Download or read book Sophia s Table written by Kathy Zamonski and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sophia's Table has emerged from the first contemplative writing series I offered. Four women writers joined me for what was to be a six-week series. At the completion of the series, they decided to continue on a monthly basis for six months, then again, and once again. The work became more personal as the women's trust deepened into friendship over the course of the year in which they shared their stories. All of us have found writing to be central to leading healthy, balanced lives; to gaining fresh perspective; and to finding meaning and purpose. Each of us has a distinct voice pitched and toned by her unique life experience. Yet Sophias Table is more than a collection of voices. The production of the book itself is a true collaboration of time and talent, engaging the gifts of each of us to bring the book to publication.

This book was released on 2024-12-21 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a time, long before the present time, there was a peaceful and advanced race of Terrans who lived in harmony. Knowledge and wisdom flourished in this kingdom and the glory of grace was unquestionably strong. Long ago, violence and war had plagued this island nation, but once all islands were united and unified, everything fell into place. There was little contact with anybody outside of the region, but this location was arguably the most beautiful in the world. This nation was thought to be the center of Terra, and among the most peaceful and spiritual Terrans ever known. This was the legendary Kingdom of Lemuria. The Great King of Lemuria was madly in love with his wife. The queen and king had met at a young age, and once their eyes locked there was no separating them. In an instant, as if fate itself had predestined their union, love was actualized and manifested within one another. King Abraxas, son of King Apollo, and Queen Minerva, daughter of Queen Athena; together, they were Lemuria’s most potentially prominent rulers. Their love for one another was beyond limits, boundless and immeasurable. The richness of nature in this nation was a direct reflection of the strong bloodlines that have ruled this land for centuries. The shared culture, finances, property, and belongings was a true utopian design that no other nation on Terra had ever accomplished. Everyone practiced their own spiritual and economic endeavors, living out their own philosophy, but with great regard and respect to the ancient practices of the royal family. Although nobody was forced to believe what the royals believed, they were all required to give their attention to one of the traditions. It was required for every citizen of Lemuria to donate to the Kingdom on the first Friday the 13th of the year. One liter of blood would be donated from their first-born child, and everyone had at least three children. This tradition was one that had been ongoing for at least three centuries, and nobody ever questioned royalty’s intentions or desires. This nation was the most peaceful and prosperous of all nations of the land, with no homelessness or illness plaguing any of its citizens. Everyone that was born in Lemuria never left this sacred land and everyone who would visit would be jealous and dream of citizenship in this majestic destination. One could only visit Lemuria by invitation and with a Lemurian’s invitation, their own reputation being an extension and requirement of the invitation. Few were chosen and even fewer accepted to remain. The land of love was the emergence of the birthright of the most beautiful and attractive of Terra’s leaders. In this time and era, King Abraxas and Queen Minerva would pour all their love into one child, who would be given the keys to the Kingdom. Heir to the throne and all its glory, to the beloved and cherished lands of those worthy of its inheritance. Her name would be Sophia, the keeper of knowledge and liberator of oppression, when it arrives. The fulfillment of prophecy and the one who will bear the fruits of truth and wisdom. She will be the daughter of perdition, the righteous mother of the lost. She was, is and will be the long-awaited Moon Child.

Download or read book Healing the Wounded God written by Jeffrey Raff and published by Nicolas-Hays, Inc.. This book was released on 2002-04-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through their work with their clients, their own experiences, and studies in myth, mysticism, and alchemy, the authors have traced the emergence of a new spiritual paradigm in which the divine seeks wholeness through and with us. Many of us are having experiences that bring us in contact with a being who seems to exist independently in the realm beyond the psyche, or what the authors term "the psychoid." This being, the ally, challenges and helps us along our way to individuation. The ally represents our divine counterpart and works with us, if we are willing, to help heal the schism between and within the divine and us. The authors show us how to contact and consciously enter into a relationship with the ally through our dreams and by employing what C. G. Jung termed "active imagination." When we work with the ally to transform ourselves, the divine transforms as well, all three elements co-creating a whole being. The authors explore the ally's parallels in mystical traditions such as Sufism and alchemy, and how the ally differs from angelic beings. They also present an exciting new view of various creation myths, revealing that salvation exists beyond the "vault of heaven" for God and human alike.
