Book The Impact of the National Curriculum on the Teaching of Five Year Olds

Download or read book The Impact of the National Curriculum on the Teaching of Five Year Olds written by Theo Cox and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1994. One of the most neglected areas of research and thus writing is the world of the infant school child. Those who know it best are teachers who tend not to write. Those who write most are academics and even they venture rarely into this area. This book is based on research funded by the University of Wales. A number of teachers in a Welsh LEA were interviewed over time as the National Curriculum was being introduced up to Key Stage 1. The structured interviews covered a wide range of topics related to the anticipated and actual efforts of the National Curriculum at this key stage including curriculum planning, assessment, teaching methods, and organization. Teachers' attitudes to the curriculum were explored through a short attitude test. The resulting data provides in depth the first such examination and is a resource not only in itself but for all those researchers on change agents and restructuring.

Book Modern Languages Across the Curriculum

Download or read book Modern Languages Across the Curriculum written by Michael Grenfell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-01-14 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out the agenda for the future of modern language teaching in schools. It aims to look beyond the dominant methods of second language teaching to a new approach emphasising the integration of language learning within the wider curriculum. Through research and case studies from the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Finland, the book shows how teachers and policy makers are increasingly moving towards a system where second languages are taught through other curriculum subjects, rather than alongside them. Key areas covered are: * recent trends and issues in the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages * the rationale for integrating languages across the curriculum * how cross-curricular language teaching is developing across Europe * practical materials and useful ideas for teachers and policy makers This timely book will interest all foreign language teachers, particularly those on in-service or higher level degree courses. It will also be useful reading for student teachers and educators, and policy makers, internationally.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text discusses the theory and practice of several important areas of cross-curricular work in primary schools. It uses the National Curriculum Council's categories of themes, skills and dimensions to examine what is involved in such practice and to consider its current status in schools and future possibilities.; Providing practical suggestions for more well- established areas such as environmental studies, it also examines topical but under-represented themes, skills and dimensions such as media education, pupil self-assessment and discipline. The authors argue that cross-curricular practice both contributes to National Curriculum requirements and gives these requirements overall coherence. Cross- curricular practice also enables children to develop the knowledge, skills and concepts that are of value in coping with, and enjoying, the complexities of the 21st century. Suggestions are provided on how to provide leadership and stimulate staff interest in these areas by reviewing existing policies, teaching and resources.
