Book The Antiochene Crisis and Jubilee Theology in Daniel s Seventy Sevens

Download or read book The Antiochene Crisis and Jubilee Theology in Daniel s Seventy Sevens written by Dean R. Ulrich and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Antiochene Crisis and Jubilee Theology in Daniel’s Seventy Sevens, Dean R. Ulrich explores the joint interest of Daniel 9:24-27 in the Antiochene crisis of the second century B.C.E. and the jubilee theology conveyed by the prophecy’s structure. This study is necessary because previous scholarship, though recognizing the jubilee structure of the seventy sevens, has not sufficiently made the connection between jubilee and the six objectives of Daniel 9:24. Previous scholarship also has not adequately related the book’s interest in Antiochus IV to the hope of jubilee, which involves the full inheritance that God has promised to his people but that they had lost because of their compromises with Antiochus IV.

Book excerpt: 1977 was a momentous year. We called it seventy-seven; the DJ on Capital called it Seveny-Seven. If you did not listen to Capital Radio, you were not worth knowing. To listen to 'Radio One' was heresy, even if it was the weekend top forty, both radio stations aired their singles chart on the same day at the same time. 'Radio One' did not have adverts but we still listened to London's radio station because we could pick it up even west of Reading and, for us, London was the centre of the universe. Seventy-seven was a cause of great celebration, it was the Queen's Silver Jubilee and you can still see plaques and go on a Jubilee walk to commemorate her twenty fifth year on the throne. Nineteen fifty-two saw the first commercial passenger jet airliner entering service and the completion of the first atomic bomb, nineteen seventy-seven was a street party to celebrate the achievements of Elizabeth's reign, full stop.

It's summer in Leeds and the city is anxiously awaiting the Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's reign. Detective Bob Fraser and Jack Whitehead, a reporter at the Post, however, have other things on their minds-mainly the fact that someone is murdering prostitutes. The killer is quickly dubbed the “Yorkshire Ripper” and each man, on their own, works tirelessly to catch him. But their investigations turn grisly as they each engage in affairs with the prostitutes they are supposedly protecting. As the summer progresses, the killings accelerate and it seems as if Fraser and Whitehead are the only men who suspect or care that there may be more than one killer at large.

This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the use and interpretation of the Bible in the Dead Sea Scrolls and associated apocryphal, early Christian and rabbinic literature. The authors highlight the contribution of the new finds from the Judean Desert to such major issues as attitudes to the Bible and the Law in antiquity, continuity and innovation vis a vis the biblical world, common and unique dimensions of interpretation among different groups in the Second Temple and Rabbinic periods in particular, the Qumran sectarians and their opponents, New Testament authors and rabbinic Sages.

Book The Jubilee from Leviticus to Qumran

Download or read book The Jubilee from Leviticus to Qumran written by John Bergsma and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-03-31 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The observation of the Jubilee Year 2000 by many Christian groups worldwide generated renewed interest in the theological, historical, and socio-economic aspects of the biblical jubilee. This book begins with an analysis of the historical origins of the jubilee institution in ancient Israel, and then traces the reinterpretation of the jubilee and the text of Leviticus 25 through the Old Testament, the Second Temple literature, and the Qumran documents. It demonstrates that, with the passage of time, the socio-economic implementation of the jubilee is increasingly de-emphasized in favor of an eschatological interpretation, in which the jubilee itself functions as a type of the final age, and cycles of jubilee years are employed to calculate when this age will arrive.

Book Predicting the Past in the Ancient Near East

Download or read book Predicting the Past in the Ancient Near East written by Matthew Neujahr and published by Society of Biblical Lit. This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides an in-depth investigation of after-the-fact predictions in ancient Near Eastern texts from roughly 1200 B.C.E.–70 C.E. It argues that the Akkadian, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek works discussed are all part of a developing scribal discourse of “mantic historiography” by which scribes blend their local traditions of history writing and predictive texts to produce a new mode of historiographic expression. This in turn calls into question the use and usefulness of traditional literary categories such as “apocalypse” to analyze such works.
