Book Shakespeare s Cross Cultural Encounters

Download or read book Shakespeare s Cross Cultural Encounters written by Geraldo U. De Sousa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this highly entertaining study, De Sousa argues that Shakespeare reinterprets, refashions and reinscribes his alien characters - Jews, Moors, Amazons and gypsies. In this way, the dramatist questions the narrowness of a European perspective which caricatures other societies and views them with suspicion. De Sousa examines how Shakespeare defines other cultures in terms of the interplay of gender, text and habitat. Written in a provocative style, this readable book provides a wealth of fascinating information both on contemporary stage productions and on race and gender relations in early modern Europe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Doesn't Want You to Read: Shakespeare Beyond Doubt? Never has the case against the Stratford man been made so clear and compelling. Unsettled by the growing success of the Shakespeare Authorship Coalition and its online Declaration of Reasonable Doubt About the Identity of William Shakespeare, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon has published a book insisting that the identity of the author William Shakespeare is "beyond doubt." In this withering reply a dozen scholars expose the bankruptcy of this claim and challenge the Birthplace Trust to stand and defend its position under cross-examination in a televised mock trial. "Authorities tell us there is no doubt that Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare. Should we trust them? This book comes at a critical time, with defenders of orthodoxy deceiving the public about how weak their case really is. It is time for a serious re-examination of the evidence. This book does just that." - Richard Waugaman, M.D., Clinical Professor of Psychiatry; Faculty Expert on Shakespeare for Media Contacts, Georgetown University, Washington, D. C.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since this book is being published posthumous, please allow me to share what I remember about my dad, the author. Russell Storrs Hall was the third son born to Olive Agar Hall and Bertine Anderson Hall on February 4th,1917 on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. I believe he was a very serious, sensitive, studious young man growing up, who was constantly reading and searching for answers. He possessed a high intellect and a profound curiosity. He attended college in Chicago, but soon after the Pearl Harbor attack, enlisted in the Army. At some point in time, his Company was sent to serve in Panama, Central America, where he became ill from the effects of the jungle. He received a medical discharge in 1943 and returned home to convalesce. On August 5th, 1945 he married my mother, Hildegard H. Bergt. When I was young, my father worked as an insurance underwriter for George F. Brown Insurance and LLoyds of London. In 1960, after sitting for a civil service exam, he changed careers and became a Postal Carrier. My parents divorced in 1968, and dad later remarried in 1971 to Lorraine R. Lawler. In 1982 he retired from the downtown Chicago Post Offifi ce as supervisor. My father’s lifetime passion and hobby was researching for this manuscript, and he dedicated his retirement years to writing this book. His wife Lorraine was his source of encouragement. He fifi nally completed his book only a few months before his death, February 10th, 1998. I am very proud to be his daughter, yours truly, Janice Gold-Orland.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greatest cultural mystery in the Western World is, ?Who wrote the superb plays and sonnets published under the pen name of William Shakespeare Conventional wisdom, so often proved wrong as cultures evolve, currently favors William Shakspere of Stratford-on-Avon?a butcher's apprentice, grain speculator and real estate investor who never went to school, never owned a book, never traveled abroad, knew no foreign languages and never wrote anything except his crudely scrawled signature. Because of the raptorian grip of guild mythology and the threat of professional punishment, professors of English cling tenaciously to their Stratford Man, refusing to believe any data in favor of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford. Avalanche of Falsity documents impressive discoveries in favor of de Vere and describes the questionable methods professors use as they try desperately to counteract massive accumulating evidence against their illiterate candidate.
