Book Shape Transitions at High Spin

Download or read book Shape Transitions at High Spin written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes of nuclear shapes at high spin have been observed in several transitional nuclei, including 153 154Dy and 186Hg. In the Dy isotopes a transition from collective to single-particle character appears at high spin suggesting a change from prolate to oblate shapes. In 186Hg, decoupled i132 quasiparticle bands with prolate and oblate shapes may have been observed in two crossing bands. The present discussion focusses on the polarizing effect of high-j rotation-aligned particles on the soft cores of these nuclei. Studies of the decay of the compound nucleus 156Er, produced at the rather low excitation energy of 46 MeV in the reaction 64Ni + 92Zr, are also reported. Measurements of neutron spectra as a function of .gamma.-sum energy and of the neutron multiplicity distribution have been performed. Comparison with the results of statistical model calculations suggests a suppression of neutron emission and it is speculated that this might be due to trapping in a superdeformed well.

Book High Spin Physics And Gamma soft Nuclei Proceedings Of The International Conference

Download or read book High Spin Physics And Gamma soft Nuclei Proceedings Of The International Conference written by Juerg X Saladin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-03-06 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings present the most recent results of experimental and theoretical nuclear spectroscopy, revealing the effects of rapid rotation and thermal fluctuations on the shapes and superfluid properties of a wide range of atomic nuclei. Unstable and novel shapes are emphasized, e.g. super-and hyper-deformed shapes, and triaxial quadrupole and octupole shapes (both static and vibrational). Theoretical treatments are given in terms of a variety of mean field models, as well as the Fermion Dynamical Symmetry Model and the Interacting Boson Model. New experimental methods of gamma-ray spectroscopy are discussed, including fluctuation analysis and energy-ordered gamma ray spectroscopy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of spin-crossover has a large impact on the physical properties of a solid material, including its colour, magnetic moment, and electrical resistance. Some materials also show a structural phase change during the transition. Several practical applications of spin-crossover materials have been demonstrated including display and memory devices, electrical and electroluminescent devices, and MRI contrast agents. Switchable liquid crystals, nanoparticles, and thin films of spin-crossover materials have also been achieved. Spin-Crossover Materials: Properties and Applications presents a comprehensivesurvey of recent developments in spin-crossover research, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of this rapidly expanding field. Following an introductory chapter which describes the spin-crossover phenomenon and historical development of the field, the book goes on to cover a wide range of topics including Spin-crossover in mononuclear, polynuclear and polymeric complexes Structure: function relationships in molecular spin-crossover materials Charge-transfer-induced spin-transitions Reversible spin-pairing in crystalline organic radicals Spin-state switching in solution Spin-crossover compounds in multifunctional switchable materials and nanotechnology Physical and theoretical methods for studying spin-crossover materials Spin-Crossover Materials: Properties and Applications is a valuable resource for academic researchers working in the field of spin-crossover materials and topics related to crystal engineering, solid state chemistry and physics, and molecular materials. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several hundred nuclear scientists from more than a dozen countries met in Miami Beach, Florida, in September 1989 for a Symposium on Exotic Nuclear Spectroscopy, sponsored by the Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology of the Amencan Chemical Society. Braving five days of beckoning beaches, they presented, listened to, and discussed a series spectroscopy-both experimental and of invited papers covering the renaissance of nuclear theoretical-that has occurred during the past decade and which promises to continue well into the decade to come. This book contains the Proceedings of that Symposium on Exotic Nuclear Spectroscopy. But it is much more: During the ensuing six months, most of the pa{>ers were rewritten, polished, and/or expanded; so the resulting book is a much more fimshed, comprehensive, and up-to-date product than a general proceedings. Chapter se~uences follow the original symposium program, which, with a few exceptions, juxtaposes like topics. Each chapter can stand more or less on its own-although, as in any complex, interrelated scientific field, there are many cross-references among chapters. The manuscripts were edited and then uniformly typed in the Department of Chemistry at Michigan State University. I tried to keep the editing to a minimum so as to preserve the flavor of individual styles. A great debt of gratitude goes to those who helped make this volume possible, especially to Vada O'Donnell, who bore the largest burden of typing (and clarifying) the manuscripts.

Book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and Transition Metal Chemistry

Download or read book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and Transition Metal Chemistry written by Philipp Gütlich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-25 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: concentrates on teaching techniques using as much theory as needed. application of the techniques to many problems of materials characterization. Mössbauer spectroscopy is a profound analytical method which has nevertheless continued to develop. The authors now present a state-of-the art book which consists of two parts. The first part details the fundamentals of Mössbauer spectroscopy and is based on a book published in 1978 in the Springer series 'Inorganic Chemistry Concepts' by P. Gütlich, R. Link and A.X. Trautwein. The second part covers useful practical aspects of measurements, and the application of the techniques to many problems of materials characterization. The update includes the use of synchroton radiation and many instructive and illustrative examples in fields such as solid state chemistry, biology and physics, materials and the geosciences, as well as industrial applications. Special chapters on magnetic relaxation phenomena (S. Morup) and computation of hyperfine interaction parameters (F. Neese) are also included. The book concentrates on teaching the technique using theory as much as needed and as little as possible. The reader will learn the fundamentals of the technique and how to apply it to many problems of materials characterization. Transition metal chemistry, studied on the basis of the most widely used Mössbauer isotopes, will be in the foreground.
