Book excerpt: Facing life in and of itself is difficult. But when self-esteem issues, drugs, and questions about life come crashing down all at once, life is more than difficult. Many of us have unpleasant memories which we have carried on our shoulders as we became adults. These memories which may seem dormant can surface in many other negative ways. Unexplained aggression, total mood changes for no apparent reason, deep depression are just a few examples which can come from repressed feelings. This is about one person who struggles to overcome their inner conflicts as well as the shame which came from certain traumatic events. The life of those closest to Fred was greatly affected. Self-redemption and the long journey to coming to terms in order to heal is a story that everyone should be able to relate to. People who are afraid to speak on issues that hurt have to understand that to hold on to these bitter feelings will become toxic. And just like waste it will poison everything around. Thoughts of suicide was a big part of Fred's life during the years of inner rage as well as low self-esteem. Many may wrestle with these thoughts but through the personal experience I can say that reaching rock bottom made me face myself. I am thanking God for being a great part of my life without this foundation I would not be here now. Whether you to go to church or not this story should impress everyone in order to heal, we have to put closure on certain unpleasant subjects.

Book excerpt: Award-winning novelist, journalist, and playwright Rick Salutin takes us into the world of his protagonist, Max -- economist, leftist, and reluctant but incorrigible womanizer. Max’s amorous adventures begin at the age of eight when the young Casanova finds himself running from the scene of his first crime, a surreptitious kiss on the couch with the neighbour’s daughter. For the next few decades women become participants in Max’s awkward and often hilarious journey to self-discovery -- some willing, some reluctant, some unwitting. We follow Max from the 50s to the 90s, through shifting sexual codes and practices, from Toronto to London and Paris, and, most importantly, from one woman to another. He is doomed to repeat this history until he learns from it. Resonant with authority, experience, and self-deprecating insight, The Womanizer explores the riddles of growing up and the discovery that we understand ourselves only through others and that our most intimate moments are clues to our true selves.

Book Sex Money and Personal Character in Eighteenth Century British Politics

Download or read book Sex Money and Personal Character in Eighteenth Century British Politics written by Marilyn Morris and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How, and why, did the Anglo-American world become so obsessed with the private lives and public character of its political leaders? Marilyn Morris finds answers in eighteenth-century Britain, when a long tradition of court intrigue and gossip spread into a much broader and more public political arena with the growth of political parties, extra-parliamentary political activities, and a partisan print culture. The public’s preoccupation with the personal character of the ruling elite paralleled a growing interest in the interior lives of individuals in histories, novels, and the theater. Newspaper reports of the royal family intensified in intimacy and its members became moral exemplars—most often, paradoxically, when they misbehaved. Ad hominem attacks on political leaders became commonplace; politicians of all affiliations continued to assess one another’s characters based on their success and daring with women and money. And newly popular human-interest journalism promoted the illusion that the personal characters of public figures could be read by appearances.

Book excerpt: With simple cases of premature ejaculation or anorgasmia becoming increasingly rare, clinicians are now utilizing a sophisticated array of multidisciplinary approaches to treat a complex variety of challenging problems and patient populations. Bringing together, under one cover, case studies and clinical discussions by the very authorities whose work is changing the field, Case Studies in Sex Therapy provides a state-of-the-art guide to current clinical practice. Chapters in the first section focus on cases of sexual desire disorders and explore such issues as desire disparity between partners, clinical interventions in marital and sex therapy, biological aspects of inhibited sexual desire, treatment considerations with a homosexual couple, the application of integrative therapy for treating secondary low sex desire, and the many factors that may contribute to sexual avoidance. The next section demonstrates both the opportunities and the complex challenges posed to the clinician by the array of new medical, surgical, and pharmacological therapies. Addressing the growing interest in sexual addiction and compulsion, the third section covers controversial issues such as the treatment of a sexually addictive client and the treatment implications when a client has been sexually exploited by another therapist.

Book Sex Sadism Spain and Cinema

Download or read book Sex Sadism Spain and Cinema written by Nicholas G. Schlegel and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1968 to 1977, Spain experienced a boom in horror-movie production under a restrictive economic system established by the country’s dictator, Francisco Franco. Despite hindrance from the Catholic Church and Spanish government, which rigidly controlled motion picture content, hundreds of horror films were produced during this ten-year period. This statistic is even more remarkable when compared with the output of studios and production companies in the United States and elsewhere at the same time. What accounts for the staggering number of films, and what does it say about Spain during this period? In Sex, Sadism, Spain, and Cinema: The Spanish Horror Film, Nicholas G. Schlegel looks at movies produced, distributed, and exhibited under the crumbling dictatorship of General Franco. The production and content of these films, the author suggests, can lead to a better understanding of the political, social, and cultural conditions during a contentious period in Spain’s history. The author addresses the complex factors that led to the “official” sanctioning of horror films—which had previously been banned—and how they differed from other popular genres that were approved and subsidized by the government. In addition to discussing the financing and exhibiting of these productions, the author examines the tropes, conventions, iconography, and thematic treatments of the films. Schlegel also analyzes how these movies were received by audiences and critics, both in Spain and abroad. Finally, he looks at the circumstances that led to the rapid decline of such films in the late 1970s and early 1980s. By examining how horror movies thrived in Spain during this decade, this book addresses a sorely neglected gap in film scholarship and also complements existing literature on Spanish national cinema. Sex, Sadism, Spain, and Cinema will appeal to fans of horror films as well as scholars of film history, European history, genre studies, and cultural studies.

