Book You Re Not My Real Dad

Download or read book You Re Not My Real Dad written by Rich Reeder and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-10-17 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years and years of fighting, arguing, drug over doses and suicide threats we had no idea of how we could make it through the next day. We were being held hostage by my 19 year old step daughter who would threaten to kill herself if she didn’t get what she wanted. We couldn’t just give into her nor could we not take her threats seriously. In the midst of yet another argument, she played the “I’ll kill myself” card again. Being beyond the point of extreme frustration and hopelessness, I got up and walked calmly to our closet returning with my gun. I placed the gun in her lap, looked into her eyes and said, “Go ahead, just do it”. I promised her we would give her a nice funeral and take good care of her remains. I then said “just do it or shut up about it”. She paused for a few moments and looked at the gun. We were a normal middle class family living in the suburbs trying to have a regular life like anyone else. With years and years of fighting and battling, a normal life is one we didn’t know would ever be possible. I was first a married guy without kids then a step dad and eventually a father. I have seen the effects of divorce from many angles and the toll it takes on entire families and the kids. I saw it in my own home in ways I would never have believed. Mix in some mental issues and it was a raging battle. Having experienced all that, I want to encourage families to think hard about what a family breakup can do to the family at large. My hope is that sharing my experiences might help families stick it out and reap the blessing of not having given up.

Book My Charmed Life

Download or read book My Charmed Life written by Beth Bernstein and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-07-03 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Beth Bernstein’s mother unexpectedly passed away, Beth’s life was forever changed, as she knew that she’d lost not only her best friend, but also a big part of herself. In this heartwarming and moving memoir, Beth learns how to link together the platinum memories of the jewelry handed down to her by the woman who taught her how to love, overcome obstacles, and (most important) accessorize. As a young girl, Beth learned that not all engagements came with a ring. The unconventional engagement watch Beth’s father gave her mother, her mom’s postdivorce transformation from wearing Jackie O pearls to donning love beads--each piece of jewelry represents an intimate memory, a reminder to rise above life’s challenges and enjoy its triumphs. And there are also Beth’s own experiences with rocky romances, of the too many engagement rings she fell in love with and the too few men who could commit. She tells the story of these relationships with sparkles of hilarity and glimmers of hope, conjuring up lost keepsakes and fiery moments--until she realizes that the brightest gems are the ones you give yourself, and finds freedom she never thought possible.

Book The Playwright s Manifesto

Download or read book The Playwright s Manifesto written by Paul Sirett and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-09-08 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A manifesto for the future of playwriting, this book challenges you to be a part of that future in the belief that it is fundamentally important to write plays. Plays help us understand ourselves, others, and the world around us. Reading this book, you will be challenged to learn your craft, explode what you know, prioritise what is important to you, and write in the way that only you can write. Most books on playwriting explain how to create a believable character in a story driven by plot. This book, however, goes even further in its exploration of the playwright's most valuable tool: theatricality. By learning from the past, and the present, the playwrights of tomorrow can create new, vivid, theatrical drama for the future. This manifesto also examines the process of writing, the art of collaboration, and the impact of writing on a playwright's mental health. It identifies the highs and lows, as well as the trials and tribulations, of life as a playwright in today's world. Theatre is a living artform. It is time for playwrights to acknowledge that fact and to celebrate the unique, primal thrill that a live theatre experience offers us. The future of playwriting is in your hands. Do you accept the challenge?
