Book Sensitivity Operators and Associated System Concepts for Linear Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Sensitivity Operators and Associated System Concepts for Linear Dynamic Systems written by J. Gary Reid and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Output parameter sensitivity for linear dynamic systems is treated in an operator framework. Parameter sensitivity is derived for a general linear system defined as the sum of linear operators on the initial state and control input. The sensitivity-related properties of insensitivity, sensitivity controllability, parameter identification and identifiability, and optimal control design for both minimum sensitivity and improved identification are then dealt with in terms of the sensitivity operators and their adjoints. This theoretical foundation is applied to give fundamental descriptions of the parameter sensitivities in linear ordinary differential equation systems. The discussion focuses on linear time-invariant systems where a new algebraic representation of the parameter sensitivities is obtained.

Book Information Linkage Between Applied Mathematics and Industry

Download or read book Information Linkage Between Applied Mathematics and Industry written by Arthur Schoenstadt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Linkage between Applied Mathematics and Industry II presents the proceedings of the Second Annual Workshop on the Information Linkage between Applied Mathematics and Industry, held in Monterey, California on February 22–24, 1979. This book focuses on the linear systems of equations in practical applications. Comprised of two parts encompassing 29 chapters, this volume starts with an analysis of the undetermined systems of linear algebraic equations that are frequently encountered in solving physical problems. This book then discusses the guiding principles of the methods used to stabilize the problem against ill-conditioning and rank deficiency. This text explains the methods that are developed to solve the typical radiation spectrum unfolding problems. Other chapters describe the mathematical technique that is the basis of unfolding code called FERD. Finally, the reader is introduced to integral and differential equations by using a point-by-point approach. Mathematicians, engineers, researchers, and students will find this book extremely useful.

Book Control and Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems written by C. T. Leondes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-11-30 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Applications reviews progress in the field of control and dynamic systems theory and applications, with emphasis on filtering and stochastic control in dynamic systems. Topics include linear and nonlinear filtering techniques; concepts and methods in stochastic control; and discrete-time optical stochastic observers. The theory of disturbance-accommodating controllers is also presented. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with an overview of filtering and stochastic control in dynamic systems, followed by a discussion on linear and nonlinear filtering techniques. The reader is then introduced to concepts and methods in stochastic control, as well as the innovations process and its applications to sensitivity analysis and system identification. Subsequent chapters focus on the status of observer theory and its major results as applied to discrete-time linear systems; the properties of the class of discrete-time Riccati equations that arise in the filtering problem; and the theory of disturbance-accommodating controllers. The identification of noise characteristics in a Kalman filter and estimation of adaptive minimum variance in discrete-time linear systems round out the book. This monograph will be useful to practicing technologists and research workers interested in filtering and stochastic control in dynamic systems.

Book Sensitivity Analysis in Linear Systems

Download or read book Sensitivity Analysis in Linear Systems written by Assem Deif and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A text surveying perturbation techniques and sensitivity analysis of linear systems is an ambitious undertaking, considering the lack of basic comprehensive texts on the subject. A wide-ranging and global coverage of the topic is as yet missing, despite the existence of numerous monographs dealing with specific topics but generally of use to only a narrow category of people. In fact, most works approach this subject from the numerical analysis point of view. Indeed, researchers in this field have been most concerned with this topic, although engineers and scholars in all fields may find it equally interesting. One can state, without great exaggeration, that a great deal of engineering work is devoted to testing systems' sensitivity to changes in design parameters. As a rule, high-sensitivity elements are those which should be designed with utmost care. On the other hand, as the mathematical modelling serving for the design process is usually idealized and often inaccurately formulated, some unforeseen alterations may cause the system to behave in a slightly different manner. Sensitivity analysis can help the engineer innovate ways to minimize such system discrepancy, since it starts from the assumption of such a discrepancy between the ideal and the actual system.

Book A Practical Approach to Dynamical Systems for Engineers

Download or read book A Practical Approach to Dynamical Systems for Engineers written by Patricia Mellodge and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Practical Approach to Dynamical Systems for Engineers takes the abstract mathematical concepts behind dynamical systems and applies them to real-world systems, such as a car traveling down the road, the ripples caused by throwing a pebble into a pond, and a clock pendulum swinging back and forth. Many relevant topics are covered, including modeling systems using differential equations, transfer functions, state-space representation, Hamiltonian systems, stability and equilibrium, and nonlinear system characteristics with examples including chaos, bifurcation, and limit cycles. In addition, MATLAB is used extensively to show how the analysis methods are applied to the examples. It is assumed readers will have an understanding of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and an interest in mechanical and electrical dynamical systems. - Presents applications in engineering to show the adoption of dynamical system analytical methods - Provides examples on the dynamics of automobiles, aircraft, and human balance, among others, with an emphasis on physical engineering systems - MATLAB and Simulink are used throughout to apply the analysis methods and illustrate the ideas - Offers in-depth discussions of every abstract concept, described in an intuitive manner, and illustrated using practical examples, bridging the gap between theory and practice - Ideal resource for practicing engineers who need to understand background theory and how to apply it

Book Parameter Sensitivity of Linear Time invariant Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Parameter Sensitivity of Linear Time invariant Dynamic Systems written by Devendar Chinchode Reddy and published by . This book was released on 1967* with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several possible sets of sensitivity functions are defined both in the frequency domain and state space representation of the system. These functions relate 'small' changes in system parameters, that inevitably occur in the assembly of the operation of a plant, to the characteristic roots of the system or some measures of system performance. The linear or approximately linear dynamical system is specially the object of the investigation. A new approach for the analysis of system behavior when subjected to parameter variations is indicated. The necessary and sufficient conditions for a totally parameter invariant response in the presence of small but arbitary parameter changes are derived. Finally, the new approach of analysis is applied to a practical problem of interest, and a possible synthesis procedure is indicated for the reduction of sensitivity to parameter changes. (Author).
