Book Seven Transforming Gifts of Menopause

Download or read book Seven Transforming Gifts of Menopause written by Cheryl Bridges Johns and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Menopause is a dramatic but largely overlooked developmental window to the second half of life. Although today's women are more aware of and actively involved in mapping their menopausal journey than generations before, many still do not see menopause as a time of important psychological and spiritual transformation. This book goes far beyond hot flashes and gets to the very heart of the midlife journey, helping women find their unique voice and speak their truth in an era of #MeToo and #ChurchToo. Coming alongside readers as a wise spiritual guide, pastor and theologian Cheryl Bridges Johns identifies seven key developmental "tasks" of menopause and gives practical ways women can embrace each one. She encourages women to view these tasks as gifts as they experience the remarkable physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation that occurs in this stage of life. Written in a warm and conversational tone, this book helps women chart a course for the future, leading them to a renewed sense of identity, a more focused vision for life, and a deeper spirituality. Each chapter includes guided questions for personal reflection and study questions for group discussion.

Pharmaceutical companies are mass marketing hormones as fast as doctors can prescribe them, and menopausal seminars sponsored by these companies are crisscrossing the country in an effort to educate women on easing the physical pains of hormone deficiencies. Books likeThe Silent Passage,What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Menopause, andListening To Your Hormones are flying off the shelves because women are desperate to learn even more. And yet, these doctors, seminars, and books still haven't addressed what every transitional woman instinctively knows: Menopause is much more than just a list of physical ailments, menopause is a spiritual journey. The Seven Sacred Rites of Menopause: The Spiritual Journey to the Wise-Woman Years is a groundbreaking work that will usher in a new way for women to cope with the emotional and physical challenges of menopause. Venturing into uncharted territory, Kristi Meisenbach Boylan takes an intriguing and original look at the seven rituals that menopausal women move through on their voyage to the wise-woman years. Author Meisenbach Boylan believes that these seven ceremonial milestones should be viewed as celebrations--not as symptoms of an illness--and that the menopausal life passage isn't just about a woman's body fighting to correct hormonal imbalances, but is really about the soul trying to findits spiritual balance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An innovative 16-day plan that combines the fat-burning benefits of a ketogenic diet with the brain-clearing and keto-flu protection of alkaline food, by the USA Today bestselling author of The Hormone Fix. “A powerful program that paves the way for lasting health, longevity, and disease resistance.”—David Perlmutter, MD, New York Times bestselling author of Grain Brain Are you having a hard time losing weight? Do you suffer from brain fog, lack of focus, or poor memory? Do you run out of energy halfway through the day? Do you have unwanted cravings? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, join the club! In this revolutionary book, Dr. Anna Cabeca shares a proven way to finally give you the results you want, need, and deserve. There is no question that going keto works. This strict high-fat/low-carb diet denies the body glucose as a main source of energy and instead promotes the production and use of ketone bodies as fuel. It’s a great way to move you off a weight plateau, gain willpower, and get results fast. But going keto also often results in gastrointestinal discomfort, low energy, and moodiness—known as the “keto flu”—which makes the diet hard to sustain. The solution? Add alkaline foods—leafy greens, other vegetables, broths, healthy oils, nuts, and seeds—for a lifestyle that’s more sustainable and easier on your body. In other words: Go Keto-Green and thrive! A triple-board-certified physician, Dr. Anna Cabeca developed her method through years of careful patient and test-panel research. In Keto-Green 16, she explains the science behind her innovation: Hormone production dips as a woman ages, leading to increased visceral fat. By pairing keto-diet staples with foods that bring the body’s pH to a more alkaline level, you’ll shed belly fat while balancing the hormones responsible for that bulkier midsection. And by fueling your brain with ketones—like rocket fuel instead of gasoline—you’ll make better decisions, including healthier choices for what to eat. The unique nutritional balance of the Keto-Green 16 diet also boosts mood. With 16 days of what-to-eat instructions (including a version for vegetarians and vegans); more than 50 delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes; information about the 16 best alkaline foods; a 16-hour intermittent-fasting strategy; 16-minute HIIT exercise routines; and a chapter outlining the specifics of the nutritional plan just for men; Keto-Green 16 will ensure that you skip the flu and get on with rapid and amazing weight loss.

Download or read book Re enchanting the Text written by Cheryl Bridges Johns and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an age when the Bible has been stripped of its sacredness and functional biblical illiteracy reigns, this book makes the case that we must work to re-enchant the text in order to return the Bible to its rightful place in the lives of Christians. Cheryl Bridges Johns explains how the Enlightenment's turn to the rational human subject made it possible to objectify the Bible and has distorted our interpretations of Scripture. This move generated a belief that studying the Bible was primarily a means of supporting facts and providing evidence of competing visions of reality. This "modern" version of the Bible does not trouble our nights with apocalyptic images. It has been stripped of its power. She also shows that both "liberal" and "fundamentalist" interpretation are failed forms of disenchanted readings. Johns argues that we must rediscover the Bible as a sacred, dangerous, mysterious, and presence-filled wonderland to counteract biblical illiteracy in an increasingly post-Christian landscape.

Book The Pentecostal Gender Paradox

Download or read book The Pentecostal Gender Paradox written by Joseph Lee Dutko and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-11-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The distinct subjects of eschatology and gender equality have seen an explosion of interest in recent decades, particularly within Pentecostal scholarship. Pentecostalism is regarded ideally as both an eschatological and egalitarian movement. However, many Pentecostals have lamented the inconsistency between the early egalitarian impulse of the movement and its current restrictive practices. This situation has been described as the so-called Pentecostal “gender paradox,” referring to the conflicting freedoms and limitations experienced by Pentecostal women. Pentecostals have also recognized the waning eschatological fervor within the movement and its shifting eschatological convictions, leading to calls to rediscover the eschatological heart of the movement. Despite the renewed interest in both eschatology and women's equality, little research has been done to put these two areas into conversation with each other: eschatological convictions are often absent in the debate on gender roles in the church. For Pentecostals, eschatology has often been about urgency in “saving souls” rather than attending to social issues, but could Pentecostal eschatology be the key to (re)discovering greater equality for women in the church? Is the waning of both eschatology and women's equality within Pentecostalism potentially interrelated? For over one hundred years the role of women in Pentecostalism has been debated without a firm consensus. By examining gender solely through an eschatological lens in history, Scripture, and praxis, this work provides a valuable and creative contribution to one of the most important theological and global issues of our time, women's (in)equality. This book is also one of the first comprehensive studies to approach a single social issue solely through an eschatological lens and to provide attention to developing a thorough and methodologically connected eschatological praxis. By uncovering the unified eschatological-egalitarian narrative thread within both the Pentecostal and biblical story, this work suggests that the present end of women's inequality begins with fidelity to the future eschaton of gender equality.
