This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, which presents the cumulation of the authors' research in the field, deals with Lidstone, Hermite, Abel--Gontscharoff, Birkhoff, piecewise Hermite and Lidstone, spline and Lidstone--spline interpolating problems. Explicit representations of the interpolating polynomials and associated error functions are given, as well as explicit error inequalities in various norms. Numerical illustrations are provided of the importance and sharpness of the various results obtained. Also demonstrated are the significance of these results in the theory of ordinary differential equations such as maximum principles, boundary value problems, oscillation theory, disconjugacy and disfocality. For mathematicians, numerical analysts, computer scientists and engineers.

Download or read book Handbook of Splines written by Gheorghe Micula and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to give a comprehensive introduction to the theory of spline functions, together with some applications to various fields, emphasizing the significance of the relationship between the general theory and its applications. At the same time, the goal of the book is also to provide new ma terial on spline function theory, as well as a fresh look at old results, being written for people interested in research, as well as for those who are interested in applications. The theory of spline functions and their applications is a relatively recent field of applied mathematics. In the last 50 years, spline function theory has undergone a won derful development with many new directions appearing during this time. This book has its origins in the wish to adequately describe this development from the notion of 'spline' introduced by 1. J. Schoenberg (1901-1990) in 1946, to the newest recent theories of 'spline wavelets' or 'spline fractals'. Isolated facts about the functions now called 'splines' can be found in the papers of L. Euler, A. Lebesgue, G. Birkhoff, J.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a novel approach to umbral calculus, which uses only elementary linear algebra (matrix calculus) based on the observation that there is an isomorphism between Sheffer polynomials and Riordan matrices, and that Sheffer polynomials can be expressed in terms of determinants. Additionally, applications to linear interpolation and operator approximation theory are presented in many settings related to various families of polynomials.

Download or read book Polynomial Sequences written by Francesco Aldo Costabile and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polynomials are useful mathematical tools. They are simply defined and can be calculated quickly on computer systems. They can be differentiated and integrated easily and can be pieced together to form spline curves. After Weierstrass approximation Theorem, polynomial sequences have acquired considerable importance not only in the various branches of Mathematics, but also in Physics, Chemistry and Engineering disciplines. There is a wide literature on specific polynomial sequences. But there is no literature that attempts a systematic exposition of the main basic methods for the study of a generic polynomial sequence and, at the same time, gives an overview of the main polynomial classes and related applications, at least in numerical analysis. In this book, through an elementary matrix calculus-based approach, an attempt is made to fill this gap by exposing dated and very recent results, both theoretical and applied.

Book Quantitative Approximation

Download or read book Quantitative Approximation written by Ronald A. Devore and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantitative Approximation provides information pertinent to nonlinear approximation, including rational approximation and optimal knot spline approximation. This book discusses spline approximation with the most emphasis on multivariate and knot independent questions. Organized into 26 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the inequality for the sharp function in terms of the maximal rearrangement. This text then examines the best co-approximation in a Hilbert space wherein the existence ad uniqueness sets are the closed flats. Other chapters consider the inverse of the coefficient matrix for the system satisfied by the B-spline coefficients of the cubic spline interpolant at knots. This book discusses as well the relationship between the structural properties of a function and its degree of approximation by rational functions. The final chapter deals with the problem of existence of continuous selections for metric projections and provides a solution for this problem. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.
