Book excerpt: Shem is a land of decadent despots in the west and fierce nomads to the east. This influential nation of over 15 million people is a powerful commercial engine, drawing in wealth through overland trade via the well-traveled caravan routes that criss-cross the arid deserts and pastoral meadowlands. Trade is the life's blood of Shem and its debauched city-states seem to specialize in their manufacture of goods, living off of the unending camel trains. The luxuriant kingdoms are constantly at war with each other, each trying to steal domination of various trade routes, trying to destroy competition in search of ever elusive monopolies in some good or another. The Shemites are well known as slavers, roving the Black Coast in live ships, trading and raiding for "human trade goods" to sell on the block in Shem. The Shemites themselves are also sometimes taken as slaves - the founders of Gazal in the deserts of the Black Kingdoms used Shemite slaves.

Book Gateway to the Heavens

Download or read book Gateway to the Heavens written by Karen L. French and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple geometric shapes and symbols combine to make the universal, powerful, sacred model Karen French calls Gateway to the Heavens. In this book, French explains the meaning and purpose of these shapes, how they mold our reality and perception of it and how they have a direct bearing on what you are and why you are here. These shapes and symbols contain messages that have been consistently represented in religion, philosophy, mythology, mysticism, the arts and sciences. Their messages are built into our genetic make-up and we recogniZe them instinctively. The book is divided up into 3 parts. Part 1 covers the properties of the basic geometric shapes and numbers. Part 2 describes how these, in turn, form layers of construction, creating principals that are fundamental to the purpose of the universe; the spiral sustains reality, the cross highlighting the central point of existence and the heart is where we weigh up our choices. Part 3 describes how we can use these principals to create positive change in our lives by helping us to expand our awareness of reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical story begins and ends with God as king. Human beings rebel, however, rather than fulfilling their royal calling to rule creation on behalf of their Sovereign—and the world became enslaved to the rule of a dark, serpentine lord. In this volume of IVP Academic's Essential Studies in Biblical Theology, Stephen Dempster traces the themes of kingship and kingdom throughout Scripture, illuminating the challenges, pain, and ultimate hope that the Bible offers. The story of God’s kingship is ultimately the fulfillment of a promise, a promise to restore the rightful rule of humanity over creation by defeating sin and death and to establish a world of peace and justice. Essential Studies in Biblical Theology (ESBT), edited by Benjamin L. Gladd, explore the central or essential themes of the Bible's grand storyline. Taking cues from Genesis 1–3, authors trace the presence of these themes throughout the entire sweep of redemptive history. Written for students, church leaders, and laypeople, the series offers an introduction to biblical theology.

Book excerpt: Argos and Zingara are the dominant maritime nations of the Hyborian age, volatile, bloody and wealthy. Great merchants challenge the old ways of feudalism and suddenly one's skills are as important as the circumstances of one's birth. This volume is divided into three sections. The first is devoted to Argos. With this section players can venture forth from the cosmopolitan trading city of Messantia (Messantia City of Riches) into the surrounding lands of this great southern coastal nation. The second section is devoted to the relatively chivalrous nation of Zingara. The third part provides material that can be safely used in both nations. Adventures and adventurers are not limited to piracy and plunder on the high seas as variant rules for non-coastal Argosseans and Zingarans are included, along with culturally-specific roles for each character class for each nation. Gladiators are discussed in detail and Fencing is given new rules as well, offering specialized Knowledge skills for rounding out the combat capabilities of Zingaran sword masters and Zingara's fencing schools. The cult of Mitra is described in previously untold detail in Faith & Fervour, including a new concept to make the Mitraic religion essential and vibrant to players of Mitra's worshippers. Mitra is explored through seven Mysteries. As one learns the mysteries of Mitra, one gains in power and understanding of the universe. Each nation is also given an expanded gazetteer. The cities have all been expanded in detail that will be similar to GMs and players alike who have experienced Conan: Aquilonia, Flower of the West and Stygia - The Sands of Death.
