One depicts the death of Wolfe, a scene familiar by copies and engravings of West's original. The other is a striking representation of the naval action Off La Hogue in 1692, a victory important to the British cause and an example of characteristic British seamanship. It may be incidentally mentioned that the canvas in each case is expansive, measuring eight feet in length and five feet four inches in height. Both pictures have attracted the attention of many visitors, who are always made welcome in the Department.
