Book Black Girl In Love with Herself

Download or read book Black Girl In Love with Herself written by Trey Anthony and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2021-01-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speaker, writer, and producer Trey Anthony breaks it down, giving black women a relatable voice and personalized "keeping it real" to-do list on how to practice self-love and self-care. Therapy is not just for white women-no matter what your momma told you! After a lifetime of never truly relating to the personal development experts because of the color of her skin, Trey Anthony has written the book she needed to read as a black woman trying to navigate a world filled with unique challenges that often acts like she doesn't exist. On the outside Trey Anthony was the overachieving, reliable, and strong black woman she was raised to be, but on the inside the pressure of sacrificing her own needs to please others was building. When her grandmother and mother raised her strong, they also unknowingly taught her that self-love and expressing emotions were weak, creating an unhealthy dynamic that had Trey facing burnout and rock bottom. In Black Girl in Love (with Herself), Trey breaks down the lessons and tools that she used to heal her life, including how to: • Set clear and healthy boundaries-even with the people who raised you • Quit being the family ATM • Sort out who is a real friend, and who is just there for parties and gossip • Confront microaggressions at work without missing a beat • Forget who black women are "supposed" to be And fall in love with yourself!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely collection of deeply personal, uplifting, and powerful essays that celebrate the redemptive strength of Black joy--in the vein of Black Girls Rock, You Are Your Best Thing, and I Really Needed This Today. When Tracey M. Lewis-Giggetts wrote an essay on Black joy for The Washington Post, she had no idea just how deeply it would resonate. But the outpouring of responses affirmed her own lived experience: that Black joy is not just a weapon of resistance, it is a tool for resilience. With this book, Tracey aims to gift her community with a collection of lyrical essays about the way joy has evolved, even in the midst of trauma, in her own life. Detailing these instances of joy in the context of Black culture allows us to recognize the power of Black joy as a resource to draw upon, and to challenge the one-note narratives of Black life as solely comprised of trauma and hardship. Black Joy is a collection that will recharge you. It is the kind of book that is passed between friends and offers both challenge and comfort at the end of a long day. It is an answer for anyone who needs confirmation that they are not alone and a brave place to quiet their mind and heal their soul.

"Light Is The New Black is an inspiring book with a message that is so needed right now. Rebecca courageously guides us to turn our lights on and follow the daily calls of our soul so we can all light up the world with our authentic spirit.” – Sonia Choquette, bestselling author of The Answer is Simple ANSWER THE CALL OF YOUR SOUL AND WORK YOUR LIGHT Your inner light is your soul and it is guiding you every moment of every day. Light Is the New Black is for those who agreed to be here at this time in history to answer the call of their soul and work their light. Rebecca Campbell had her first awakening when she was a teenager, but without anyone to guide her, she ignored her soul's callings and dimmed her light in order to fit in. Then, just before her 30th birthday, the life she had so consciously created began to crumble around her. It was as if the Universe had turned off all the lights, so she had no choice but to rediscover her own. In this inspirational book, Rebecca shares her own healing journey, alongside practical tools to help you reconnect with the core of your being, and channelled messages from the Universe. Once you rediscover what you already know at soul level, you can create a life that is in divine alignment, discover your soul gifts, and offer the world something that only you can give. “When I first woke up to the callings of my soul, I lacked the courage, confidence, inner support, and practical tools not just to hear the callings of my soul, but to let them truly lead my life. There were pieces missing, a journey needed to be taken. I called upon the Universe and spiritual teachers to support me. This book is the result of that journey. You can read it in one sitting, one chapter a day, or pick a page at random for an instant hit of guidance. Throughout you will find ‘Work Your Light’ exercises, mantras, and affirmations. I created these with the intention of guiding you not only to hear the callings of your soul, but to act on them too... I pray that you discover the authentic gift to the world that you already are and choose to serve the world by being You. Follow what lights you up and you will light up the world. So much love, Rebecca x

Book African American Healthy Self Esteem

Download or read book African American Healthy Self Esteem written by Ramone Smith and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-31 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I remember it like it was yesterday at three years old watching the Brady Bunch and how stable that white family appeared to be. They lived in a big house, had both parents together, and seem to have enough resources to abundantly accommodate every family member. Mentally I contrasted this with my reality of our small apartment consistent instability and of course a prominent family member missing. I remember saying to my brother Glen, I wish I were White. I did not realize it at the time but my self -esteem was taking a deep plunge that would continue in a downward spiral through out most of my life. My story is not unique. In fact, unfortunately it is almost the norm for a large percentage of blacks born in urban neighborhoods of America. As a result, many of us grow up confused, afraid and uncertain about our abilities partly because our families are fragmented and we havent been taught the right tools we need to navigate our lives in a sometimes hostile environment. Subsequently we become adults and continuously make bad choices that have negative consequences that ultimately dictate the direction of our lives. All too often they have tragic outcomes. I was fortunate. Older positive black people always seemed to take a liking to me and offered advice and guidance. Perhaps I was actively looking for a father figure on some sub conscience level and was not aware of it on my mental surface. By the time I was seventeen, I had committed several petty crimes for money. One night I was arrested for disorderly conduct and was sentenced to probation for a year. My probation officer was a Black man named Stephen Chandler and he asked me two questions: was I still in school, and did I have any children. At the time I was in school but was failing miserably. Also, I was fortunate enough not to have been teenage father. Mr. Chandler simply responded, There is still hope for you. It was not easy, but I change my life and subsequently achieved several accomplishments including a Masters degree in Political Science from Long Island University. However, despite all of my apparent success I continued to suffer from low self-esteem. I thought that my academic success would eradicate that feeling of ineptness. Nonetheless, it continued indefinitely through out my life. Finally, after a period of uncertainty with my employment status and direction with my life, I bought a book on how to enhance self-esteem. I was depressed and I thought it might offer something I did not already know. The book had a strong impact on me and over time I gradually improved my self-esteem. The book explained that the concept of self-esteem is a learned behavior and our lifes experiences play a significant role in its health. Also, it maintained that in order to increase self-esteem, we must be willing to do the internal work and sometimes this process can be painful. In some cases this may include therapy and counseling.
