Book Analysis of Multiple Cracks in an Infinite Functionally Graded Plate

Download or read book Analysis of Multiple Cracks in an Infinite Functionally Graded Plate written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general methodology was constructed to develop the fundamental solution for a crack embedded in an infinite non-homogeneous material in which the shear modulus varies exponentially with the y coordinate. The fundamental solution was used to generate a solution to fully interactive multiple crack problems for stress intensity factors and strain energy release rates. Parametric studies were conducted for two crack configurations. The model displayed sensitivity to crack distance, relative angular orientation, and to the coefficient of nonhomogeneity.Shbeeb, N. Book FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH ANALYSIS MODELS FOR FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIALS

Download or read book FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH ANALYSIS MODELS FOR FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIALS written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study is to develop crack growth analysis methods for functionally graded materials under mode I cyclic loading by using finite element technique. The study starts with the analysis of test specimens which are given in ASTM standard E399. The material properties of specimens are assumed to be changing along the thickness direction according to a presumed variation function used for the modeling of functionally graded materials. The results of the study reveal the influence of different material variation functions on the crack growth behavior. In the second part, the growth of an elliptical crack which is a common case in engineering applications is analyzed. First, mode I cycling loading is applied perpendicular to the crack plane and crack growth profiles for a certain number of cycles are obtained for homogeneous materials. Then, the code is extended for the analysis functionally graded materials. The material properties are assumed to vary as an exponential function along the major or minor axis direction of the crack. The results can be used to examine the crack profile and material constants’ influence for a certain number of cyclic loading.

Book ICCS20 20th International Conference on Composite Structures

Download or read book ICCS20 20th International Conference on Composite Structures written by Nicholas Fantuzzi and published by Società Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite materials have aroused a great interest over the last few decades, as proven by the huge number of scientific papers and industrial progress. The increase in the use of composite structures in different engineering practices justify the present international meeting where researches from every part of the globe can share and discuss the recent advancements regarding the use of structural components within advanced applications such as buckling, vibrations, repair, reinforcements, concrete, composite laminated materials and more recent metamaterials. Studies about composite structures are truly multidisciplinary and the given contributions can help other researches and professional engineers in their own field. This Conference is suitable as a reference for engineers and scientists working in the professional field, in the industry and the academia and it gives the possibility to share recent advancements in different engineering practices to the outside world. This book aims to collect selected plenary and key-note lectures of this International Conference. For this reason, the establishment of this 20th edition of International Conference on Composite Structures has appeared appropriate to continue what has been begun during the previous editions. ICCS wants to be an occasion for many researchers from each part of the globe to meet and discuss about the recent advancements regarding the use of composite structures, sandwich panels, nanotechnology, bio-composites, delamination and fracture, experimental methods, manufacturing and other countless topics that have filled many sessions during this conference. As a proof of this event, which has taken place in Paris (France), selected plenary and key-note lectures have been collected in the present book.
