Book Advances in Ergonomics In Design Usability Special Populations Part III

Download or read book Advances in Ergonomics In Design Usability Special Populations Part III written by Marcelo Soares and published by AHFE International (USA). This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Successful interaction with products, tools and technologies depends on usable designs and accommodating the needs of potential users without requiring costly training. In this context, this book is concerned with emerging ergonomics in design concepts, theories and applications of human factors knowledge focusing on the discovery, design and understanding of human interaction and usability issues with products and systems for their improvement. This book will be of special value to a large variety of professionals, researchers and students in the broad field of human modeling and performance who are interested in feedback of devices’ interfaces (visual and haptic), user-centered design, and design for special populations, particularly the elderly. We hope this book is informative, but even more - that it is thought provoking. We hope it inspires, leading the reader to contemplate other questions, applications, and potential solutions in creating good designs for all.

Book An Operator Perspective on Signals and Systems

Download or read book An Operator Perspective on Signals and Systems written by Arthur Frazho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-29 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, we combine operator techniques with state space methods to solve factorization, spectral estimation, and interpolation problems arising in control and signal processing. We present both the theory and algorithms with some Matlab code to solve these problems. A classical approach to spectral factorization problems in control theory is based on Riccati equations arising in linear quadratic control theory and Kalman ?ltering. One advantage of this approach is that it readily leads to algorithms in the non-degenerate case. On the other hand, this approach does not easily generalize to the nonrational case, and it is not always transparent where the Riccati equations are coming from. Operator theory has developed some elegant methods to prove the existence of a solution to some of these factorization and spectral estimation problems in a very general setting. However, these techniques are in general not used to develop computational algorithms. In this monograph, we will use operator theory with state space methods to derive computational methods to solve factorization, sp- tral estimation, and interpolation problems. It is emphasized that our approach is geometric and the algorithms are obtained as a special application of the theory. We will present two methods for spectral factorization. One method derives al- rithms based on ?nite sections of a certain Toeplitz matrix. The other approach uses operator theory to develop the Riccati factorization method. Finally, we use isometric extension techniques to solve some interpolation problems.

Book Freedom and Law

Download or read book Freedom and Law written by Randi Rashkover and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By contrast, Freedom and Law argues that only in an account of revelatory law can divine freedom and human freedom be thought of without contradiction. The first part analyzes the logic of exceptionalism. In the second part, the author argues that one cannot invoke a doctrine of election without rigorous scrutiny of texts that portray an electing God and an elected people. Once we scrutinize these texts, the character of freedom and law within the divine-human relationship shows itself to be different from that found in exceptionalist logics. The third and final part examines the impact of the logic of the law on Jewish-Christian apologetics. Rather than require that one defend one's position to a nonbeliever, this logic situates all epistemological justification within the order or freedom of God.

Book Saving Truth From Paradox

Download or read book Saving Truth From Paradox written by Hartry Field and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-03-06 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saving Truth from Paradox is an ambitious investigation into paradoxes of truth and related issues, with occasional forays into notions such as vagueness, the nature of validity, and the Gödel incompleteness theorems. Hartry Field presents a new approach to the paradoxes and provides a systematic and detailed account of the main competing approaches. Part One examines Tarski's, Kripke>'s, and Lukasiewicz>'s theories of truth, and discusses validity and soundness, and vagueness. Part Two considers a wide range of attempts to resolve the paradoxes within classical logic. In Part Three Field turns to non-classical theories of truth that that restrict excluded middle. He shows that there are theories of this sort in which the conditionals obey many of the classical laws, and that all the semantic paradoxes (not just the simplest ones) can be handled consistently with the naive theory of truth. In Part Four, these theories are extended to the property-theoretic paradoxes and to various other paradoxes, and some issues about the understanding of the notion of validity are addressed. Extended paradoxes, involving the notion of determinate truth, are treated very thoroughly, and a number of different arguments that the theories lead to "revenge problems" are addressed. Finally, Part Five deals with dialetheic approaches to the paradoxes: approaches which, instead of restricting excluded middle, accept certain contradictions but alter classical logic so as to keep them confined to a relatively remote part of the language. Advocates of dialetheic theories have argued them to be better than theories that restrict excluded middle, for instance over issues related to the incompleteness theorems and in avoiding revenge problems. Field argues that dialetheists>' claims on behalf of their theories are quite unfounded, and indeed that on some of these issues all current versions of dialetheism do substantially worse than the best theories that restrict excluded middle.

Book Digital Sociologies

Download or read book Digital Sociologies written by Daniels, Jessie and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook offers a much-needed overview of the rapidly growing field of digital sociology. Rooted in a critical understanding of inequality as foundational to digital sociology, it connects digital media technologies to traditional areas of study in sociology, such as labor, culture, education, race, class, and gender. It covers a wide variety of topics, including web analytics, wearable technologies, social media analysis, and digital labor. The result is a benchmark volume that places the digital squarely at the forefront of contemporary investigations of the social.