Download or read book Saving the Neanderthals written by Mark S. McLeod-Harrison and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when the wrench of evolution is dropped into the hopper of Christian theology? Written by a philosopher, Saving the Neanderthals takes evolution as its foil and shows what might have to change in Christian theology in order to make theology compatible with evolution. If the Christian faith is shown consistent with what Mark S. McLeod-Harrison calls “hard evolution,” then the softer versions will also be compatible. Indeed, that is exactly what the book argues, specifically for the Christian doctrines of sin and salvation. These doctrines typically rely on some fairly strong realist version of essentialism, which hard evolution denies; but McLeod-Harrison proposes an approach to sin and salvation that is compatible with the anti-essentialist claims of hard evolution.
Download or read book Disappearing Earth written by Julia Phillips and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of The New York Times 10 Best Books of the Year National Book Award Finalist Finalist for the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize Finalist for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize Finalist for the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award National Best Seller "Splendidly imagined . . . Thrilling" --Simon Winchester "A genuine masterpiece" --Gary Shteyngart Spellbinding, moving--evoking a fascinating region on the other side of the world--this suspenseful and haunting story announces the debut of a profoundly gifted writer. One August afternoon, on the shoreline of the Kamchatka peninsula at the northeastern edge of Russia, two girls--sisters, eight and eleven--go missing. In the ensuing weeks, then months, the police investigation turns up nothing. Echoes of the disappearance reverberate across a tightly woven community, with the fear and loss felt most deeply among its women. Taking us through a year in Kamchatka, Disappearing Earth enters with astonishing emotional acuity the worlds of a cast of richly drawn characters, all connected by the crime: a witness, a neighbor, a detective, a mother. We are transported to vistas of rugged beauty--densely wooded forests, open expanses of tundra, soaring volcanoes, and the glassy seas that border Japan and Alaska--and into a region as complex as it is alluring, where social and ethnic tensions have long simmered, and where outsiders are often the first to be accused. In a story as propulsive as it is emotionally engaging, and through a young writer's virtuosic feat of empathy and imagination, this powerful novel brings us to a new understanding of the intricate bonds of family and community, in a Russia unlike any we have seen before.
Download or read book Sophia Tolstoy written by Alexandra Popoff and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Leo Tolstoy’s wife, Sophia Tolstoy experienced both glory and condemnation during their forty-eight-year marriage. She was admired as the muse and literary assistant to one of the world’s most celebrated novelists. But when in later years Tolstoy became a towering public figure and founded a new brand of religion, she was scorned for her disagreements with him. And it is this version of Sophia—malicious, shrill, perennially at war with Tolstoy—that has gone down in the historical record. Drawing on newly available archival material, including Sophia’s unpublished memoir, Alexandra Popoff presents a dramatically different and accurate portrait of the woman and the marriage. This lively, well-researched biography demonstrates that, contrary to popular belief, Sophia was remarkably supportive of Tolstoy and was, in fact, key to his fame. Gifted and versatile, Sophia assisted Tolstoy during the writing of War and Peace and Anna Karenina. Having modeled his most memorable female characters on her, Tolstoy admired his wife’s boundless energy, which he called “the force of life.” Sophia’s letters, never before translated, illuminate the couple’s true relationship and provide insights into Tolstoy’s creative laboratory. Although long portrayed as an elitist and hysterical countess, Sophia was in reality a practical, independent-minded, generous, and talented woman who shared Tolstoy’s important values and his capacity for work. Mother of thirteen, she participated in Tolstoy’s causes and managed all business a airs. Popoff describes in haunting detail the intrusion into their marriage by Tolstoy’s religious disciple Vladimir Chertkov, who controlled Tolstoy at the end of his life and led a smear campaign against Sophia, branding her evil and mad. She is still judged by Chertkov’s false accounts, which dismissed her valuable achievements and contributions. During his later religious phase, Tolstoy renounced his property and copyright, and Sophia had to become the breadwinner. She published Tolstoy’s collected works and supported their large family. Despite the pressures of her demanding life, she realized her own talents as a writer, photographer, translator, and aspiring artist. This vigorous, engrossing biography presents in fascinating depth and detail the many ways in which Sophia Tolstoy enriched the life and work of one of the world’s most revered authors.
