With compassion and grace, the co-authors outline how everyone may access the gift of Spontaneous Creation-Making and change dominant narratives of individualism. Discovering interconnectivity through art-care we can dream courageously together into the unknown possibilities of a precarious future. Art-care, as coined by the co-authors, is a matrixial form of communicaring through art and reverence. This theoretically informed and practice-based book bridges the individual with the communal in Creation-centred ways that interweave the many parts with the whole. It provides examples of teachings, practices and spontaneous creations of makers that will benefit those who want to integrate art-care into individual practices or group facilitation. This book benefits socially engaged artists, arts-based researchers, artist-philosophers, activists, students, teachers, organizers, therapists, caregivers, and more.

Book Beyond Communal and Individual Ownership

Download or read book Beyond Communal and Individual Ownership written by Leon Terrill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, Australian governments have introduced a series of land reforms in communities on Indigenous land. This book is the first in-depth study of these significant and far reaching reforms. It explains how the reforms came about, what they do and their consequences for Indigenous landowners and community residents. It also revisits the rationale for their introduction and discusses the significant gap between public debate about the reforms and their actual impact. Drawing on international research, the book describes how it is necessary to move beyond the concepts of communal and individual ownership in order to understand the true significance of the reforms. The book's fresh perspective on land reform and careful assessment of key land reform theories will be of interest to scholars of indigenous land rights, land law, indigenous studies and aboriginal culture not only in Australia but also in any other country with an interest in indigenous land rights.

Book Service Learning to Advance Access Success

Download or read book Service Learning to Advance Access Success written by Travis T. York and published by IAP. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the 90s and early 2000s, service-learning research was intensely focused on the student outcomes. That body of research has effectively brought service-learning from the fringes into the mainstream of institutionalized pedagogies. In the past decade service-learning research has experienced an infusion of exploration in three distinct ways: first, large-scale quantitative methodologies; second, a proliferation of research that has explored how different sub-groups of students experience the pedagogy differently, thusly resulting in variation among outcomes; and third, a focus on the experiences and outcomes associated for communities and community partners engaged in service-learning. In an effort to support these movements, this volume of the Advances in Service-Learning Research series, Service-Learning to Advance Access & Success: Bridging Institutional and Community Capacity, focuses on how service-learning can advance access and success. Not simply access and success of students, but the ways that service-learning can advance access and success for all through bridging institutional and community capacity building. The chapters in this volume serve as a testament to the ways in which service-learning research continue to be advanced by thoughtful scholar-practitioners. The 12 chapters included in this volume are organized into three sections. The first section focuses on how institutional and community partnerships can be leveraged to build community capacity. The second section focuses on how institutions might build their own capacity to effect change for the good of society. The third and final section focuses on six studies exploring the relationship service-learning pedagogy has with access and success for students. Of the six studies, three are situated within the context of teacher-preparation programs.

Book Communal Infrastructure in Slovenia

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Although growth of infrastructure services in Vietnam since the late 1980s greatly facilitated rapid growth in exports and gross domestic product (GDP), Vietnam's infrastructure still suffers from a number of major inadequacies. This report has three main objectives: to describe and assess the current status and performance of key infrastructure sectors; to describe and assess the policy, regulatory, and institutional environment for involving the private sector in those sectors; and to help policymakers in framing future reform and development strategies and to assist potential private sector investors in assessing investment opportunities.

Book From Poor Law to community care

Download or read book From Poor Law to community care written by Means, Robin and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 1998-09-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent community care changes have raised fundamental issues about the changing role of the public, voluntary and informal sectors in the provision of social care to older people. They have also raised issues about the health and social care interface, the extent to which services should be rationed and the respective roles of residential care and care at home. From Poor Law to community care sets these debates in the context of the historical growth of welfare services from the outbreak of the Second World War through to the establishment of social services departments in 1971. Based on extensive research on primary sources, such as the Public Records Office and interviews with key actors, the book considers the changing perceptions of the needs of elderly people, the extent to which they have been a priority for resources and the possibilities for a policy which combines respect for elderly people with an avoidance of the exploitation of relatives. This is an updated second edition of The development of welfare services for elderly people, first published by Croom Helm, 1985. It is essential reading for practitioners and policy makers interested in gerontology, policy studies, community care and postgraduate students studying and training in a range of health and social care related professions.