Book The Imprint Journey

Download or read book The Imprint Journey written by Liliane Desjardins and published by Loving Healing Press. This book was released on 2011-02-25 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever Wonder Why The Same Patterns Happen To You Over And Over Again? We all have imprints, both negative and positive. An imprint is a belief that shapes our thoughts and actions, a belief we often hold unconsciously. Liliane Desjardins, a certified clinical addiction specialist, co-founder of Pavillon Gilles Desjardins, and co-creator of the Desjardins Unified Model of Treatment of Addictions, sets forth in "The Imprint Journey" an exploration of imprints, how they govern our lives, and how we can reprogram our minds to function in new and fulfilling ways. "The Imprint Journey" is equivalent to reading two powerful books in one. Liliane spends the first section telling her own story--a childhood in war-torn Croatia, the death of her mother, being an immigrant first to France and later French Canada--and the addictions and dysfunctions that marred her life until a suicide attempt resulted in a near-death experience. Her own personal recovery led her on a mission to help others find their own freedom from self-imposed and self-limiting imprints. The second half of this powerful book provides an anatomy of our imprints, revealing how to transform them so we are free to be our authentic selves. Liliane includes eight powerful personal stories of people who have overcome their imprints--including religious, sexual, and cultural limitations--as well as an overview of how understanding and rewriting our imprints can shape the human race's future as we all experience individual "Oneness." Readers will find themselves turning to The "Imprint Journey" again and again as a guide to relieve fears and to discover powerful truths about themselves that will transform them into their authentic selves. Acclaim For Desjardins' "The Imprint Journey" "Liliane writes from the depth of her own experience, with passion and power and a keen understanding of the human psyche. Her insights lift the reader above their own past patterns, providing insight both comforting and striking. The book inspires hope that no matter what we've been through, fundamental change is possible." --Marianne Williamson, author, A Return To Love "The Imprint Journey will touch your very soul and make way for profound transformation. Book Sex Addiction

    Book Details:
  • Author : Barry Reay
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2015-08-06
  • ISBN : 0745698026
  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Sex Addiction written by Barry Reay and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of sex addiction took hold in the 1980s as a product of cultural anxiety. Yet, despite being essentially mythical, sex addiction has to be taken seriously as a phenomenon. Its success as a purported malady lay with its medicalization, both as a self-help movement in terms of self-diagnosis, and as a rapidly growing industry of therapists treating the new disease. The media played a role in its history, first with TV, the tabloids and the case histories of claimed celebrity victims all helping to popularize the concept, and then with the impact of the Internet. This book is a critical history of an archetypically modern sexual syndrome. Reay, Attwood and Gooder argue that this strange history of social opportunism, diagnostic amorphism, therapeutic self-interest and popular cultural endorsement is marked by an essential social conservatism: sex addiction has become a convenient term to describe disapproved sex. It is a label without explanatory force. This book will be essential reading for those interested in sexuality studies, contemporary history, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, media studies and studies of the Internet. It will also be of interest to doctors and therapists currently working in this and related fields.

Book There Are Save Two Churches Only Volume II

Download or read book There Are Save Two Churches Only Volume II written by D. Christian Markham and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journey through disturbing yet crucial matters that must be considered prior to End Times and Christ's return. This second volume takes a different approach from the first. It is a journey, not a pick-and-choose buffet. It begins by taking the reader where the first volume left off, ""down the rabbit hole."" The journey concludes in confronting the LDS reader with a crucible, wherewith one's faith and trust in Christ (and in Christ alone) will be put to the ultimate test. There are save two churches only: Which one does your everyday mindset, and your personal and professional choices, testify that you are a member of? What is the foundation upon which you anchor your sacred testimony? How close, how intimate, how cherished is your relationship with Jesus Christ? If you are not prepared to answer these questions with full conviction of heart, then you are not ready to contemplate the contents of this book.

Book Narrative Developments from Chaucer to Defoe

Download or read book Narrative Developments from Chaucer to Defoe written by Gerd Bayer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-02-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection analyzes how narrative technique developed from the late Middle Ages to the beginning of the 18th century. Taking Chaucer’s influential Middle English works as the starting point, the original essays in this volume explore diverse aspects of the formation of early modern prose narratives. Essays focus on how a sense of selfness or subjectivity begins to establish itself in various narratives, thus providing a necessary requirement for the individuality that dominates later novels. Other contributors investigate how forms of intertextuality inscribe early modern prose within previous traditions of literary writing. A group of chapters presents the process of genre-making as taking place both within the confines of the texts proper, but also within paratextual features and through the rationale behind cataloguing systems. A final group of essays takes the implicit notion of the growing realism of early modern prose narrative to task by investigating the various social discourses that feature ever more strongly within the social, commercial, or religious dimensions of those texts. The book addresses a wide range of literary figures such as Chaucer, Wroth, Greene, Sidney, Deloney, Pepys, Behn, and Defoe. Written by an international group of scholars, it investigates the transformations of narrative form from medieval times through the Renaissance and the early modern period, and into the eighteenth century.

Book Sex in the Land of Genghis Khan

Download or read book Sex in the Land of Genghis Khan written by Baasanjav Terbish and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the history of sexuality in Mongolia over the last 800 years. As a culture-specific and time-specific system of values, practices and identities, sexuality in Mongolia, as elsewhere, has been subject to change as Mongolian society transformed from an empire to a post-imperial regional power to a Qing colony to a socialist country, before embracing liberal democracy in the 1990s. Since every social change tends to become reflected in sexuality, this study takes into account a range of intertwined topics, including religious ideologies, political ideologies, law, gender and relationships between individuals and the state, all of which have evolved throughout Mongolia's history and require rethinking if one is to describe such a complex social phenomenon as human sexuality.
