Book Senior Adventures Plus

Download or read book Senior Adventures Plus written by John F. Mitchell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At David’s (3rd son) invitation, Ruth and I decided to make a trip to Florida and view the planetary launch to Jupiter of the Lucy Spacecraft at 5:34 AM on Saturday October 16th. In addition, we planned to visit Tommy (2nd son) and Laurel, his wife. Also, as long as we were down there, we scheduled to drive to Orlando and spend a few days at Disney World, since Ruth had never been to the Magic Kingdom in Florida. All the preparations were made well in advance. I booked a round trip ticket on the AMTRAK auto train to leave the Lorton, VA station at 4:00 PM on Thursday October 14th and return one week later. I had a confirmed reservation. The train was scheduled to arrive at Sanford, FL by 8:00 AM, the next day. While waiting for the launch, I had made a two-night reservation at the Patrick Air (now called Space) Force Base Visitor Officers Quarters (VOQ). We planned on staying four nights with Charlie (4th son) in the Disney World area at his “time-share” located a few miles away from the entertainment center. These were the plans. They were not to be accomplished exactly due to many challenges and frustrations. After a leisurely lunch at one of Ashby Ponds restaurants, we went back to our apartment, finished packing, and sat around until three hours prior to the train’s departure. On the way down to Lorton at about 3 o’clock, I received a cell phone call from the train dispatcher inquiring about our location. I thought that odd. But I told him we should be there in plenty of time. The next thing I heard was that we should have been at the station no later than 2:30 PM. I looked at my ticket and discovered mixed in with ten other footnotes that were each one millimeter high, the notation that all passengers and vehicles must be checked in by 2:30 PM. When we got to the station at 3:30 PM we were refused boarding even though we had a confirmed reservation made many weeks previously (Strike 1). An offer was made to book us on the next day’s trip, but that would mean we would miss the launch.

Book Please Remember My Name At My Funeral

Download or read book Please Remember My Name At My Funeral written by Fred Zobel and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How would you like to be remembered at your funeral or memorial service? Perhaps you don't care although that's hard to believe. Would you care if the officiating person even mentions your name or anything about a few personal accomplishments or family relationships? As an emloyee of a funeral home following retirement from the United Methodist Church, the author witnessed numerous funeral services led by various clergy persons of different faith groups. Some services were well thought out and brought hope and healing to surviving persons. However, a number of those services indicated the opposite--services that were lethargic and impersonal by officiants who hardly mentioned a word about the deceased person including their name. It was almost as though the deceased person barely entered or exited their life's journey without any impact. The title of the book comes from some of those reflections while employed at the funeral home. The first part of the book provides some insights about funeral services, reflections on grief practices and cultural mores, and the raising of several issues that challenge a sometimes impersonal, pernicious, and apathethic clergy as to how grief ministry is provided. The book also provides several examples of outstanding clergy care and pastoral support during times of mourning. The second part of the book contains a few humorous thoughts on several practical issues that he has encountered. The book concludes with thoughts about the nomadic and traveling lifestyle that he and his wife have enjoyed for the last six years.

Book Help Lord I m Having A Senior Moment

But in every case, we can take them to the Lord who cares for us. This book brings encouragement to people in their golden years. Each of the 90 short pieces contains a note to God about a topic of special interest to seniors, a word from God in Scripture, a prayer and a place for the reader to write his or her note to God.

Book The Wreck Hunter

Download or read book The Wreck Hunter written by Melody Foreman and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A biography of an aviation archaeology pioneer who unearthed World War II plane wrecks and the stories they contained. As long ago as 1961, Terry Parsons, then still in his twenties, began his long search for lost aircraft and memories of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. What he discovered over the decades that followed went far beyond the tangled wreckage of military aircraft, both fighters and bombers. For with each of the thousands of RAF and Luftwaffe artifacts he unearthed came life stories of the valiant and the brave, the living and the dead. Among the items he has recovered from the many wreck sites were a mud-cloaked control column from a Spitfire with its gun button still switched to firing mode, a piece of Dornier Do 17 fuselage bearing the fatal bullet holes which led to its crash in southeast England, a pilot’s waistcoat once used to stop the drafts and rattles in a Hurricane cockpit, blood-stained maps from a Luftwaffe bomber, and a buckled tail fin from a Me 110 bearing the unmistakable symbol of the swastika. Now in this biography, created from Terry’s original notes and photographs stretching back almost seventy years, we learn not only about the historical significance of Terry’s story as a wreck-hunter but also the importance of remembering the lives of the men who fought in the skies above Britain in World War II. Indeed, this book shows us how one man’s commitment to aviation archaeology ultimately serves as a tribute to thousands of young souls both lost and found in the Battle of Britain and the Blitz.
