Book Structure Of Hadrons And Hadronic Matter International Summer School

Download or read book Structure Of Hadrons And Hadronic Matter International Summer School written by Olaf Scholten and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-07-22 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory textbook on amorphous magnets for students and scientists in physics and materials science. Book The Quark Structure of Hadrons

Download or read book The Quark Structure of Hadrons written by Claude Amsler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Novel forms of matter, such as states made of gluons (glueballs), multiquark mesons or baryons and hybrid mesons are predicted by low energy QCD, for which several candidates have recently been identified. Searching for such exotic states of matter and studying their production and decay properties in detail has become a flourishing field at the experimental facilities now available or being built - e.g. BESIII in Beijing, BELLE II at SuperKEKB, GlueX at Jefferson Lab, PANDA at FAIR, J-PARC and in the upgraded LHC experiments, in particular LHCb. A modern primer in the field is required so as to both revive and update the teaching of a new generation of researchers in the field of QCD. These lectures on hadron spectroscopy are intended for Master and PhD students and have been originally developed for a course delivered at the Stefan Meyer Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. They are phenomenologically oriented and intended as complementary material for basic courses in particle and nuclear physics. The book describes the spectra of light and heavy mesons and baryons, and introduces the fundamental properties based on symmetries. Further, it derives multiplet structures, mixing angle, decay coupling constants, magnetic moments of baryons, and predictions for multiquark states and compares these with suitable experimental data. Basic methods of calculating decay angular distributions and determining masses and widths of resonances are also presented. The appendices provide students and newcomers to the field with the necessary background information, and include a set of problems and solutions.

Book Deformed Shapes of Hadrons Variational Principle

Download or read book Deformed Shapes of Hadrons Variational Principle written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility is considered that the shape of the ground state configuration of a system of quarks interacting with a real scalar field is nonspherical. This is explored through application of the variational principle to a simple model field theory of quarks coupled linearly to a real scalar field. Trial functions are, by construction, eigenstates of linear and angular momentum and correspond to quarks confined by an ellipsoidal well of major axis, a, and minor axis, b, with zero depth and height g phi0, where g is the quark-scalar particle coupling constant. The parameters a, b, and phi0 are determined such that their values minimize the total energy of the system. These variations are carried out in the limit when the renormalized scalar particle mass, .mu., is taken to infinity and the energy takes on a semi-classical form. Furthermore, in the renormalized limit (i.e., when the renormalization cutoff goes to infinity) it is found that the energy depends on two finite arbitrary constants and that there exists a minimum of the energy for which the eccentricity of the confining well is nonzero. In fact, the spherical configuration is unstable and of higher energy. The model is applied to hadron spectroscopy for the low lying (mass

Book Medium Energy Antiprotons and the Quark Gluon Structure of Hadrons

Download or read book Medium Energy Antiprotons and the Quark Gluon Structure of Hadrons written by R. Klapisch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth course of the International School on Physics with Low Energy Antiprotons was held in Erice, Sicily, at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture from 25 to 31 January, 1990. The previous courses covered topics related to fundamental symmetries, light and heavy quark spectroscopy, and antiproton-nucleus interactions. The purpose of this school is to review theoretical and experimental aspects of low energy antiproton physics concerning the quark-gluon structure of hadrons and the dynamics of the. antiproton-nucleon interaction. Another important objective is the discussion of future directions of research with low-and medium-energy antiprotons in the context of future medium energy facilities at CERN and elsewhere. These proceedings contain both the tutorial lectures and the various contributions presented during the school by the participants. The proceedings have been organised in three sections. The first section is devoted to the theoretical lectures and contributions. The selection of the various subjects wants to emphasize the correlation between antiproton-nucleon physics and the underlying description in terms of quarks and gluons. The second section contains an overview about 35 years of experiments with antiprotons. It gives an introduction to the particle physics aspects of the field by outlining the historical development of experiment and theory, and by describing the motivation and the results of three recent LEAR experiments in more detail. The third section contains most of the contributions of the participants describing in more detail certain aspects of current or planned experiments at LEAR.

Book excerpt: The Conference “Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the Century” was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleus-nucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects.

Book Exploring the Structure of Hadrons Through Spin Asymmetries in Hard Scattering Processes

Download or read book Exploring the Structure of Hadrons Through Spin Asymmetries in Hard Scattering Processes written by Daniel Pitonyak and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost all of the visible matter in the universe is built from strongly interacting particles known as hadrons. For example, protons and neutrons, which comprise the nucleus of an atom, fit into this class of particles. However, hadrons are not a fundamental form of matter in that they are composed of other particles collectively called partons. One of the main challenges we face is to understand this internal structure. In the past, focus was placed mainly on reactions that involved so-called collinear twist-2 two-parton correlators. Even though these functions provide valuable access to the interior of hadrons, they present us with only a 1-dimensional and, hence, incomplete view of this complex world. In recent years, two extensions of this formalism have become an active source of research: transverse momentum dependent (TMD) functions and three-parton correlations. The former allow us to obtain a 3-dimensional image of hadrons (in momentum space), while the latter give us insight into the rich interactions that occur inside of them, and the two are closely connected. In this dissertation we analyze spin asymmetries in hard scattering processes, which address both types of functions, in order to understand the parton dynamics that cause these phenomena and to determine what these observables reveal about the inner-workings of hadrons. Namely, we analyze (almost back-to-back) di-hadron production in electron-positron annihilation as well as discuss momentum sum rules for some of the associated TMD functions. We also investigate transverse single-spin asymmetries in lepton-nucleon and proton-proton collisions. The study of the former allows us to comment on the general role of parton re-scattering in such effects, while a discussion of the latter includes a new computation of an important piece to that observable. Furthermore, we present pioneering calculations on longitudinal-transverse double-spin asymmetries in nucleon-nucleon collisions.
