Book excerpt: The final book from the world's favourite medium, who died in 2002, contains 101 original poems about life and commentaries on each one.Betty Shine died in March 2002 of heart failure, a bitter irony for a woman who spoke from the heart and devoted much of her life to healing others.Having spent the last decade of her life committing her thoughts and tales of her incredible experiences to paper in 11 popular and often best-selling books, Betty began experimenting with a new outlet for her unique philosophy of life -- poetry. Though she had written heartfelt poems for many years, it was only in her last year that it was finally being recognized as being really special, when she began getting interest from professional record producers about setting some to music and turning a number of the verses into lyrics. It seemed that the musical instincts Betty had honed as a professional opera singer were showing themselves quite unwittingly in the way she wrote poetry. This final book from Betty Shine collects together 101 of her poems, and is introduced by her daughter, Janet, who worked closely with Betty and has inherited many of her amazing psychic gifts. Janet provides a short introduct

Book When You Can t Believe Your Eyes

Download or read book When You Can t Believe Your Eyes written by Hannah Fairbairn and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was first projected in 2004, when Author Hannah Fairbairn was teaching interpersonal skills at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, Massachusetts. The experiences of her adult students—and her own experience of sight lost—convinced her that everyone losing vision needs access to good information about the process of adjustment to losing sight and practical ways to use assertive speech. When You Can’t Believe Your Eyes is intended for anyone going through vision loss, their friends, and families. It will inform readers how to get expert professional help, face the trauma of loss, and navigate the world using speech more than sight. Each of the twelve chapters in the book contain many short sections and bullet-point lists, intended to facilitate access to the right information. It begins where you begin—at the doctor’s office or the hospital. Since vision loss takes many forms, there are suggestions for questions you might ask to get a clear diagnosis and the best treatment. Part One also has a description of legal blindness and possible prevention, advice about your job, and tips for life at home. Part Two is about believing in yourself as you deal with the loss, the anger, and the fear before you come up for air and consider training. Parts Three and Four describe using assertive speech and action in all kinds of settings as your independence and confidence increase. Part Five gives detailed information about everything from dating, and caring for babies to senior living, volunteering, and retaining your job. It is hoped that by reading and trying out the suggestions, the reader will recover full confidence, become a positive, assertive communicator, and lead a satisfying life. Because vision loss happens mostly in older years, the book is written with seniors particularly in mind. Professionals will also find it to be a useful resource for their patients.

Book excerpt: Let’s be honest, the life you lead isn’t what you’ve always dreamt. And maybe the person you’ve become isn’t who you’ve always imagined. Sure, you can clean it up. You can work longer, love harder, and eat better. You can scrub the surface of your life until it gleams and still never address the fact that somehow you lost sight of who you really are and what you’re living for. Is this the life you were meant to live? As the child of Nigerian immigrants in the UK, author and speaker Jo Saxton knows firsthand how quickly the world can cause us to doubt our dreams and question who we are. She understands how easily we can exchange our true child-of-God selves for an identity built on lies, guilt, and brokenness. In this powerful book, Jo examines Biblical figures and shares her personal story as she invites you to turn to the One who knows you intimately and loves you deeply. He sees all you’ve struggled to hide. He hears the voice inside you that others have silenced. He knows the potential and purpose that no one valued. He longs to redeem the story of your life and set you on the path to reclaim The Dream of You. Are you ready?

  • Pages : 107 pages

Download or read book Shine written by Dianne Lofton and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-06-06 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shine is a collection of true short stories of miracles that will amaze you—the power of God that resurrected the dead; the hospital renaming my husband, Lazarus; healing prayers and laying on of hands that cause cancer, disease, and demons to flee; foretold visions of my future, who to marry, my wedding, the birth of my daughter, the church my husband would pastor, and the call of prosperity that would come into fruition. This book was written to motivate the reader to trust the abilities that God Almighty has carefully placed in each of us, individually, to carry out, to accomplish a well-purpose plan, a destiny to edify his body of believers. Shine addresses our dream life and the interpretation thereof, details, facts that can forecast events, and pave a straight path for our future. 1 Corinthians 2:12, "Now we have not received the Spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." It also speaks of obedience to the Holy Spirit, that Still Small Voice of the Lord, that gives guidance and instruction in times of trouble and everyday success for your life. Each time, I would find myself in the Word of God to know whether I was in his perfect will or his permissive will. This book will cause you to compare what you have gone through, cause you to laugh out loud at me, yourself, and perhaps bring a tear to your eyes. It will cause you to look up to the Heavens and say, "Thank you, God, for the smaller cross you have given me to bear." It will cause you to be a more grateful child for the good times and the rescue times. I pray that a special blessing be granted to you for touching this book, purchasing this book, reading the miracles of this book, and experiencing the power of God through this book. Oh, taste and see—God is good. Arise, shine (Isaiah 60:1a).

