Book Service Before Self But Without Self there is No Service

Download or read book Service Before Self But Without Self there is No Service written by Michael L. Yamzon and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The United States Air Force's core values are principles that direct, shape, and influence Airmen’s conduct. They are institutionalized at basic military training, reinforced in technical training, and operationalized during day-to-day activities. Unfortunately, the core value service before self introduces subjectivity due to the servicemember’s lack of familiarity with associated components contained within Air Force Doctrine Document 1-1. Many Airmen interpret service before self as subordinating one's physical and mental wellbeing (self) to operational needs (service). The subjectivity and misinterpretation of the core value service before self introduce varying understandings and misapplication that lead to worklife imbalance and mental health disorders. This paper will propose that the core value service before self prompts Airmen to subordinate their wellbeing and mental health to operational and organizational requirements. The research will reflect on how the core value results in work-life imbalance, identify the impacts of the misinterpretation and misapplication of the core value and correlate mental health disorders and associated stigma with service before self. The author will share personal observations of the misapplication of service before self and its impact on Airmen's quality of life. Eric Klein’s Four Quadrant model will rationalize the need to update current core values. Finally, the paper will recommend a set of core values that emphasize Airmen (Airmen First, Integrity Always, and Excellence in All We Do) because without Airmen...there is no mission!"--Abstract.

Download or read book Service Before Self written by Steven A. Simon and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-07-13 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Service Before Self recounts the troubled relationship of a father and his son. Told in alternating points-of-view, the novel allows the reader to get into the minds of the two proud individuals as they struggle to cope with their disappointments and demons. For the first time in his life, Air Force Lieutenant General Ron Cody has nothing to do. His retirement ceremony two days before had been wonderful. The event had, however, been marred by the absence of Ron’s 19-year-old son, Josh. Among the sacrifices Ron made in his pursuit of career success was time with his family. His strained relationship with Josh is testament to that sacrifice. Attempts to motivate his son led to resentment and distrust. If only Josh could look up to Ron as Ron looked up to his own father, a man he had never known. George Cody had died during the D-Day invasion when Ron was only five years old. The bitterness Josh feels is due to his father having been largely absent for most of his childhood. The General’s Air Force service just seemed more important. Josh also resented his father’s expectation of perfection. Nothing Josh did was good enough for his old man. Josh had learned a painful lesson when Ron withheld college funds after Josh didn’t earn the B average his father deemed the minimum acceptable grades. In anger, Josh had moved out of the house and was working two menial jobs just to pay his expenses. Ron must deal with his feelings of confusion and worthlessness due to the abrupt end of his career and the sorry state of his family. He is further rocked by increasing doubts that his own father was the war hero Ron had been led to believe. For Josh, things look up when he meets a young woman and eventually becomes close to her nine-year-old son. When the woman returns to the abusive man who had fathered her son, Josh’s world threatens to collapse. As events unfold, both men discover that there is more than one way to serve. Even more consequentially, they are forced to confront the tremendous power and importance of the father-son bond. Service Before Self is Steve Simon’s second novel, following 2000’s On the Dead Run (Xlibris Corporation).

Book An Essay on Self Management

Download or read book An Essay on Self Management written by Dr.N.N.Shrivastava and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two kinds of worlds: one inside and the other outside each individual. Individuals have to manage both worlds. It is put forward for consideration that the management of the world inside is a precondition for an effective management of the world outside oneself, namely the management of the money, man, material, machine, marketing, etc. The study of the world inside an individual constitutes the subject matter of self-management. An individual is a living organism. The organism is self-contained, self-regulated, and self-sustained. The management of a self-regulated order appears to be unnecessary. But every individual is endowed with the power to choose freely and make ones own decisions. The use of the power of conscious thought by individuals may or may not disturb the self-regulated order of the living organism.

Download or read book Service above Self written by Erika Cornelius Smith and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2018 midterm elections were both record-breaking and pathbreaking. Americans elected four women to the Senate along with twenty-four women to the House. At the same time, nearly two hundred veterans were on ballots across the country, including a dozen women with military service experience, three of whom won their races. Two years later, female veterans campaigned for office at every level—including a run for presidential nominee of a major party. Service above Self: Women Veterans in American Politics explores this burgeoning area of interest by looking closely at the careers of former servicewomen in US politics. Despite the growing presence of women candidates with military service or intelligence backgrounds in elected office throughout the United States, this is the first book to examine the motivation, messaging, and connections between military and public service for female veterans. Erika Cornelius Smith unravels the stories of the many trailblazing women—including Elaine Luria, Chrissy Houlahan, Elissa Slotkin, Tammy Duckworth, Joni Ernst, Martha McSally, and Tulsi Gabbard—and points the way for future studies. Inspired by their diverse paths to politics, the unique ways in which they communicate their experiences, as well as their policy positions, this work explores several important questions: What motivates servicewomen to run for office? When do their backgrounds in military service align with their mission for public service? How does experience as a servicemember affect their ability to navigate gendered stereotypes about female candidates and foreign policy? The answers revealed in their personal and professional narratives shed light on this historically significant cohort of political leaders. The first scholarly synthesis of women with military, quasimilitary, or intelligence backgrounds competing in political campaigns, Service above Self examines a long history of US women who served in or adjacent to the US military and translated those experiences into elected office. It is the first analysis of how they transitioned from national defense to public service—and what they did when they got to Washington, DC.
