Book Sex Drugs Ratt Roll

Download or read book Sex Drugs Ratt Roll written by Stephen Pearcy and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to heavy metal rock 'n' roll, circa 1980, when all you needed was the right look, burning ambition, and a chance. Stephen Pearcy and supergroup Ratt hit the bull's-eye. Cranking out metal just as metal got hot, Ratt was the perfect band at the perfect time, and their hit single "Round and Round" became a top-selling anthem. As Ratt scrambled up a wall of fame and wealth, so they experienced the gut-wrenching free fall, after too many hours in buses, planes, and limos; too many women; too many drugs; and all the personality clashes and ego trips that marked the beginning of the end. Pearcy offers a stunningly honest self-portrait of a man running on the fumes of ambition and loneliness as the party crashed. His rock 'n' roll confessional, by turns incredible, hilarious, and lyrical, is a story of survival--and a search for the things that matter most.--From publisher description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n Roll: The American Counterculture of the 1960s offers a unique examination of the cultural flowering that enveloped the United States during that early postwar decade. Robert C. Cottrell provides an enthralling view of the counterculture, beginning with an examination of American bohemia, the Lyrical Left of the pre-WWII era, and the hipsters. He delves into the Beats, before analyzing the counterculture that emerged on both the East and West coasts, but soon cropped up in the American heartland as well. Cottrell delivers something of a collective biography, through an exploration of the antics of seminal countercultural figures Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Timothy Leary, and Ken Kesey. Cottrell also presents fascinating chapters covering “the magic elixir of sex,” rock ‘n roll, the underground press, Haight-Ashbury, the literature that garnered the attention of many in the counterculture, Monterey Pop, the Summer of Love, the Death of Hippie, the March on the Pentagon, communes, Yippies, Weatherman, Woodstock, the Manson family, the women’s movement, and the decade’s legacies.

Book Sex Drugs Rock Roll and Nursing

Download or read book Sex Drugs Rock Roll and Nursing written by Raymond Moore and published by Raymond Moore. This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you read about what I got up to I know you'll probably think I got what I deserved. You're right — I totally agree. Many of you won't like me no doubt and that's ok — I understand, I really do. I'm not all bad, though. I left the Isle of Skye in the early eighties to start my nursing course in Edinburgh and it's fair to say that I embraced the Capital City's temptations with arms wide open. When I moved into a shared flat I met Bill, a musician, and got involved with his band Low Down - you know, helping them out, doing a bit of driving and humping gear - it was great fun. Low Down was truly phenomenal. Man, I totally loved their music. We took drugs, I mean, I took drugs. Nothing heavy like, just recreational and I met a lot of girls who I didn't treat right and I'm not proud of my behaviour — that's the truth. Look, nursing was a female-dominated profession and male nurses were thin on the ground -- the opportunities for getting up to mischief were many. I worked hard and played harder. A lot of stuff I regret now. Especially what I did to Lisa – and others. Anyway it couldn't last, could it? They way I was living – something had to give. And it did.

Book The Sociology of Youth Culture and Youth Subcultures Routledge Revivals

Download or read book The Sociology of Youth Culture and Youth Subcultures Routledge Revivals written by Michael Brake and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1980, this book argues that subcultures are formed in defence of collectively experienced problems that arise from defects and contradictions in social structures. Mike Brake looks at the development of post-war youth culture in a sociological context and considers the class base of youth subcultures, showing that they generate a form of collective identity from which an individual identity can be achieved, outside that ascribed by class, education or occupation. Black youth and young females are two groups given special attention here since Brake notes they are prone to particular problems resulting from the racism and sexism inherent in much youth culture.