Book The Communal Experience of the Kibbutz

Download or read book The Communal Experience of the Kibbutz written by Joseph Blasi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Blasidocuments and describes the workings of an existing kibbutz society to provide a model for Utopian thinking and clear up confusion concerning Utopian values. He details the history and development of Kibbutz Vatik (a pseudonym), providing a systematic record of kibbutz culture: daily life and social arrangements, economic cooperation and work, politics, education, and attitudes of community members.Despite its advantages as a model Utopia, the kibbutz is not a perfect society. Having eliminated the most serious forms of social, economic, political, and educational fragmentation and violence, the communal group is left with the complicated and mounting problems of keeping a fellowship alive and well. Blasi assesses the community's advantages and disadvantages, illuminating the interlocking dilemmas that cut across social and political concerns. The Communal Experience of the Kibbutz updates our knowledge of kibbutz life in light of recent research. It gives a detailed account of the Utopian community in the kibbutz and its activities. The special quality of the kibbutz, Blasi argues, lies not so much in its proven success vis-a-vis other communal societies, but in that it is a communal alternative that most Western peoples can readily visualize as a real option.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Shakers to the Branch Davidians, America's communal utopians have captured the popular imagination. Seventeen original essays here demonstrate the relevance of such groups to the mainstream of American social, religious, and economic life. The contributors examine the beliefs and practices of the most prominent utopian communities founded before 1965, including the long-overlooked Catholic monastic communities and Jewish agricultural colonies. Also featured are the Ephrata Baptists, Moravians, Shakers, Harmonists, Hutterites, Inspirationists of Amana, Mormons, Owenites, Fourierists, Icarians, Janssonists, Theosophists, Cyrus Teed's Koreshans, and Father Divine's Peace Mission. Based on a new conceptual framework known as developmental communalism, the book examines these utopian movements throughout the course of their development--before, during, and after their communal period. Each chapter includes a brief chronology, giving basic information about the group discussed. An appendix presents the most complete list of American utopian communities ever published. The contributors are Jonathan G. Andelson, Karl J. R. Arndt, Pearl W. Bartelt, Priscilla J. Brewer, Donald F. Durnbaugh, Lawrence Foster, Carl J. Guarneri, Robert V. Hine, Gertrude E. Huntington, James E. Landing, Dean L. May, Lawrence J. McCrank, J. Gordon Melton, Donald E. Pitzer, Robert P. Sutton, Jon Wagner, and Robert S. Weisbrot.

Book Comparative Perspectives on Communal Lands and Individual Ownership

Download or read book Comparative Perspectives on Communal Lands and Individual Ownership written by Lee Godden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-02-26 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparative Perspectives on Communal Lands and Individual Ownership: Sustainable Futures addresses property and land title as central mechanisms governing access to communally-held land and resources. The collection assesses the effectiveness of property law and tenure models developed around concepts of individual ownership, for achieving long-term environmental and economic sustainability for indigenous peoples and local communities. It explores the momentum for change in the international realm, and then develops a comparative focus across Australia, North America, Africa, Peru, New Zealand and the Pacific region, examining the historical and current impacts of individuation of title on the customary law and practice of indigenous peoples and local communities. Themes of property, privatisation and sustainable communities are developed in theoretical analyses and case studies from these jurisdictions. The case studies throw into sharp relief how questions of land law and resources management should not be separated from wider issues about the long-term viability of communities. Comparative analysis allows consideration of how western models of land tenure and land title might better accommodate the exercise of traditional practices of indigenous peoples and local communities, while still promoting autonomy, choice and economic development. This volume will be of interest to scholars and professionals working in the fields of property law, land reform, policy and planning, indigenous law and customary law, environmental sustainability, development and resource management.
