Book excerpt: "A convenience sample of community members in the Seward neighborhood reports that safety, affordable housing, and traffic management are concerns shared by the members participating in the study. The Seward Neighborhood Community Survey, guided by a working group of board members and staff from each organization, is a joint project of the Seward Neighborhood Group (SNG) and Seward Redesign. The project is intended to inform both organizations about perceptions, needs, and opportunities in the Seward neighborhood. The gathering of this data is important as SNG conducts a final review of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) Phase I and enters into planning for the second round of (NRP) funding, and as Seward Redesign develops a strategic plan to guide its community development activities for the next three to five years. The project was funded by the Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), which supports both organizations through its Minneapolis Fund for Neighborhood Development. Data collection for the project was based on two methods with two potentially overlapping samples. These two methods include; 1) intercept interviews of community members, and 2) self-administered response forms completed by community members. One hundred thirty community members were interviewed in September and October, 2000."--From executive summary (page 1).