Download or read book Shine On written by David Ditchfield and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-26 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across thousands of years, people have described one of the most astonishing of all human phenomena: the near-death experience (NDE), the subjective experience of an Afterlife, a place where we apparently survive death. The more powerful the NDE, the more profound the after effects. The ambitious reset their priorities. Atheists change their values. Doctors rethink their beliefs. But what if the after effects of an NDE were undeniable? What if someone suddenly developed the ability to produce high quality paintings of their NDE, a new-found skill that went far beyond the artistic ability they had before? And what if that same person then suddenly acquired the ability to compose classical symphonies after their NDE? And their symphonies were then premiered at sell out orchestral concerts, even though, to this day, they are unable to read or write a single note of musical notation. Wouldn't this be proof that even a cynic would have a hard time explaining? After his NDE, this is exactly what happened to David. And this is his story.

Book Visions of Heaven and Hell

Download or read book Visions of Heaven and Hell written by John Bunyan and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers,. This book was released on 2007-02 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the wicked have traveled a course of sin, and discover they have reason to fear the God;s judgement and wrath for their sins, they begin to wish there is no God to punish them, then by degrees they persuade themselves there is no God, and then they set themselves to study the arguments to support their opinion. This excellent book by John Bunyan covers the subject matter of the existence of heaven and hell as well as studies and dispells the arguments presented by sinners who argue there is no heaven and hell. Most do not know that Bunyan wrote some 60 books, and poetry too. And also almost a well-kept secret is that his doctrine was so biblically laced that many good men would call him too severe. He believed in, and taught, ALL the doctrines of grace, including double-predestination, or reprobation. Why then is he not smeared with the name of hyper-Calvinist like Goodwin, Gill, and others? I guess the same people ought to call Luther a hyper-Lutheran, for he believed and taught it, too. Why begin a review of Bunyan's writings with such a view of his doctrine? It is to show that a Pilgrim's Progress can come only from someone who believes and teaches ALL the counsel of God, without flinching, yea, with loving-kindness. Illegally, He sat in a jail cell over a river for 12 years with his Bible, Galatians by Luther, and another book or two. He had the choice of feeling miserable and murmuring, or of filling his time, thoughts, and energies with studying that Bible, and seeking a way to be of help to his more comfortable, but less dedicated, brothers and sisters. Listen, dear saints, you can't do any better than reading Bunyan. Like Gurnall, he covers everything here and there, and with a sweetness that can come only from God. What a shame that his large heart should be encased in such small print. But, like digging gold, it is worth the time and trouble to dig spiritual gold. Bunyan (1628-1688) rose from an humble beginning to being a preacher to a little house church, to 12 years in jail because he would not agree to quit preaching, to a huge church in London. He wrote 66 books, nearly all while in jail.

Book All Things Shining

  • Author : Hubert Dreyfus
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster

  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book All Things Shining written by Hubert Dreyfus and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In unrelenting flow of choices confronts us at nearly every moment of our lives, and yet our culture offers us no clear way to choose. This predicament seems inevitable, but in fact it’s quite new. In medieval Europe, God’s calling was a grounding force. In ancient Greece, a whole pantheon of shining gods stood ready to draw an appropriate action out of you. Like an athlete in “the zone,” you were called to a harmonious attunement with the world, so absorbed in it that you couldn’t make a “wrong” choice. If our culture no longer takes for granted a belief in God, can we nevertheless get in touch with the Homeric moods of wonder and gratitude, and be guided by the meanings they reveal? All Things Shining says we can. Hubert Dreyfus and Sean Dorrance Kelly illuminate some of the greatest works of the West to reveal how we have lost our passionate engagement with and responsiveness to the world. Their journey takes us from the wonder and openness of Homer’s polytheism to the monotheism of Dante; from the autonomy of Kant to the multiple worlds of Melville; and, finally, to the spiritual difficulties evoked by modern authors such as David Foster Wallace and Elizabeth Gilbert. Dreyfus, a philosopher at the University of California, Berkeley, for forty years, is an original thinker who finds in the classic texts of our culture a new relevance for people’s everyday lives. His lively, thought-provoking lectures have earned him a podcast audience that often reaches the iTunesU Top 40. Kelly, chair of the philosophy department at Harvard University, is an eloquent new voice whose sensitivity to the sadness of the culture—and to what remains of the wonder and gratitude that could chase it away—captures a generation adrift. Re-envisioning modern spiritual life through their examination of literature, philosophy, and religious testimony, Dreyfus and Kelly unearth ancient sources of meaning, and teach us how to rediscover the sacred, shining things that surround us every day. This book will change the way we understand our culture, our history, our sacred practices, and ourselves. It offers a new—and very old—way to celebrate and be grateful for our existence in the modern world.
