Book Understanding Least Squares Estimation and Geomatics Data Analysis

Download or read book Understanding Least Squares Estimation and Geomatics Data Analysis written by John Olusegun Ogundare and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a modern approach to least squares estimation and data analysis for undergraduate land surveying and geomatics programs Rich in theory and concepts, this comprehensive book on least square estimation and data analysis provides examples that are designed to help students extend their knowledge to solving more practical problems. The sample problems are accompanied by suggested solutions, and are challenging, yet easy enough to manually work through using simple computing devices, and chapter objectives provide an overview of the material contained in each section. Understanding Least Squares Estimation and Geomatics Data Analysis begins with an explanation of survey observables, observations, and their stochastic properties. It reviews matrix structure and construction and explains the needs for adjustment. Next, it discusses analysis and error propagation of survey observations, including the application of heuristic rule for covariance propagation. Then, the important elements of statistical distributions commonly used in geomatics are discussed. Main topics of the book include: concepts of datum definitions; the formulation and linearization of parametric, conditional and general model equations involving typical geomatics observables; geomatics problems; least squares adjustments of parametric, conditional and general models; confidence region estimation; problems of network design and pre-analysis; three-dimensional geodetic network adjustment; nuisance parameter elimination and the sequential least squares adjustment; post-adjustment data analysis and reliability; the problems of datum; mathematical filtering and prediction; an introduction to least squares collocation and the kriging methods; and more. Contains ample concepts/theory and content, as well as practical and workable examples Based on the author's manual, which he developed as a complete and comprehensive book for his Adjustment of Surveying Measurements and Special Topics in Adjustments courses Provides geomatics undergraduates and geomatics professionals with required foundational knowledge An excellent companion to Precision Surveying: The Principles and Geomatics Practice Understanding Least Squares Estimation and Geomatics Data Analysis is recommended for undergraduates studying geomatics, and will benefit many readers from a variety of geomatics backgrounds, including practicing surveyors/engineers who are interested in least squares estimation and data analysis, geomatics researchers, and software developers for geomatics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this reference and handbook is to describe and to derive the analytic solutionsoftheequationsofsatellitemotionperturbedbyextraterrestrialandgeo- tential disturbances of the second order. The equations of satellite motion perturbed by extraterrestrial disturbances are solved by means of discretization and appr- imated potential function as well as Gaussian equations. The equations perturbed by geopotential disturbances are solved by symbolic mathematical operations. The traditional problem of singularity in the solutions is solved by so-called singulari- free orbit theory. Simpli?ed disturbed equations of motion are proposed to simplify the solutions. Applications of the theory for analytic orbit determination are also discussed. Indeed, this is the ?rst book since the satellite era, which describes s- tematically the orbit theory with analytical solutions, with respect to all of extrat- restrial and geopotential disturbances of the second order, and the solutions are free of singularity. Based on such a theory, the algorithms of orbit determination can be renewed; deeper insight into the physics of disturbances becomes possible; the way to a variety of new applications and re?nements is opened. My primary knowledge of the orbit theory came from my education of mat- matics while studying physics and theoretical mechanics (1981). My ?rst practical experience with orbit came from the research activity at the Technical University (TU) Berlin on orbit corrections of the satellite altimetry data (1988–1992). The extensive experience on orbit came from the GPS/Galileo software development for orbit determination and geopotential mapping at the GFZ (2001–2004).

Download or read book Global Positioning System written by Bernhard Hofmann-Wellenhof and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to Dr. Benjamin William Remondi for many reasons. The project of writing a Global Positioning System (GPS) book was con ceived in April 1988 at a GPS meeting in Darmstadt, Germany. Dr. Remondi discussed with me the need for an additional GPS textbook and suggested a possible joint effort. In 1989, I was willing to commit myself to such a project. Unfortunately, the timing was less than ideal for Dr. Remondi. Therefore, I decided to start the project with other coauthors. Dr. Remondi agreed and indicated his willingness to be a reviewer. I selected Dr. Herbert Lichtenegger, my colleague from the Technical University Graz, Austria, and Dr. James Collins from Rockville, Maryland, U.S.A. In my opinion, the knowledge of the three authors should cover the wide spectrum of GPS. Dr. Lichtenegger is a geodesist with broad experience in both theory and practice. He has specialized his research to geodetic astron omy including orbital theory and geodynamical phenomena. Since 1986, Dr. Lichtenegger's main interest is dedicated to GPS. Dr. Collins retired from the U.S. National Geodetic Survey in 1980, where he was the Deputy Director. For the past ten years, he has been deeply involved in using GPS technology with an emphasis on surveying. Dr. Collins was the founder and president of Geo/Hydro Inc. My own background is theoretically oriented. My first chief, Prof. Dr. Peter Meissl, was an excellent theoretician; and my former chief, Prof. Dr.mult. Helmut Moritz, fortunately, still is.

Book Towards a rigorous fusion of GNSS and InSAR observations for the purpose of water vapor retrieval

Download or read book Towards a rigorous fusion of GNSS and InSAR observations for the purpose of water vapor retrieval written by Heublein, Marion and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the framework of the rigorous fusion of GNSS and InSAR observations, the presented work carries out at a straightforward comparison of the wet delay, caused by water vapor, derived from GNSS and InSAR. The contributions of the two sensors to the wet delay are compared in the line of sight towards the SAR satellite. Comparisons of GNSS observations with the satellite-directed InSAR data show that only a partial component of the wet delay remains after the interferogram formation.
