Perkahwinan mereka cukup bahagia, sehinggalah pada suatu hari isterinya meminta wang sebanyak 100 pounds dan Munro ternampak orang berwajah kuning di sebelah rumahnya. Kerani Broker Saham Seorang kerani muda, Hall Pycroft meminta nasihat Holmes atas perasaan curiganya terhadap sebuah syarikat yang menawarkannya gaji yang terlalu besar. Atas sebab itu, Holmes, Watson, dan Pycroft pergi ke tempat di mana syarikat yang menawarkan kerja itu beroperasi. Semasa mereka tiba di pejabat yang dimaksudkan, pegawai yang ada di pejabat itu cuba membunuh diri setelah melihat mereka. Apa yang membuatkan dia bertindak hingga sebegitu? ‘Gloria Scott’ Ini merupakan kes pertama yang Sherlock Holmes tangani dalam hidupnya. Ketika ini dia masih seorang pelajar kolej. Semasa cuti, Holmes tinggal di rumah sahabatnya, Victor Trevor. Holmes telah melakukan kesilapan dengan membuat kesimpulan yang tepat ke atas ayah Victor, dan menyebabkan lelaki itu diserang gemuruh dan pengsan di meja makan. Holmes menyedari ayah Trevor mempunyai sejarah silam yang hitam, dan seseorang dari masa silam itu kini datang menghantuinya semula. Keempat-empat kisah pendek ini telah dimuatkan dalam jilid The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, yang pertama kali diterbitkan pada tahun 1893.
