Book Synchronization and Title Sequences

Download or read book Synchronization and Title Sequences written by Michael Betancourt and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synchronization and Title Sequences proposes a semiotic analysis of the synchronization of image and sound in motion pictures using title sequences. Through detailed historical close readings of title designs that use either voice-over, an instrumental opening, or title song to organize their visuals—from Vertigo (1958) to The Player (1990) and X-Men: First Class (2011)—author Michael Betancourt develops a foundational framework for the critique and discussion of motion graphics’ use of synchronization and sound, as well as a theoretical description of how sound-image relationships develop on-screen.

  • Author : Mari Riess Jones

Download or read book Time Will Tell written by Mari Riess Jones and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-19 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attention is a central concept in psychology. The term 'attention' itself has persisted, even though it implies a static, insulated capacity that we use when it is necessary to focus upon some relevant or stimulating event. Riess Jones presents a different way of thinking about attention; one that describes it as a continuous activity that is based on energy fluctuating in time. A majority of attention research fails to examine influence of event time structure (i.e., a speech utterance) on listeners' moment-to-moment attending. General research ignores listeners endowed with innate, as well as acquired, temporal biases. Here, attending is portrayed as a dynamic interaction of an individual within his or her surroundings. Importantly, this interaction involves synchronicity between an attender and external events. This emphasis on time and synchronicity distinguishes the author's theory, called Dynamic Attending Theory (DAT), from other approaches to attending which characterize attention metaphorically as a filter, resource pool, spotlight, and so on. Recent research from neuroscience has lent support to Riess Jones' theory, and the goal of this book is to bring this new research as well as her own to the wide audience of psychologists interested in attention more broadly.

Book Practical Mathematics for AI and Deep Learning

Download or read book Practical Mathematics for AI and Deep Learning written by Tamoghna Ghosh and published by BPB Publications. This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Codebook to Navigate Through the Fast-changing AI Landscape KEY FEATURES ● Access to industry-recognized AI methodology and deep learning mathematics with simple-to-understand examples. ● Encompasses MDP Modeling, the Bellman Equation, Auto-regressive Models, BERT, and Transformers. ● Detailed, line-by-line diagrams of algorithms, and the mathematical computations they perform. DESCRIPTION To construct a system that may be referred to as having ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ it is important to develop the capacity to design algorithms capable of performing data-based automated decision-making in conditions of uncertainty. Now, to accomplish this goal, one needs to have an in-depth understanding of the more sophisticated components of linear algebra, vector calculus, probability, and statistics. This book walks you through every mathematical algorithm, as well as its architecture, its operation, and its design so that you can understand how any artificial intelligence system operates. This book will teach you the common terminologies used in artificial intelligence such as models, data, parameters of models, and dependent and independent variables. The Bayesian linear regression, the Gaussian mixture model, the stochastic gradient descent, and the backpropagation algorithms are explored with implementation beginning from scratch. The vast majority of the sophisticated mathematics required for complicated AI computations such as autoregressive models, cycle GANs, and CNN optimization are explained and compared. You will acquire knowledge that extends beyond mathematics while reading this book. Specifically, you will become familiar with numerous AI training methods, various NLP tasks, and the process of reducing the dimensionality of data. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN ● Learn to think like a professional data scientist by picking the best-performing AI algorithms. ● Expand your mathematical horizons to include the most cutting-edge AI methods. ● Learn about Transformer Networks, improving CNN performance, dimensionality reduction, and generative models. ● Explore several neural network designs as a starting point for constructing your own NLP and Computer Vision architecture. ● Create specialized loss functions and tailor-made AI algorithms for a given business application. WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR Everyone interested in artificial intelligence and its computational foundations, including machine learning, data science, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing (NLP), both researchers and professionals, will find this book to be an excellent companion.
