Book Shattering the Truth Mirage

Book excerpt: Why is it so hard to share the gospel? In the past, missionaries who worked overseas environments had to use more complex approaches to witnessing than the average Christian in America. Why? Because they generally had to overcome truth mirages (false beliefs) that American Christians didn't even have to think about. Unfortunately, in contemporary times, that has all changed. In the past, all we generally needed was to share the simple gospel message and offer people the opportunity to respond - most everyone at least understood what we were talking about. In today's world, though, that is often not the case. many people hold false, non-Christian, beliefs that have to be shattered before they are able to even understand our message, much less be willing to receive it. Religiously, we are a more diverse nation than we used to be, and exclusively using traditional approaches is often ineffective. We need to expand our skill set and learn to use the missionary's toolbox. Freddy and Tal have zeroed in on this need, and have developed a methodology for Shattering the Truth Mirage in order to share an effective witness across every belief barrier.

He knew that he would do anything to protect her, including kill for her, and that is exactly what he did. Valerie had been raped by a man Kyle knew all too well. Kyle’s best friend had a history of womanizing but had never taken it to this extreme before. It took one small squeeze and one bullet to put the animal down. More murders and crimes begin to arise in Kyle’s town. The evidence in these crimes point directly to Kyle’s involvement, but he has no recollection of having a hand in any of them. The time frames of these crimes pinpoint moments of blankness in Kyle’s mind. He can’t recall committing such crimes, but on the other hand, he can’t remember what he was doing at the time of these crimes. Kyle finds himself drifting further and further from reality as his brain tries to ponder how he could not recall a single moment of any of the crimes he allegedly committed. He realizes that his mind only becomes clear when he is with Valerie. As the police close in on Kyle, he finds that he is on the run for his life, and only his love can save him, but how willing is Valerie to forgive him for the evil that he unleashed on the world?

Book Living with a Wild God

Download or read book Living with a Wild God written by Barbara Ehrenreich and published by Twelve. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Nickel and Dimed comes a brave, frank, and exquisitely written memoir that will change the way you see the world. Barbara Ehrenreich is one of the most important thinkers of our time. Educated as a scientist, she is an author, journalist, activist, and advocate for social justice. In Living With a Wild God, she recounts her quest-beginning in childhood-to find ""the Truth"" about the universe and everything else: What's really going on? Why are we here? In middle age, she rediscovered the journal she had kept during her tumultuous adolescence, which records an event so strange, so cataclysmic, that she had never, in all the intervening years, written or spoken about it to anyone. It was the kind of event that people call a ""mystical experience""-and, to a steadfast atheist and rationalist, nothing less than shattering. In Living With a Wild God, Ehrenreich reconstructs her childhood mission, bringing an older woman's wry and erudite perspective to a young girl's impassioned obsession with the questions that, at one point or another, torment us all. The result is both deeply personal and cosmically sweeping-a searing memoir and a profound reflection on science, religion, and the human condition. With her signature combination of intellectual rigor and uninhibited imagination, Ehrenreich offers a true literary achievement-a work that has the power not only to entertain but amaze.

  • Author : Iain Pears
  • Publisher : Vintage Canada
  • Release : 2010-08-06
  • ISBN : 0307370887
  • Pages : 539 pages

Download or read book The Dream of Scipio written by Iain Pears and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2010-08-06 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three narratives, set in the fifth, fourteenth, and twentieth centuries, all revolving around an ancient text and each with a love story at its centre, are the elements of this brilliantly ingenious novel, a follow-up to the international bestseller An Instance of the Fingerpost. The centuries are the 5th (the final days of the Roman Empire); the 14th (the years of the Plague — the Black Death); and the 20th (World War II). The setting for each is the same — Provence — and each has at its heart a love story. The narratives intertwine seamlessly, and what joins them thematically is an ancient text — “The Dream of Scipio” — a work of neo-Platonism that poses timeless philosophical questions. What is the obligation of the individual in a society under siege? What is the role of learning when civilization itself is threatened, whether by acts of man or nature? Does virtue lie more in engagement or in neutrality? “Power without wisdom is tyranny; wisdom without power is pointless,” warns one of Pears’s characters. The Dream of Scipio is a bona fide novel of ideas, a dazzling feat of storytelling, fiction for our times.

As parents of two young girls in the Chicago suburbs, their days can be both busy and monotonous, and sometimes Josie wonders how she became a harried fortysomething mother rather than the driven career woman she once was. But Frank is a phenomenal father, he’s handsome and charismatic, and he still looks at his wife like she’s the beautiful woman he married more than a decade ago. Josie isn’t just happy—she’s lucky. Until one Saturday morning when Josie borrows her husband’s phone to make a quick call—and sees nine words that shatter her world. Now Josie feels as if she is standing at the edge of a sharp precipice. As she looks back at pivotal moments in the relationship she believed would last forever, she is also plunging ahead, surprising everyone (especially herself) with how far she will go to uncover the extent of her husband’s devastating secret.
