Book Senior Officer Debriefing Report MACV and 25th Infantry Division Period March 1969 to December 1970

Download or read book Senior Officer Debriefing Report MACV and 25th Infantry Division Period March 1969 to December 1970 written by Edward Bautz (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th Infantry Division has maintained an active program for training and combined operations with RVNAF and Territorial force units throughout the Division AO since 1967. Throughout 1969 and early 1970 combined operations were emphasized by all Divisional units. However, while combined operations were successful in improving the operational ability of Vietnamese forces in many areas, they fell short of the ultimate objective. Most frequently, combined operations were planned and supervised by US leaders and US forces provided the preponderance of combat power in the operations. Even when this was not the case, the US element and Vietnamese unit usually worked as separate though coordinated maneuver elements, with the net result that the Vietnamese leadership and staff rarely benefited. The Cambodian cross-border operations provided regular ARVN forces the first real test of independent operations from planning through execution; resulting in high esprit and unit confidence that can only be obtained through success on actual operations.

Book Senior Officer Debriefing Report US Army Support Command Da Nang Period 15 October 1969 to 27 Jul 1970

Download or read book Senior Officer Debriefing Report US Army Support Command Da Nang Period 15 October 1969 to 27 Jul 1970 written by H. D. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The supply system in Vietnam was considered to be most responsive. Material readiness rates in Vietnam across the board were very high. After shifting from parcel post (and thereby air transportation) to over-the-road movement of Class IX repair parts from the Army depot to outlying direct support units, as much as five days of shipping time were saved. This, in turn, impacted on the volume of supplies required in the system and also on the timeliness of repair of materiel which was deadlined. The increased utilization of the rail system between Da Nang and Phu Bai reduced the necessity for both over-the-road and sea transportation for low priority goods. Economies in the use of drayage transportation have already been effected by the thruput of Class I and Class IV commodities direct from the Deep Water Port to the ultimate customer. As Local Nationals can be trained in many of the logistical skills such as truck driving, key punch operation, food handling, warehousing, receiving, shipping, MHE operation, and so forth, Type A military units can be effectively changed to Type B units and ultimately can be reduced to TDA organizations that would include a minimum of US Army managerial personnel. Through the medium of Project Buddy, the command has been quite successful in providing on-the-job training and classes for the ARVN logistical personnel. Retrograde and disposal operations, while among the more important of the command's several missions, will continue to increase in importance as more and more troops are withdrawn from MR-I.

This book was released on 1971 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report covers the operation of a corps level logistical command in support of United States, Korean, Australian and Vietnamese forces during counterinsurgency operations in the Republic of Vietnam from October 1969 to September 1970. As one of the four logistical support commands subordinate to Headquarters, USARV, the USASUPCOM-CRB has the mission to provide supply, maintenance and service support, including transportation, to US and other Free World Forces located in the southern half of Military Region II. The area covers about 15,500 square miles. Logistical support is provided to approximately 68,317 troops and civilians, US Army troops comprising less than half the total. This support command additionally provides backup support to the other three support commands. For example, the ammunition safety level of the Da Nang Support Command is stocked in the Ammunition Storage Areas at Cam Ranh Bay. A phase down of the Qui Nhon Support Command was initiated and has been continuing. This will gradually centralize logistical support to all MR II at Cam Rahn Bay. Support to Qui Nhon will be accomplished by employing containerization and Roll-On/Roll-Off transportation techniques already tested and conventional break bulk supply operations. Qui Nhon Support Command will continue to be supported through the port of Qui Nhon.

This book was released on 1971 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary mission of the USASUPCOM, QN is to provide logistical support to US and Free World Military Assistance Forces (FWMAF) operating within Military Region II (North). This has been a rapidly changing mission within the recent past because of the following primary factors: (1) Continuing drawdown and keystone of US units; (2) Almost constant reorganization and relocation of remaining US units, both tactical and logistical, to adjust for changes in mission, the tactical situation and drawdown of other US units; (3) The changing nature of the political as well as the military (both tactical and logistical) situation within MR II (N) and in particular within Binh Dinh Province and the Qui Nhon City area; and (4) The diversion of significant numbers of troop units and personnel on normally extremely short notice from this command to support military operations in MR I during the January - March 1971 timeframe.
