssostomos Chryssostomidis and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two tasks were considered. First was the development of the mathematical model simulating a cargo transportation interface in which the cargo is to be transported from a ship moored at some distance from the shore to point A on a beach where no port facilities are available. The transfer of cargo from the ship to the transfer vehicles is by ship-based unloading gear. The cargo transfer from the transfer vehicles at the shore is by beach-based unloading gear. The second was the selection of the solution method that would permit the analysis of such a mathematical model. Importance was attached to the condition that the solution method should enable the user to gain an insight into the unloading procedure and thence correctly derive the optimum use strategies. Computer digital simulation was chosen because it provides the necessary insight and also allows the user to solve the problem without needing drastic simplifications of the mathematical model, as required by known optimization techniques. For further usefulness, the concept of antithetic variance was introduced into the solution procedure. Since digital simulation is employed as the solution method in almost all congestion problems, it follows that antithetic variance may also be used profitably in models other than the one in this study. Guidelines for the user have therefore been included. (Author).

Book Energy Policy Analysis A Conceptual Framework

Download or read book Energy Policy Analysis A Conceptual Framework written by Michael S. Hamilton and published by M.E. Sharpe. This book was released on 2015-05-18 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented in nontechnical terms, this book offers a unique and powerful conceptual framework for analysis of energy technologies (standard and alternative) in terms of their respective dollar costs, environmental costs, and national security costs. Energy technologies examined include coal, nuclear, oil, natural gas, solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, biomass and biogas, energy conservation and efficiency, ocean power, hydrogen, electric power and transmission, and transportation. This three-point framework allows examination of issues and problems associated with implementation of U.S. energy policies in the context of major social goals (such as growth and equity), with treatment of conflicts and trade-offs between energy development and other social values (such as health and safety, cultural, historical, and aesthetic values). These are the key political issues for policy makers formulating national energy policy and decisions makers implementing it.

The overall theme of the seventh international conference on risk analysis and crisis response is Risk Analysis Based on Data and Crisis Response Beyond Knowledge, highlighting science and technology to improve risk analysis capabilities and to optimize crisis response strategy. This book contains primarily research articles of risk issues. Underlying topics include natural hazards and major (chemical) accidents prevention, disaster risk reduction and society resilience, information and communication technologies safety and cybersecurity, modern trends in crisis management, energy and resources security, critical infrastructure, nanotechnology safety and others. All topics include aspects of multidisciplinarity and complexity of safety in education and research. The book should be valuable to professors, engineers, officials, businessmen and graduate students in risk analysis and risk management.

Book Clean Ships Clean Ports Clean Oceans

Download or read book Clean Ships Clean Ports Clean Oceans written by Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-10-06 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine debris is a serious environmental problem. To do its part, the United States has agreed to abide by the international treaty for garbage control at sea, known as MARPOL 73/78 Annex V. Clean Ships, Clean Ports, Clean Oceans explores the challenge of translating Annex V into workable laws and regulations for all kinds of ships and boats, from cruise ships to fishing crafts and recreational boats. The volume examines how existing resources can be leveraged into a comprehensive strategy for compliance, including integrated waste management systems and effective enforcement. Clean Ships, Clean Ports, Clean Oceans describes both progress toward and obstacles to Annex V compliance. The book covers: How shipborne garbage orignates and what happens to garbage discharged into the seas. Effects of discharge on human health, wildlife safety, and aesthetics. Differences in perspective among military, industrial, and recreational seafarers and shoreside facilities. Clean Ships, Clean Ports, Clean Oceans will be important to marine policymakers, port administrators, ship operations officers, maritime engineers, and marine ecologists.

Book Measurement Methods in the Operation of Ships and Offshore Facilities

Download or read book Measurement Methods in the Operation of Ships and Offshore Facilities written by Leszek Chybowski and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-10-29 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of modern measurement methods for ship systems results from economic changes and increasingly stringent environmental requirements. Additionally, the specificity of ship systems and the conditions in which they work lead to very restrictive requirements for the reliability and accuracy of measuring systems on ships and offshore facilities. This collection presents the results of research related to the development of modern systems on ships and offshore facilities, with a particular focus on the measurement and assessment of processes occurring in ship propulsion systems, ship navigation systems, maritime communications, maritime safety and alarm systems, marine cargo-handling equipment, offshore technological systems, etc. This book addresses all types of sensors and measurement systems designed for ships and offshore facilities.

Download or read book Sea Basing written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-08-14 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The availability of land bases from which to launch and maintain military, diplomatic, and humanitarian relief operations is becoming increasingly uncertain because of physical or political constraints. The ability to operate from a sea base, therefore, is likely to become more and more important. The Defense Science Board recently concluded that Sea Basing will be a critical future joint military capability and that DOD should proceed to develop such capability. Following the DSB report, the Navy requested that the National Research Council (NRC) convene a workshop to assess the science and technology base, both inside and outside the Navy, for developing Sea Basing and to identify R&D for supporting future concepts. This report of the workshop includes an examination of Sea Basing operational concepts; ship and aircraft technology available to make Sea Basing work; and issues involved in creating the sea base as a joint system of systems.
