Book Particle Physics in the New Millennium

Download or read book Particle Physics in the New Millennium written by Josip Trampetic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traditional purpose of the Adriatic Meeting is to present most advanced scienti?c research conducted by the lecturers who take part in the development of their ?elds and, in addition, to provide a school-like atmosphere for young scientists. Dubrovnik, as a geographical centre of this region of Europe, provided a most adequate location for this conference. Having very agreeable surroundings, the conference site nevertheless gave a focus for very strong scienti?c interaction. The subjects chosen for the 8th meeting, in September 2001, were gauge theories, particle phenomenology, string theories and cosmology. We were able to bring together a very good cross section of outstanding scientists who gave extraorinarily good presentations. Certainely one reason for this success is that most of us feel obliged to help the scienti?c life in South East Europe return to its former level. However, there are very exciting new scienti?c developments as well. Part of the meeting was dominated by neutrino physics which has just seen exciting progress by establishing neutrino masses experimentally. This was d- cussed within neutrino masses and grand uni?ed theories (GUTs). General - pects of neutrino physics and CP violation, neutrino mixing and the bayron asymmetry were presented along the same lines. On the theoretical side the idea of the construction of gauge theories on non-commutative spaces and their phenomenological implications is accepted worldwide within the particle physics community.

Book B Decays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sheldon Stone
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9789810218362
  • Pages : 676 pages

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book 16th Conference on Flavor Physics and CP Violation

Download or read book 16th Conference on Flavor Physics and CP Violation written by Anjan Giri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the proceedings of FPCP 2018, this book reviews the status quo of flavor physics and discusses the latest findings in this exciting area. Flavor physics has been instrumental in the formulation and understanding of the standard model, and it is possible that the direction of new physics will be significantly influenced by flavor sector, also known as the intensity frontier, making it possible to indirectly test the existence of new physics up to a very high scale, beyond that of the energy frontier scale accessible at the LHC. The book is intended for academics around the globe involved in particle physics research, professionals associated with the related technologies and those who are interested in learning about the future of physics and its prospects and directions.

Book Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Tony M. Liss and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2006-12-13 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a conference that explores areas of common interest between nuclear physicists, high energy (particle) physicists, and astrophysicists. These areas range from studies of the strong interactions that bind the nuclei together, to physics of the very early Universe. They include such topics as the detailed behavior of neutrinos and searches for "new physics", that is phenomena that cannot be accounted for by our current theories.

Book Neutrinos Flavor Physics and Precision Cosmology

Download or read book Neutrinos Flavor Physics and Precision Cosmology written by José F. Nieves and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2003-11-06 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three of the most exciting areas of current fundamental research in physics are neutrino physics, flavor physics, and precision cosmology. Despite the remarkable success of the Standard Model of the electromagnetic and weak interactions on many fronts, there remain many unanswered questions related to important experimental observations in the areas mentioned. Following the trend of the previous workshops, the focus on this one is also the presentation of the current status of the main neutrino mass experiments, the future experimental projects related to them, as well as reviews of the theoretical and phenomenological ideas related to the question of neutrino masses, CP violation, and related topics in cosmology, such as the origin of the dark matter and dark energy, and the inflationary theory of the early universe.

Book Particle Physics Reference Library

Book Kaon Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jonathan L. Rosner
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2001-01-15
  • ISBN : 9780226902289
  • Pages : 654 pages

Download or read book Kaon Physics written by Jonathan L. Rosner and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2001-01-15 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1947, the first of what have come to be known as "strange particles" were detected. As the number and variety of these particles proliferated, physicists began to try to make sense of them. Some seemed to have masses about 900 times that of the electron, and existed in both charged and neutral varieties. These particles are now called kaons (or K mesons), and they have become the subject of some of the most exciting research in particle physics. Kaon Physics at the Turn of the Millennium presents cutting-edge papers by leading theorists and experimentalists that synthesize the current state of the field and suggest promising new directions for the future study of kaons. Topics covered include the history of kaon physics, direct CP violation in kaon decays, time reversal violation, CPT studies, theoretical aspects of kaon physics, rare kaon decays, hyperon physics, charm: CP violation and mixing, the physics of B mesons, and future opportunities for kaon physics in the twenty-first century.
